What does it matter when he used?  Are you allowed to use at a time when you won't get caught?

That to me indicates a desire to sweep it under the rug.  The Woods/Galea connection is too bizarre for people to ignore, and Woods' initial comments were later changed.  And Woods is no longer a believable source, anyway.

If Pablo Escobar came over to my house with two suitcases and left with money, and later someone questioned me about this, how believable would it be for me to say, "Oh, I merely bought suitcases from him instead of at a store because I heard he had really good suitcases."  Just because someone comes up with a cock****-and-bull story doesn't mean I have to believe it, especially when the person telling the tale pulled one of the biggest PR scams in history.
