Roger Staubach: Tony Romo isn't the problem

Roger Staubach stands firm in his belief that the Cowboys have a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback.

“We have the quarterback that can do it in Tony Romo,” Staubach said during a Monday appearance on ESPN Radio’s “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd.

PODCAST Roger Staubach says NFL teams need a great quarterback and coach and he believes the Cowboys have those things in Tony Romo and Jason Garrett.

Listen Staubach, who won two Super Bowls with the Cowboys in the 1970s, was asked whether he believes the Romo’s heavily scrutinized lack of postseason success affects the Cowboys’ current franchise quarterback.

“Tony’s a fierce competitor, but as a player, he’s done extremely well,” Staubach said. “It has to be a factor because you want to win, you want to get to the playoffs and you want to do everything you can to get to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl. It’s a team effort, though. I was very fortunate. We had two different kind of teams when we won the Super Bowls that we won, but we had strong defenses and good offenses.

“I think Tony definitely is more of the solution. He’s not the problem at all. He’s more of the solution. Part of the solution has to be on defense. That was an issue for the Cowboys this year, but you’re a game or two away. Look at the Giants.”

And finally;

I guess it doesn't much matter what Roger Staubach's opinion is does it?
Jerry Jones' opinion is "the difference between the Giants and the Cowboys is Eli Manning",........RIGHT!!!!!!

So if you were Romo what would you do?

Listen to the legend,......or the guy writing out the balance of that 64 million dollar payday?

Oh really???  The opinion of the greatest QB in Cowboys history doesn't matter, but according to you, the opinions of  "Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Deon Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Mariucci, and Mike Ditka, were THE GOSPEL!

Isn't it hilarious that Blu-Tool wants to post Deion Sanders criticisms of Tony Romo as gospel, but when someone else just as highly regarded says something positive about Romo, he'll just pretend that it doesn't hold weight.

What a hypocritical child.

If I was Romo and I had to listen to someone's opinion on my level of playing ability and the two evaluators were Jerry Jones and Roger Staubach, I would takes Roger Staubach's opinion more seriously than Jerry Jones.  Roger Staubach Played the position, Won 2 Super Bowl Championships playing the QB Position, Was a MVP at the QB Position, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame as a QB.  Jerry Jones doesn't know "Jack Shit****" about evaluating talent because if he did the Cowboys wouldn't have went 15 years without a playoff victory.  You can't blame Romo for that because he wasn't around.  The thing that Jerry Jones knows to do best is sign checks and make money.  "YOU DUMB ASS " !!!!

Call me back when the Cowboys can get an offensive line and a defense.  Not one year has Romo had both of those things, including 2007.

You can rant and cry all you want nobody gives a damn what Staubach said and it doesn't change the facts.

Until Tony Romo actually gets in and wins a Super Bowl what Staubach said (for the second time now whenever Romo's ability comes into question) don't mean ****.

He said the same **** the last time Romo's ability came into question.  It seems like somebody always has to run to this guys rescue because he can't handle his own press about the concerns with his ability to get it done.  Eli's doing it for the second time now and Tony Romo your hero is a no show AGAIN after NINE years in the league.

If you want to keep making excuses for him and blaming everbody else you do that and remain the chosen few who refuse to acknowledge the facts and the truth.  But the list of doubters grows longer with every season he's a bust and all that's going to happen is he's going to leave here an abject failure and you have no facts to prove that ship isn't going to stop sinking anytime soon.

The team is going through it's second or third rebuild/transition depending on how you look at since he's been here (It's happening so often I'm losing count on how many times certain positions are being retro-fitted over and over), and he has remained the constant throughout.

You don't build teams around average players because all you're gonna get is an average team that shows up, gets beat, and goes home.  you have to stock the entire depth chart with quality from top to bottom and when certain players aren't doing what they need to to get in the playoffs and win, you get rid of them.  you don't keep them because they make great stats and then fail in the post season or at game sixteen.

Let that guy be a stats monster somewhere else,........you want winners not stats legends who couldn't close the deal.  Unfortunatley for you and a host of others Romo is just that,.......a stats monster.
When he starts being a post season winner you let me know,.....save the stats for PS3.

Once again Blu Tool, you just don't get it! Football is a TEAM GAME!!! Romo cannot do it by himself. you just admitted that we are in Re-build mode and you expect Romo to get us to the Big Show?? You're and IDIOT!!!

I will say it again. By your assanine logic, Dan Marino was a mediocre QB, because he never "GOT IT DONE"
He was just a stat monger and if you had your way, you would have dumped him halfway through his
HALL OF FAME CAREER!!!

Go away, troll. The gizzz that comes out of your mouth is tired and smells funny!!

Get lost, you infantile hypocrite.

YOU said Romo was definitely "a top 10 QB" -- that's not average, you nitwit.

Oline78,

Eli Manning is in the Super Bowl for the second time,...Tony Romo has never been,......I'm sorry I must've missed Mr. Staubach's point about Super Bowl quality what was it again?  LMAO

Nuff said,

The Giants have a better team than Dallas does.....it isn't rocket science.  The Giants pass rush has more to do with the Giants being there than the play of Eli does.

Trublu....

You really need to analyze things better......2 things that Eli Manning has Romo doesn't.....1.) a defensive front seven (pass rush group) that is eons ahead of our...they are good accross the board...we aren't.... we have two guys that all....their ability to get to the QB basically negates the problems they have in the defensive backfield and makes their dbackS look much better than they are...2.) the NYG oline although old is better than ours...completely accross the board......and lastly a couple of other things...our defense gives up 27 to 28 points a game.....you can't win consistantly enough with that stat period!!!....and also throw in the fact their coaching staff right now is better than ours.....thats why a team as bad as the Giants are and with a 9-7 record can still get to the superbowl....in addition our schedule was easier this year we being at 8-8 was pure luck......the giants had GB and NO on their schedule....we play those teams we are 6-10 at best not 8-8...this team is not a good football team and its due to personnel issues and ROMO ISN'T IT....HE IS NO WHERE NEAR THE PROBLEM WITH THIS TEAM....he is a top 5-6 QB in this league

So tell me...............

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???????????????????/ JEEEEZZZZZZZUSSSSSS THIS ROMO BASHING TYRATE OF YOUR YOURS HAS GOT TO STOP ITS JUST PURE STUPIDITY!!!!  i can understand you picking apart the defense or the oline play........but ROMO's?????  you have a long long list of players to bash before you ever get to Tony Romo....

I love how guys like Witten and Ware are praised for individual accolades but Romo gets bashed for the team's lack of success.  If you want to blame Romo, then share the hate with the rest of the team.
