The Greatest Show on Grass WMPO

January 30, 2012 9:28 pm

Welcome to the Greastest Show on Grass the Waste Management Phoenix Open.  Not to often that a pro gets to hit a golf ball in front of 30,000 crazies but that's what you get on the par 3 16th at the TPC of Scottsdale. Make the green and get cheered miss and get booed but make an ace and the place goes nuts. Plain and simple the 16th is one on going party where the your shot makes you the hero of the crowd or the goat of the masses. So who will join the party and be the hero of the Greastest Show on Grass and win this weeks Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Dutch,  Thanks again for these great intros for each tourney!

If you are a golf enthusiast like I am, and haven't experienced the 16th, you have missed one of the most exciting adventures at a PGA tourney, like no other.  In '09, I was there!  ( So was the Super Bowl!!) Cardinal logos were everywhere and when a player came through the tunnel waving a Cardinal logo, there were ROARS.  There were Roars and Boos galore for everything and anything.  It was fun to see how each players reacted.  All were right with the spirit of the atmosphere.  They seemed to love it just like the fans did.  If you haven't been, it is a MUST!

Got there every early, got a good seat and stayed all day.  If you left, you lost your seat.  Fans were waiting in line all day for a chance to get in as others left.  Of course, had to tolerate some out of hand drunks, but for the most part, they had their beer and respected others.  The wave went around the stadium continually.  The VIP section wouldn't always WAVE and got boos from the rest.  Fun day!

Well, it's THAT time of year, again  -  The GSOG.!!

The University of Phoenix enrollment is approximately 300,00 students; which will probably all be attending the GSOG at some time during this weekend  -  mostly at the 16th hole.!!  For the life of me, I can't figure-out why the sponsors would ever hold a tournamment with that many collge students attending  -AND-   NOT have any waste containers.

That's right, NO waste containers will be at the tournament this year.  If Waste Management pulls this off, I'll be surprised.

“There’s going to be no waste bins. It’s recycling or compost, and in order to do this we had to educate our vendors and educate our patrons as well to live a greener life. We’ve always called our show the ‘greatest show on grass,’ now we call ourselves the ‘greenest show on grass.’”

Somehow, I just can't grasp this concept.  Additionally, they're allowing cell phones at the tournament.  Let's see (1) colege students, (2) no waste Bins, (3) cell phones.  This has disaster written all over it.

As for the golf, this isn't really golf.  With all those drunk college students, this event should appear as an event during the "silly season".

This should be interesting . . .  I don't think picks will be worth much for this one.

I discovered great picks written in yellow snow on my front yard.  Temperature went up to 48 degrees while I was looking for a pen.

Sorry about that Kinik, but, I had to expel all that Diet Mt. Dew somewhere and I was thinkin' of my picks at the time.  Strangely enough I write cursive better that way than I do by using a pen.

Here's what it said:

Villegas/J.B. Holmes

M. Wilson/O'Hern
Fowler/Poulter

Laird/J. Wagner

Just watched Jonathan Byrd fix a ball mark on the 16th at the WM tournament by "pulling up" on the turf; c'mon man!  Learn how to fix a ball mark correctly!

Bad new, the Express only started one of them!
