I don't expect to lose this game, but this is the classic look ahead game. So with that being said, you never know what to think going into a game like this. Truely think we win my double digits and have an easy one, but most of the time in games like this we find ourselves in a tussle for most of the game. These are the hardest game for players to play in because they are already looking ahead some for Saturday's big game. I am sure they have even practiced some getting ready for Mizzou. So as long as we win, I don't care in what fashion.
This is kind of like an exhibition game in my opinion. You know, the kind of game they should be able to sleep walk to a victory but use as an opportunity to tighten things up and get crisper on execution. God knows they need it before Saturday. These last few games have been hard to watch.
I think way to often we as fans are looking at style points more than just winning the games on the schedule. I get caught up in wanting to see us win in blow out fashion, and disappointed when we eek one out. This is a different team this year, and we wont b e just just blazing past most teams this year whether at home or on the road. Simple fact.
We don't have the fire power to just kill people for the whole game. Fran Frashilla was right the other day when he said that all home teams needed were about a 2 or 3 minute spurt to capture a game. That is what KU has done to opponents for decades at home. THats what cost us the game in AMes Saturday. They had a nice 3 minute spurt and got ahead by 6 and we couldn't catch up. If not for that spurt, then we stayin with in 2 or 3 points and do more than likely win the game. But during that spurt by Iowa St, we played bad ball during the same time frame.
So like I said, a win is a win right now. Thats what is most important.
It IS important for us to show better execution. KU needs to stop being OK with eeking out victories with big chunks of crappy play and start fine tuning the machine. We're only about 6 weeks from tourney time, so there isn't loads of games left to get their act together.
Holtius said it best, Tyshawn is a little out of sync. I think that is a good thing because he wasn't going to play like an NBA all star every night out for the rest of the season and this team needs to respond when is is off his game. Right now it is a little sloppy but Releford is certainly stepping up his game. We still need to make a more concerted effort to feed TRob the ball in the half court.
