SEC offical

i have a question. i am sure someone has already ask this before but why do have a auburn player getting laid out by ohio state player on that sig??
I just like big hits.. plus contrary to my screenname, I am not that much of a SEC homer (although I will admit I find myself defending the SEC pretty often in the last few years because of the hate on these boards).

To give you my background... I picked my screenname back in 2006 when I was officiating for the SEC in a sport on the side from my corporate gig.  So the screenname was simply a reflection on my employment... not my homerism for the SEC (and back then the boards were a lot more sparse and lacked the conference arguments).   When you have a few minutes to pick a screenname.. you never realized how things would change over the next 6 years and how that choice could end up causing you agnst :)

Grew up in B'ham, AL has a huge Bama fan but my family was all Tenn alumni.  Recruited to a prep-school in CT my SR. year.  I ended up playingball at U of Hartford when I left high school.  Had the option to go back to AL and play for UAB and coach Bartow at the time in the Sun Belt.  Broke my ankle bad before my freshman season started... transfered to Florida since I knew the coach their at the time and thought about trying to walk on, but my ankle prohibited me from playing full-time.  I ended up practicing a lot with that team that went to the final four.  Graduated with a finance degree.. but had a love of science, so I went to MIT for another undergrad degree in engineering.  Spent a year at RPI in upstate NY during my MIT years...after working, my company paid for my MBA from Kellogg (Northwestern)...

My only point is:  I have a love for sports.. and obvioulsy have a connection to multiple conferences.  Auburn seems to beat Florida pretty often in the 90's... so I have always had a dislike for them.  Add the Cam Newton fiasco, and that was the cherry on the cake.  The last game I attended in the swamp was when Nix threw the ball to Sanders in the closing seconds to knock the Gators out of the NC hunt if that tells you how old I am.

So my avatar... it was one of the best hits ever... and nobody got hurt so I didn't fell bad posting it (well, some egos got hurt :).

Unbelievable! A classy SEC fan? I can't believe it- there is a God!
You know what it is... I like forums but these have been taken over by trolls... and even good posters find themselves getting invovled in the trolling because as soon as we find someone posting bad logic, we jump on them ... next thing you know we are involved.

So, lately... instead of getting involved in general threads and sucked into the hate, I either (a) create my own threads or (b) follow a select group of posters I have favorited... as usually if you stick with them, they find the higher quality threads.

The B1G coaches that have complained remind me of a funny analogy...

Them complaining about Meyer is equivalent to the bouncer asking you to remove your baseball cap when walking into a strip club and teling you, "have some respect for the girls..."

i will say this i couldn't stand meyer back when he was from BG, utah, and florida. i love what he has done and will do for ohio state. do i think some of the ohio state fans complained about his style?? YES.    i just see college football heading in a ugly direction when it comes to recruiting. what happened when kids would just announce where they were going with out all the cameras and glamour. espn keeps putting it out there and the fans continue to feed into it.

As a Bama fan and SEC supporter, I think Meyer is doing his job.  If other Big-10 coaches don't like it, they should quit whining and get off their lazy @$$es and be thankful that they finally have a coach in their conference who will finally raise their level of play.  Let's stop pretending that ethics and academics actually matter in big time college football and get to the bottom line....MONEY.  College recruiting is cut throat because any team hoping to contend for a major conference or national title must have stud horses in the race.  You may hear from hack sports columnists that top talent doesn't mean winning titles, but if anyone takes the tme to research it, they'll find that most teams who won national titles (mythical or not...they usually kicked ass) had the best athletes.  Stereotyping Southerners as ignorant hillbillies only proves the ignorance of those who have never lived there. My wife is from Michigan, and there are more "rednecks"up there than I've ever seen in Alabama.  My mother and father respectively have degrees from Auburn and William & Mary.  I attended Alabama, but eventually received my degree from Old Dominion University.  The only person from my wife's family to obtain a college degree was her sister (out of six kids).  She went to Michigan State, and how she was able to graduate is beyond me because she is still as ignorant as a box of rocks, and she wasn't even on an athletic scholarship.

Meyer didn't leave the SEC on his own terms.  He "retired", "un-retired", and "retited " again because he knew Florida's reign as top dog in the SEC was over when Nick Saban arrived at Alabama.  Love him or hate him, when AD Mal Moore handed the "keys to the kingdom" with no restraints and absolute power to Saban over the Bama football program, everyone in the SEC knew what was coming including Meyer.  Les Miles and Gene Chizick were also starting to beat up on Meyer, but Saban drove the nails in his coffin.  Is Meyer a good coach and recruiter?  You're damn right he is, and despite NCAA sanctions, he already has other coaches in the Big-10 running scared and making BS accusations against him.  Hate on the SEC all you want to, but every school in the Big-10 should be thankful they finally have a former SEC coach to "raise the bar" and eventually make  the whole conference more competetive.

There are so many great sec fans its not even funny. Don't go by these forums because this forum is nothing but 90% trolls. I agree with you that sec official is a great fan and person but most of these sec fans you hate are also great people. It's a troll eat troll world and admitting any fault on these forums is a weakness and It gets sickening seeing all the sec bashing that there's retaliation and vice versa from your side. Immsomsick of the sec bashing that it only takes a bad timing and a post from someone and I will go off. I've never once got mad talking about anything online in my life before Except these forums where there's no respect given and it seem you are your epeen in real life for some reason.

I for one was a Meyer Naysay because of the arrests.  As far as "ethics" in recruiting I don't think theres a way to really violate that to a definition.  Many coaches past and present, have said recruiting is recruiting until they sign the letter of intent.  Now I know why at UF he received a lot of flack because of him pitching to verbally committed recruits, but there is no violation to that I believe.

With that said, I'm wondering if these people opposed to that would do the or say the samething if it was them swaying a recruit to their institution?  Just my opinion.

Ok, some of the coaches in the conference are complaining about Meyer's recruting tactics calling him "unethical" and "illegal."

When he was at Florida, OSU fans were pretty vocal on how much they hated Meyer and constantly ragged on his recruiting tactics, how many players were arrested, etc..

So, now that he is your coach, I really want to know... how do you feel about all this?

SEC official,

Well done on the thread.

I'd agree most of the beef with OSU fans were the arrests and the way the recruiting process was told in regards to Shariff Floyd and the fictional story about Meyer having a dream of him playing on the team. Not to mention the thrashing he gave us in '06 NCG...

No fan is going to be happy when another coach beats you in a recruiting battle. However, I dare counter that most OSU fans were not as critical of Meyer as Wisconsin, Michigan, and the Michigan state fans have been in the past two months. Just look at this thread to see the proof.

As far as my thoughts (because I can't be responsible for other fans thoughts and opinions), I can't see the amount of arrests being allowed on this campus. Not that Meyer can be responsible for what the kids do, just the punishment... We're under a big microscope right now. I don't think he has the leverage to get away with it. I think the recruiting is all a part of the game. The game is changing with regards to recruiting, and we are only hearing part of it. Most people, the part they want to hear the helps fill their own bias on the matter.

As far as Wisconsin's coach, he's flipped a few recruits from other schools (rutgers this year). To think Urban wouldn't call a kid from Ohio, one that OSU was his favorite school and a huge position of need, to see if he wasn't at least interested in speaking to him is beyond childish. Not to mention a recruit from OSU this year stated publically that he was contacted twice by the Wisconsin staff after he committed to OSU in the summer. He mentioned the negative comments Beilema made about OSU in that statement as well. Beilema looks like a complete baffoon right now.

As far as Michigan State, Pittman called Meyer. Dantonio hosted the same Wisconsin committed lineman that Beilema is crying over after Ohio State did. Let alone if you ever read up on Dantonio's own comments when he took over at Cincinnati. In short, Dantonio made a mistake and is getting called out for it.

It's kinda comical to see some of these Michigan fans continually attack Urban. I guess they don't see the picture they paint of their own true feelings and the fear they show... Meyer has shelled Hoke in recruiting and the tail of the tape after he was hired should provide a very clear picture as to what is going on in this game.

In short, he's changing the game in the Big ten and people don't like it. Will he be successful, we will see...

My two cents, I was not crazy about the hire.  While at Florida, Meyer brought in a team of thugs and lawbreakers, they won NC's but also lead the country in arrests.  I would rather not have the NC's and have a team with character.  We will wait and see what he brings to OSU.  He has already kicked one kid out of the program, maybe his character selection has improved, it was most definitely poor at UF.

I know of 5 players or more that should have been kicked off the team along with the coach, AD, and of course the commish, for the knowing of cheating,  cover ups, Tats for rings and stinky ugly uni's, vehichles, local women ( fugly and fat ) for pleasure, ect. Nice program. Go Bucks. Money mouth

Buckcardfan,

He has kicked three players off the team who had issues before he was hired. He also pulled a scholarship from a recruit who has a big issues as well. I think it's unfair to paint Urban in as bad of a light as you do, considering the issues this team faces from the previous coaching staff and the fact that Urban has done a very good job (up to this point of his short tenure) of cleaning the house...

Allow him the chance to learn from his mistakes in the past. That's all I'm saying...

(and completely ignore the troll above me, who should be worring about his own team for all the issues they had this year...)

IMO I have no problem with what Urban Meyer is doing; shaking up the culture of OSU football. I think with the year we (Buckeyes) had on and off the field, it will lite a fire under fans, coaches, and players. This is something this program needed for a long time. Go Bucks!!
