2013 recruiting has started

We've got our first recruit, Jake Raulerson of Celina. He's a lineman, 6'5, 250#. He plays both ways, including TE. Texas' Junior Day is Feb 12.<br />

I haven't watched much of Celina in the past couple of years, but it's always been a solid program. Good running game with a strong D, if he plays up front this is a good gain for us, make sure to watch him this year then. Thanks for the update.

Evidently, Mack has changed his tactics on early recruiting. He didn't offer every JD visitor a scholarship. No commits over the weekend. There's a rumor that the Horns will get a verbal sometime this week. The player wants to announce his decision in front of players, family, friends and the media.<br />

We got our 2nd commit, WR Jake Oliver, 6'4" 198#, Fab55 #8. He's an ag legacy who prefers the Horns. The other Jake, who was our first commit, is #4 on the Fab55 list.<br />

#3 committed last night. He is A'Shawn Robinson, #7 on the Fab55. He is 6'5 and 302# and plays both sides of the line. He expects to be a DT for the Horns. We currently have #4, #7 and #8 of the Fab55 in Texas.<br />

Tyrone Swoops, 6'4" 220#, #11 on the Fab55 is UT's 4th commit. He was expected to announce his choice after RSJ. Don't expect much from him until his Junior season, he may even redshirt. We'll have to wait to see if he his the next VY.<br />

oops, not #11, he's #10. So, we've got 4 of the top 10 in the Fab55.<br />

Recruit #5 has committed, Kyle Hicks, 5'10" 190# running back from Arlington Martin. He's the #2 RB on the Fab55, #22 overall.<br />

RSJ, Ricky Seals-Jones, is our latest commit. 6'5" 220# TE, WR #14 on the Fab55, #13 on Rivals National Top 100, #32 on the 247 list.<br />

Very nice haul thus far... low on numbers (it will be a small class due in large part to the 28-recruit haul this year - we only have 12 offers out to date), but very high on quality.  I'd have to say that Durham Smythe is the one I'm watching most closely at this juncture... we badly need a Tight End.


Interesting that a&m has 13 commits thus far (on 60 offers), while oklahoma has 0 (on 68 offers!).  

#7 is in the bag. It's Deoundrei Davis, 6'2" 210# LB, from Cypress Woods. Not on the Fab55, 4* Rivals and lots of fans really like his video highlights.<br />

Jacorey Warrick is #8, Fab55 #21, 6'0", 175# and projects as a slot receiver. 4* Rivals. Hook'em!<br />

The 9th commit is a surprise choice, Daeshon Hall, 6'6" 225#. Seems built more like a basketball player than a DE. Unrated by Rivals, #29 on the Fab55, #6 DE on 247. offered by most of the current B12 schools, TCU and Washington.<br />

10th verbal is in. Kent Perkins, OT 6'6" 285#. Fab55 #2 prospect in Texas. Rivals #25 in the Nation. This one was anticipated and expected. Hook'em!<br />

The 11th 2013 recruit is Naashon Hughes and he will be a greyshirt meaning he will be the #1 2014 recruit. The younger brother of Camrhon Hughes turned down 2013 scholarships from USC east, LSU and Baylor.<br />

Darius James, #6 on the Fab55, committed, #12 for us. He's 6'6" 320# and an OL/C. This gives us 7 of the Top 11, only two left and I doubt we get either. I figure Manning will commit to OU after taking all of his OVs and QB Barrett is not being recruited by UT. I hope he commits to Baylor or stays in the B12. My prediction, Baylor.<br />

I was expecting to have to wait until noon to know if we got our first true TE. Not so, Betlon TE, Durham Smythe 6'5" 230#, picked Texas over Stanford. Fab55 #26, every school in Texas offered him, including  Florida, Miami(FL), Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Mississippi, Ok State and Stanford.<br />

love the addition of this kid at TE. We need more good TE recruits. This is a position that will be key to the Longhorns offensive success and can be a position that we use to put us over the top. The TE is a position that is typically not used as much as they are used in the pros. I think this will change over the next decade and the Longhorns can be one of the programs that benefts.

The Longhorn boards are happy with the hauls at TE, Smythe and RSJ are expected to be part of Harsin's two TE sets. The real question for me, will Harsin be there in 2013?<br />
