Short of a Final Four, winning the conference is much more important.   Kansas and Missouri probably couldn't care less if one loses in the first round and the other in the Sweet Sixteen as compared to who wins the conference title this year.    I'd much rather see Mizzou win the Big 12 than make it to the Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight while Kansas bows out a round or two earlier.
This is where the MU and KU fan bases split.

MU has never been to a Final Four so expectations are lower. A Conference Title would be huge for MU, especially as the Tigers walk out the door to the SEC.

KU on the other hand has 11 Big 12 Titles and 7 Consecutive (yes we do share some of the titles, but I don't believe we share any with MU), and having several National Championship expectations at KU are a lot higher during basketball season. This is why an early loss to Bucknell and Bradley is the only fodder opposing fans can throw.

To MU fans: Would you be okay with losing to Bucknell and Bradley in the 1st rounds if 2 years later you were National Champions? Or would you rather advance to the Sweet 16 and never hoist the title?

Wait let me get this straight, just for clarity.   Kansas choked and only lost by three at Columbia in what is MU's Superbowl, World Series, Stanley Cup, green jacket, and Sprint Cup all rolled into one?   That doesn't say much for your opinion of your Tigers.

In my opinion MU played fantastic and beat a Kansas team that took one shot after another and gamely fought back time and time again.  If I was you I would just enjoy the victory and the fact that your team is very good and has a chance to have a special season.   I certainly would not be knocking the performance of the opponent of what might be the biggest victory for the program in <fill in the blank> years.

I have to first say the picture of Brett running out of the dugout brings back Great Memories from when i was a little kid. Th MU vs ku game shows who wanted this game the most. Maybe it was the call, maybe it was the fact that the game was at MU, I think it was the Fact MU's wanted to win no mater what they had to do to win. This game was won by shooting the three pointer! You can live and die by the three pointer but when they keep going in it makes for a beautiful game and a terrific win over the munchkins from kansas. Looking forward to seeing MU win the Conference Tile their last year in the Toxic 10 that were once 12!!!

Hold on there bucko.  We here in Missouri know what a real Superbowl is.  We have the trophy.  We know what a World Series is.  We have those trophies.  We've been to the Stanley Cup finals on multple occasions.  So no, beating the beakers is neither a SuperBowl, or a World Series Championship, nor even a Stanley Cup.

In case you didn't notice, the team expected to win, and didn't over dramatize the expected victory after it was over.   But the classless redleggers spit out their usual vitriol and excuses.

And oh, btw, we have an actual World Championship in basketball too, which is a huge step up from what the beakers, and anyone else from beakerland will ever have.

Us "beakers" have won the highest prize obtainable so not sure what you mean here.

Kansas City is as you know a border town and it's pro sports are supported by both Missouri and Kansas residents, as you also know.   Besides to claim professional sports accolades in a debate about college sports is, I don't know, pathetic for lack of a better word.   I didn't spout off about what Kansas has done and what Missouri has not.   Your defensiveness is all anyone needs to know about the entire subject.

My point was and remains that it is down right idiotic to trash the performance of the team you just beat in the biggest win for your team.    If you try and argue that beating Kansas isn't the biggest win for this Tiger team then you are just intentionally obtuse or you are clueless about your own program.

Again it was a great performance by MU and your team is very good.

For the record, what "World Championship" in basketball does Missouri have?

Congrats to the 1958 St. Louis Hawks for winning the NBA title. Retard.
Mizzou fans are now so desperate for a one-up that they are counting titles in professional sports. Wow.

Well said Nut.    The sad thing about him bringing up the pro sports argument is that I could easily throw out how embarrassinly futile they have been as well.   The Chiefs haven't won a playoff game since 1993 which is almost unbelievable given the parity in the NFL.   But not to be outdone is the Royals and their now 28th year without a playoff appearance but the sad part is... those are my teams too as you are well aware of.
Is it just me or is the last year of the rivalry bringing out the worst in all of us?

The sad thing about him bringing up the pro sports argument is

This coming from the person who brought the pro sports argument into the discussion.   LOL  What a tool you are.  You bring up pro sports, and then complain that pro sports are being discussed.

Is it just me

Of course it's just you.  You're being a hypocrite.

You might actually suffer some psychosis.   You are the one who brought up pro sports I only responded to that fact.  Surely you  are not referring to the "Superbowl", "World Series" reference.   Surely you are not that simple minded.    Do I really need to explain the concept of figure of speech to you?

Of course it's just you.  You're being a hypocrite.
I wonder in all honesty if you know the definition of the word "hypocrite".

Make your next response count because to anyone reading this silly back and forth it will be the final thing they will get from it.   This, no that is not true, you are beneath me and I have lowered myself enough already.   Enjoy.

Apparently you boys missed the tidal wave of insults hurled at Mizzou, the team, it's coach and Tiger fans after the game last night on the gametracker page.  If you think mine was bad, it was nothing compared to the vitriol spewed at length by the sore losing beakers, complete with, refs bought off, Quin and no final four references.  I don't feel bad about the post at all.  It was in response to their garbage dump after the game.
I admit I missed this post originally when I read through the thread. It helps explain things a little bit. I'd like to point out and explain a couple things about Gametracker posters. No fanbase is without their share of idiots that think it's cute to hurl insults mainly aimed to cause disruptions and trouble.

CENATION was a main culprit after that game. You must learn to consider the source and look the other way! Cena (AKA Goo Goo dolls and many other ID's), is an idiot that no fanbase wants to claim. What he has to say, DOES NOT count! The best thing to do is ignore him.

Let me guess, was anyone named bluegray involved in the gametracker smack talk?
Of course he was! Another guy that rarely has anything nice to say. Not quite in Cena's class, but................and the list could go on and on. Don't judge everyone because of a couple rumdumbs that purposely try to get under your skin on Gametracker. That said  - GO WILDCATS!!

KU fans called the Kansas @ Mizzou game Mizzou's SuperBowl. I would say that calling this "bringing the pro sports argument into the discussion" is a bit of a stretch to say the least. Settle down.

The fact is that the title is there to win for KU and Mizzou. If either team drops an unexpected game, the other will likely take the title. If both teams win every game outside of the Feb 25th rematch, the winner of that game gets the conference title.

I would give KU the slight edge with the rematch being at home and that they have lost to better teams (current Big 12 #1 and #4 vs. MU's losses to Big 12 #5 and #7). With the games that Mizzou has dropped in conference, I see them as slightly more of a risk to drop an unexpected game by the end of the season. EVERY game matters at this point.

Big Monday road game for Kansas tonight @Manhattan. I don't see enough scoring from KSU to keep up the whole game. They will come out strong and push us around and keep it close for a bit, but I look for KU to drop the hammer in the 2nd half and gap it out to a double digit victory.
