The Pac-12 Thread....

October 23, 2012 11:19 pm

I will have to admit VM- Sometimes the coaches can really screw up a game. Usually it is called arrogance. We will do what we want to do.  Well USC did nothing the whole game. Finally the throw a deep post to Smith for around 30 yards. I am screaming throw it again, throw it again. No we went back to what we had been trying to do all game and got intercepted.

VitaMike,

It is a moot point.  USC will not finish the season 12-1.

As long as two of the top 5 and OSU are undefeated, there are no 1-loss winners.

It is true that USC could take down two undefeated, but that would leave K-ST, and either Bama or Forida.

I think we will see two undefeated teams in the NCG this year.

Might as well make my predictions:

Wash. St. @ Stanford  (I still call them the Indians)  Stanford 27 Wazzu 13

Oregon St @ Washington  Probably since I am taking the Beavs, the Huskies will rear their ugly heads.   OSU  27   Wash.  17

UCLA @ Ariz. St.        Since they are at home, I expect an easy win.      ASU  31   UCLA 17

Colorado @ Oregon       The Humane Society should step in and stop this game.     Oregon 61   Colorado 10

USC @ Ariz.    This can be a nasty game.  Do not want AU hanging around, so we need to get them early. USC  27   AU  20

Cal @ Utah    This is my go out on the limb game again.   I'll pick my daughter's school (Utah QB has best game of the year)   Utah 28  Cal 17

ED, it's not hard to imagine that LSU can win out so that leaves ONLY K-State as an undefeated, save the Big East.

Like it or not, SC should they win out, is still in the hunt of the NCG.  Not in control but none the less still in the hunt.

USC will not finish the season 12-1

From your lips to Gods ears ED.

As it sits right now they can finish 10-2 and I'd be happy providing those Bruins win out LOL.

Let me see, since we're talking about winning out the season, the 11-2 Bruins sounds good, sure I'll root for that!

After all, as it sits, UCLA is just 1 of 3 PAC 12 teams with a best case scenario of win out the season and land in the Rose Bowl.

TF, I agree with this who knows what could have happened.

To me it showed up in the NCG vs Texas.  Twice your Trojans go for it on 4th down and  miss the mark, costing them the game IMO.  The first time they had the ball on the TEX 17 and a 4th and 1, a chip shot of a FG gives you a 10 nothing lead, instead your boys turn it over on downs (By the way you lost by 3 points, ouch) The second time, your Trojans had the ball 4th and 2 at the TEX 45 and elect to go for it with just 2.13 left in the game.  To me you play it smart, punt the ball and try to pin them inside the 10 yard line, it's a lot harder to drive the ball 80 or 90 yards in 2 minutes and only two time outs than it is to get that TD starting from mid field.  (They needed 4 to tie)  As it was Texas took all but 19 seconds of those 2 minutes 13 seconds left on the clock to get there from mid field.

Man I love the media and their spin machines. I'm sure only people in UW land and around Oregon read/heard about this, but here you go:

Beating Washington doesn't hinge on outstanding play from Mannion. It doesn't hinge on rust, or a meniscus, or even Riley calling a Mannion-friendly game. Winning will take nothing more than Oregon State showing up in Seattle and pounding the softest, least resilient team in the Pac-12 into total submission.

UW has earned some lumps from the media for sure. I'd point out to this homer media hack that two of the three games he cited were on the road where UW has been simply terrible and the one home game was against USC and Oregon State is no USC. Still UW has to get out of their own heads and stop making so many dumb mistakes and play another real game before they can shut up this kind of article. Will they play more like they did against Stanford? Remains to be seen. If they come out as flat as they have the last three games this guy will be right and the game will be over before the end of the 3rd. Problem in college football is you can never tell when a team on a slide will find a way to rebound. You can bet every kid on the team at least read that quote above and who knows if they will use it as motivation or curl up in the corner in the fetal position and cry.

Bad news for UW is after Oregon State this week they only have one home game left out of their last four games. Good news is all four are against sub .500 teams, still if they don't at least play a tight game they will find it very hard to get the confidence you need to win on the road even against bad teams.

I sure hope Leach is around for a good long time. Seems nearly every day he has something to say that catches a headline or two in our region. Story didn't make it to CBS, but now leach is forbidding his team to use twitter. Not that this is a big deal, but I just love how he talks about the issues.

The decision was made Tuesday, coach Mike Leach said, to ban his players from posting on the social media site effective immediately.

"Quite frankly, if after today you see anything on Twitter from our team," Leach said, "and I don't care if it says, 'I love life,' I would like to see it because I will suspend them."

So, what prompted this decision?

"Because I decided to, that's what prompted that," Leach said.

He seems like that 'funny' uncle in most families only a lot more pissed off most of the time lol.

Saturday Oct 27

Washington State @ Stanford (-24) 48 O/U - WSU can't win this game and it doesn't matter what the final score is.

Oregon State @ Washington (+4) 48 O/U - Last week I picked UW, what a mistake.  I'm tempted to do it again, still unsure about OSU, but I  have a good line on UW at this point.  Beaver bites dog.

UCLA @ Arizona State (-6 1/2) 58 O/U - Going ASU at home over the Bruins.....I can't get beyond the beatdown Cal put on UCLA.  They are closer to the team that USC played last year than they are to the team that beat Nebraska.

Colorado @ Oregon (45 1/2) 68 O/U - Hmm, this is a tough one.  I'm going Oregon, but not by 150 points.  Oregon will win handily, but put everything on the shelf until the following week.

USC @ Arizona (+6 1/2) 66 O/U - The easy pick is to take the Trojans knowing they will win by 17 points.  But, life isn't easy, and Arizona goes totally belly up if they lose this game.  Having been shut out and humiliated by Oregon, and outscored in many a scorefest this season, Rich Rod gets his signature PAC win beating the Boys of Troy 38-35.  (Do not rush to the bank to cash in on this, it could be clouded by wishful thinking.)

CAL @ Utah (-1) 44 O/U - The "Who Cares" bowl.  Utah is bad, Cal is bad.  If someone has to win, I'll go Cal because they have a shell of an offense.  Cal by 1/2 point.

Canzano is a clown and nobody in Oregon reads him or cares what he says.  Oregon State wouldn't think all they had to do is show up and win, that is ridiculous.

showing up in Seattle and pounding the softest, least resilient team in the Pac-12 into total submission.
That is funny though.

Leech is in the news this year for all the wrong reasons.

Public humiliation of your players is not a good approach, should keep it in the closet like he did at TT.

If anyone thinks PAC teams just lay down and let another PAC team walk all over them, they don't know anything about the PAC 12. Even the worst PAC teams will be up for an in-conf game when motivated. This article sounds like a motivational tool to get the players' awakened and ready to upset the visiting Beavers. I'll be off camping again with family, won't be able to keep tabs on the game, and this kind of B S article just makes me more anxious about the Huskies pulling off the upset.

Camping in this weather???  You got stones friend....  You need to take into consideration that I live in W central AZ and the weather here is still very warm in the afternoons. Clear skies predicted, a bit chilly in the early morning, but ideal for hiking and camping. We were going to hike South Mountain in Phx but there's no shade, no water along the trail, and the temp will still be too warm. We're heading up north again to the Cave Creek/Carefree area which will be beautiful about this time of year. GO BEAVS ! ! ! !
