Welker the new Bill Buckner

February 10, 2012 5:28 pm

OK, my period of mourning is over, and I can now comment.

First, with Buckner, like others have said, that loss wasn't Buckner's fault (alone).

Let's not forget Schiraldi, Stanley, Gedman, and McNamara.

Anybody else remember McNamara using rookie Mike Greenwell to pinch hit over Don Baylor, who had 31 HR's, 90+ RBI, and an OBP well over 100 points higher than his BA??

Now, on to the Pats: It was ALL thier faults. I won't say the Giants were clearly the better team (no team is "clearly" better if it comes down to the last play.)

Welker should have caught the ball. one hand on the ball: he SHOULD catch it. TWO hands like Welker?? He had BETTER catch it.

Brady??? Once he got hit by Tuck, you could tell he was hurt, which could explain why his completions almost disappear. But that game-changing safety in the 1st.....I personally didn't think it would be a safety, since he ball was well past he line of scrimmage, BUT if it WAS a safety, then Brady should have known better.

Hernandez and Branch both had key drops.

Belichik had some questionable play calls.

Bernie Pollard, you are now enemy number 1. Gronk was NOT healthy. Had he been as healthy as everyone said he was, noway was a linebacker grabbing an INT from him.

Between the safety and the Tuck sack, Brady played very well, and even after the Tuck sack, he did a good job extending the play.

BJGE seemed pretty solid, and the Pats O-line did a much better job protecting Brady. The defense looked pretty good at times, but they need that play maker in the secondary. (Is Ed Reed a FA???)

As for the Giants, I am not anti-Eli. In fact, I kinda ike the way the guy has handled himself. However, I SWEAR he os one of the luckiest QB's out there.

Props go out to the Giants D-Line. When they couldn't get to Brady, there were getting the hands up and blocking passes. The backfield for the Giants also seemed to do a pretty good job, and once again, the receivers did an excellent job making some circus catches, especially important with Cruz not being the factor he normally was and with Ballard going down with an injury. Also, I forget his name, but the punter did the same thing he did vs the Pats in the regular season: pinned the Pats deep in thier own territory. I think HE should have been the SB MVP.

Giants deserved to win, since they scored more points, but it was one of those games, that if you can think of SO many plays that could have made such drastic differences (safety, fumbles bouncing the Giants way, 2 twelve men on the field calls that BOTH favored the Giants, miracle catches...) so many key plays mean the game was much closer than we probably think.

BTW, No WAY is Welker a new "Buckner".

Boston likes baseball WAY more than football.

A sox win in 86 would have ended a 68 year drought. A Pats in 2011 would have ended a 7 year drought.

....The difference is Buckner played for a team which played the game the way it's supposed to be played.....With integrity.....He did'nt know the ball was coming to him.......Unlike Welker who had probably looked at some tape and knew what to do to score......but he can't catch a ball that's thrown to him passed ten yards down field......He can only do 4 yard ins and outs....one dimensional.....The only peolpe who disagree are the biased pat fans who think Welker is better than Rice was......

If Tim Brown and Cris Carter cannot make the hall then there is noway in hell Wes is making it.....

Welker is part of a company that has been caught cheating.......Loss of draft picks and a half a million dollar fine to the coach in which he probably had to pay for it out of his own money........Does anyone actually think that Kraft paid Bill's fine???

Kraft is a cheap, cheater and the NFL would be better off if Kraft and Bill were out of the picture so the rest of the NFL could go on playing the game the way it's supposed to be played.....

The Pats get no respect outside of thier fandome....And it's much deserved also.....

John Gayboy Musacha,

Your avatar tells it all.  Tony Romo as your quarterback would make me hate to be happy for any other team also.  Your team has made under acheiving an art form.  The future looks totally bleak for your franchise while vegas has already made the Pats the odds on favorites for another super bowl next year.

Remember, no other team in history has made it to the super bowl with the worst defense in the league.  In fact, no team has made it with a bad defense.  What about the Steelers who enter each year with the leagues best D and have not made it in any year where even two of their defensive players are out injured.  Then their is your team, one injury and your team is done.

Sorry, it must be frustrating to know you will most likely have to root against the Pats again next year rather than rooting for your own.  Pretty pathetic.

Attention:  John Musacha is now a Giants or Eagles fan!   There I helped you out a bit.  Everyone deserves to root for a winner!!!!

So who is your team little girl?

I show my colors unlike yourself sissy!!!!

At least my team does'nt cheat unlike the pats.

And my team has been in more, and won more bowls that the Giants or pats.......The Cowboys make the most money out of every team in the NFL!!!!

And getting to the bowl with a horrendous defence is not hard to do, but winning it all is!!!! Even while trying to CHEAT!!!!!!!!

But i already knew that and most other things that you have no clue about......

Time for you to go to bed little one......

What a tough way to end what could be a fabulous career in NE for Welker. The dude is a stud in the role that he plays. He is a HUGE reason why Brady is successful in the passing game. I understand that Brady could have thrown a better ball at a quicker pace, but it STILL hit the guy in the hands. I have never personally been in a situation where everything was on the line, dependant on my performance so I cant quite relate but I can only imagine. Do all Boston-area fans really equate Welker to Buckner? Come on now.

"What a tough way to end what could be a fabulous career in NE for Welker. "

Anybody remember how Asante Samuel's career in New England ended???? With a dropped INT in the Superbowl that would have clinched it.

Didn't Jimmy Johnson admit to doing the same thing that Belichik "did" during the Cowboys glory years in th 90's??

Wasn't Kraft more or less the key to ending the lockout???

If Kraft was out of the picture, the Superbowl might never have been played this year.
