Todd Haley - Offensive Coordinator

Personally I like the move. He's a real peckerhead (first hand experience) so when Ben takes unnecessary sacks he won't be afraid to speak up. He's a proven play-caller, unlike most of the other candidates and he has a Steelers pedigree.

This is actually encouraging and could be the one guy out there who will be an improvement over Bruce Arians.

At least from what I noticed from the Chiefs offense and read about Haley, he is big into the up-tempo and no huddle offenses. This may be a great thing at times for Big Ben as he always wanted to do more of this and tends to excel in those situations.

Looks like a pretty good hire, his one year at OC he got the Cardnials to the Super Bowl, like Big Ben I would have liked Arians back

At Arizona he had a deadly pass attack.  At KC he has a deadly running attack.  He can work both ways.  I like it.  The amount of offense he got from KC with their talent level was impressive, especially last year when he had a healthy RB.

Great higher if he keeps his head on straight, which I'm sure he will if he ever wants another chance. There is really no reason why the offense should have struggled sometimes with the talent level they have and Haley in Arizona always got the most out of what he had, same in KC when they went to the playoffs.

The dude seemed like a real Richardhead sometimes at KC, but I like it. I think he's better suited to be an OC than a HC.
Wasnt his dad a coach for the Steelers back in the day?

Anyone think this could affect Ward staying now since Haley really has no prior loyalties to him?

Yeah, I think his dad was assistant coach and then GM or something of that nature. I think this is a good hire, Ben needs to be challenged a little I think he was getting a little complacent, our offense is too good to settle for 21st in the NFL. I just hope they all learn the offense real fast. Well Ben I know Arians was your friend but this is a business first and foremost, so get over the "retirement" and focus and learn the offense so you can show em how a new offense won't slow the Steelers down.

This won't affect Hines Ward either way. Ward can be the Steelers No. 5 WR if he wants to come back for No. 5 WR money, which probably means the veteran minimum. If Hines is willing to do that, he'll get another year in Pittsburgh. You're not going to find many guys better for the veteran minimum and he is great at mentoring the Young Money Posse.

I think Ward staying has more to do with his contract situation (him taking a paycut) than to an OC cutting him.

I think (hope) he can do well for us...but given the general attitude toward offensive coordinators among this group:

Over/Under on when the first "Fire Haley!" thread appears on the Steelers board:  Week 4

Increase in the number of used Camaros sold in the Pittsburgh area this week:  1

Most likely derogatory nicknames:  Haley's Vomit, Todd Gay-ley, Idiot Boy II, Bruce Haley-ans

Statement that will result in Hoya's death by facepalm:  "Todd Haley passes too much.  Why doesn't he just run the ball like Bruce Arians did?"

Hoya,

You're killing me with this since the dude hasn't even been officially announced yet. Todd Haley better make the Steelers the biggest offensive juggernaut in the league to live up to some of those expectations. Laughing

I think this is a good hire. Haley had a rough go as head coach in Kansas City, but he wasn't a complete flop their either. He's a stronger coordinator right now, but anyone with the fire to be a head coach knows he's got to perform well at this stage to get another shot. I expect that he'll do well. The Steelers have playmakers.

I just hope they can shore up the OLine so those playmakers have the holes/pocket/time to make plays and pick up short yardage gains. Fix that and this offense could be scary good.

Agreed.  Ben Roethlisberger appeared to be too comfortable with Bruce Arians.

This is actually encouraging and could be the one guy out there who will be an improvement over Bruce Arians.

It will be interesting to see how Haley and Arians do in their respective situations.

I think we will get some entertainment out of this hire - he is no shrinking violet. Believe he accused the Chiefs of bugging his phones. Hope that story was false - otherwise tinfoil hat sales may be up in the Burgh.

His father was the Director of Personnel from 1971-1990. He also played for the Steelers in the early 60's.

LOL, I'm liking Hakey's Vomit. Looking forward to his first bad play call. There will be over 65,000 expert offensive coordinators in the stands at the 1st Steeler home game next year.

One other thing ...

Haley started his career as a scout. The Chiefs put together two pretty impressive drafts in '10 and '11. I won't pretend to know how much influence Haley had with Pioli running the show but the coach obviously plays a part in some fashion. He could be a nice addition to the personnel department.
