Who do you want starting for the Redskins in 2012

February 7, 2012 11:13 am

Okay folks,

We've all posted a lot of messages about who we want starting at QB for the Redskins on opening day of 2012. So lets see how a poll comes out.

When deciding who you want to vote for, think about your perfect scenario working out and you get the QB of your choice.

If you choose the Other FA QB or Other Rookie QB options, please post a message with who you'd like to see starting for us.

Thanks!

I want to see a healthy Peyton Manning
no draft pick compensation
RGIII or any other rookie could learn on the bench
Manning meant about 8 wins for the Colts if he could mean 6 for us we make the playoffs

i think the most likely scenario is John Beck

I'd like it to be RGIII but that's not happening.  Matt Flynn is a good possibilty but honestly, a HEALTHY Peyton Manning would be beast.  Unfortunately, it would be suicide for him to join the Redskins considering we play in the division with the most, best pass rushers in the league.

He'll be looking at Jason Babin, Trent Cole, DeMarcus Ware, plus, all 40 guys from the Giants including Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Jason Pierre-Paul, Matthias Kiwanuka, etc....etc...twice a year from behind the O-line that started Casey Rabach for years...when he sucked.  That's 6 games a season...that's ridiculous.

For his sake I hope he doesn't join us even though I'd love to see him play here just for the sake of him having a Redskins jersey.

I know this is about who the startinQB should be but i believe if we were signing a veteran aka Peyton Manning drafting Darron Thomas would be great for the team he is an athletic QB like Shanahan likes and he is a better passer than people give him credit for his numbers in college were exceptional and in a year or two he could be a star for the Redskins

Of course a healthy Peyton Manning would be the best choice but my guess is he ends up in either Miami, or Tennessee. He can either go and crush the Colts twise  year, or go back to where he played College ball and get them a ring. Both places have goos receivers, and the Titans also have an elite RB which Peyton has never had in Indy.  ithink we end op with Grossman, and one of the following Shaun Hill, Jeff Garcia, Chad Henne, or Josh Johnson, and we draft Ossweiller and Corp.

RG III -- we need to draft a QB, a quality starter, and he's our best chance.

Flynn had one good game, but before that game most couldn't name him.  We don't need another team's Kold or Cassel.
Peyton would be exciting, for certain - but we don't have the other players he'd need for success and continued health.
Beck and Grossman had their chances - move on.
Always liked Orton, and he may fit Shanahan's system fairly well.  But we need a young athlete with no baggage.

Okay, I'm really curious. Who is the nutcase who voted for Rex Grossman to start for us next season? LOL

I threw Grossman and Beck on there just for a few more choices. I didn't honestly believe anyone would want either of those piece of crap QB's starting for us again. LOL

LOL. Not sure if maybe they were answering who they thought it would be rather than who they wanted. Or maybe they figure he is the lowest cost alternative while we coach up whoever the draft pick is and just don't want to spend a lot of money on a rental FA. I don't really want to do that either unless you have 0 faith in your draft pick and then why picj him. Not to mention FA comes first so you still won't know what rookies will be available when you draft. Tough situation unless you make the trade to move up soon to insure you don't need to sepen a bunch on FA, otherwise you probably have to do it, and then see what happens to find your backup/future starter in the draft. I don't think I am going to comment on any of this any more until the FA QB's start moving. Unril you see what we do here and at other positions in FA, you really can't figure out a good draft strategy.

Who do you want starting for the Redskins in 2012

I just saw this posted on Rotoworld.

Peyton Manning - QB - Colts

"Everyone" CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman talks to in the NFL believes Peyton Manning will sign with the Redskins if/when he reaches free agency.

"And I mean just about everyone," Freeman emphasized, without claiming inside information. This comes on the heels of a weekend report that two people close to Manning believe it's "very likely" he will end up with the Redskins. We have no doubt the Redskins (and Dolphins) will be hot on Manning's heels. Mike Shanahan can't afford another lost season, and the Skins have room under the cap to sign Manning and add talent on offense. The question is whether Manning's interest dovetails with conventional wisdom in the NFL

It really means nothing because nobody knows what's going to happen to him, but apparently a lot of people believe this.

If he's healthy, I don't mind it so much, but they damn sake better draft a quality rookie QB as well.

If they get Manning, then they better Get Ossweiller in the 3rd or 4th round. He is arguably the Qb in the draft with the most upside, and would benefit from sitting a whole year and even two learning under the most prepared guy in all of football, and maybe in all of pro sports.

If they do get Manning they will need to use the remaining cap money on OL and one #1 type WR. There is a good chance that though healthy, he will not have the armstrength he once had. maybe never again so we need to be prepared to implement the vaunted Mike Shanahan grond game to support Manning. Again we need a team full of OL. We can't fall in love withthe guys we had because they were better than Heyer and Rabach. Some of us might be better than them. The guys we had last year were mostly of backup quality. We could use at least 3 quality OL with one of them being a center. If the top of the draft gets crazy and people jockey to get up and get a QB, we could end up with the one of the top OL, WR, or CB in the entire draft at #6 and needto do so. Of course this is a long way off, and as of right now Peytom Manning is an Indianapolis Colt. I still say the smart money is on him staying there.

No chance Peyton Manning comes to the Redskins.

What would his reason be. They don't have any playmakers, they don't have an O-line to protect him. They don't have a coach or O-coordinator that will let him call his own shots like he did with the Colts and they aren't anywhere close to winning a Super Bowl.

Unless Manning is secretly broke and needs the money badly, he would have no reason to sign here.

Well if this is a "Fantasy" scenerio i think anyone who did not vote for "other rookie qb" would be a FOOL. Andrew Luck is a homerun kind of QB who can single handedly turn a franchise around.

Bringing in a big name like Peyton Manning would mess up the dynamic of our "blue collar, work-hard" attitude on the team.  Not saying that Peyton Manning doesn't work hard because he does, just saying that a big, potential hall of famer player like Manning coming to the Redskins would put all the attention on Manning rather than how hard our young players are working, he would essentially overshadow everything and everyone on our team just like he did in Indy, and I don't want that.  I want a team where everyone plays for each other and holds each other accountable.  The only we are going to do that is go out and draft our QB, we can sign some FA QB as a stop gap every year but as long as we continue to do that we will never be where we want to be.  I am still dead set on us trading whatever draft picks this year and next year we have to ino order to land RGIII, this is really the only scenario I see in this years draft.  I'm already have money set aside to buy my new Nike Robert Griffin III #10 jersey.

thatlsk, i think Manning would come here if his brother wasnt here, however, considering we play Eli twice in one year, forget Peyton, in fact he's off my list on who's coming to QB next year.

Now for me, i want to see RG3 at QB in Washington next year, young, franchise QB that we need.

redskin81, i would take the Titans off the Manning list too. i just cant see the Titans owner saying, get Manning when he has Hasselbeck and Locker as his QBs. one of them is the vet and the other is a young player who has a ton of potential, he's a guy that i really wish we could've had a shot at in the draft last year.

Same here.  They didn't move up to draft Jake Locker in front of us for no reason.  I just saw that Peyton Manning apparently can't throw to his left yet...or maybe never again...so this may all be the typical offseason hype.  RGIII would be our best bet if we can move up to the Vikings spot who I now believe is the only trade possible of happening for the Redskins to get him (unless something crazy happens like a trade to the Browns)...I just can't see the Rams trading down when Matt Kalil is on the board and they need a franchise tackle badly to replace at least one of those injury busts they have starting to protect Sam Bradford.  He could be their next Orlando Pace.

And yeah..who voted for Rex Grossman?!  Probably a Cowboys, Eagles, or Giants troll...or maybe Bnerd.

Jeff Fisher and Mike Shanahan are very close friends and if there's a trade with for the 2nd pick it most likely will be with us.  The tackle from Iowa may potentially be better than Kalil so the Rams win either way if they trade up of that 2nd pick, or they could always take Blackmon.

Who do you want starting for the Redskins in 2012

February 9, 2012 9:07 pm

LOL I am just throwing things out there to see what people say because I find it hilareous that anyone thinks they know where or if Peyton Manning will be playing football. If Peyton Manning is healthy, any team including the Titans led by the great Matt Hassleback would take him in a second. He is not healthy. All reports say that his neck is fine and he has no strength and no feel. He cannot even throw the ball to his left because he can't feel his arm as it crosses over. His nerves are dead. They may regenerate. Some day. But maybe not be fore the end of the summr or this year at all. He is either going to be a Colt or he is going to be throwing passes to his kids because if he is healthy, they will keep him.

For a month or so I was seriously considering how the draft should go etc. But no more. Until FA is over with it is not worth my time to try to figure out. We need to address OL, OL, OL, and WR. If we do that we don't need tp spend 25M on a Peyton Manning at 50%. Depending on what we address in FA maybe its ok to use picks to move up. Right now it is not as we still need all out picks to fill holes in the team. I am not a Griffin fan. He is unproven. He played in a second teir conference and had one really great year. Indianapolis is not drafting him either. They are drafting Luck or trading out of the spot if Peyton makes a miraculous recovery in the next few months. Id he drops to us then you have to take him I guess. If he doesn't and we haven't addressed the starting QB position in FA, then you pick the best of the rest and take him in the second round while filling a need at CB or WR probably with the 6th pick. Or trade back into later in the first, pick up a pick, and draft your guy late in the first to make sure someone doesn't snatch him away like last year.

But until FA is out of the way and you see what your team looks like the day before the draft, it is just speculation and not worth the time.
