It is looking more and more like they will be a member of the Big East 2 seasons from now. Basketball wise, the Big East won't be as glamourous as it was just a couple of years ago, with Pitt and Syracuse going to the ACC. Are you in favor of this move now?

Hell yes!!!!  You give Memphis BCS $$$ and its on in football too.  Memphis is located in a recruiting hot bed, and has done very well without getting the big time money.  We also have some big boosters who help select the new football coach, and are looking for a new AD.......the $ will start coming in.  We have been upgrading over the last 5 years too.

Oh, and the basketball being played is a plus for our fans.  Who would you rather watch.......Rice or Georgetown?

People laugh, but Memphis has the potential to be a sleeping giant in football.  Look at what happened to S. Florida, Louisville, and Cincy and their football programs after they made the jump.

Mikey......go fuck**** yourself and put the term mid major up your azz!

Football (which our is bad, but improving) is the king in college athletics, followed by basketball, but our other teams are very competitive, some nationally ranked, and some winning championships.

Considering where they came from, they have done well.  Is it SEC football, no, but what is?  Florida used to be a doormat in the SEC.  Its all about the money.

Florida sports have exploded as Florida's population has exploded. Memphis is a nice recruiting hub, but Florida is one of the most talent-rich recruiting sites in the country. Memphis could become relevant in the future in football, but they'll have to put a ton of money into it and hire some great coaches. Even Kentucky, who is in the SEC, hasn't been able to be consistently relevant in football.

Let me get this right...BE losing WVU, Pitt and Syracuse.  BE gaining Memphis, SMU, Houston, SDSU, Navy, UCF and Boise State?  BE is going the wrong direction!!!!!!!

While I think this is an improvement for UM football (lets be honest UM football is the worst football program in the country so it couldn't get worse) I'm not sure how much more this helps UM basketball.  This is not the BE of old.  Is Memphis really better being 6th, 7th, or 8th best in a below average BE conference consistently than 1st or 2nd in CUSA.  At least in CUSA they were the big dog and now they're just another team in BE.  Looks to me to be CUSA 2.0

blue......Its all about $, and the tired recruiting line "Mid Major."

jag......everyone knows about Florida's recruiting.  We recruit Florida, West TN, Miss, Louisiana, Georgia, and we just opened a pipeline into Texas.  Florida is one of those schools located in a college town that benefited from the money it received from being in the SEC.  These mid major schools have had to fight for everything, while most schools just collected checks.

You can't compare Memphis to UK.  There is no excuse for UK having a crappy football team except for the fact that no one cares about football in the state of Kentucky......not to mention there is not a lot of talent in Kentucky.

jag.....we have been pumping money into it and we are about to pump a whole lot more.  We just should have started sooner, but our AD was doing whatever Cal wanted and he was winning, therefore we were content.

All of this seems predicated on the BE being a BCS school in the future.

If BE2.0 doesn't get a BCS bid, then is it a step up for Memphis?

I think it's a good move for Memphis at this moment. There doesn't seem to be a lot of other options, and the worst case scenario is being caught in a small conference that is being raided by a bigger conference that is being raided by a super conference. My guess is that the BE2 keeps its BCS bid in the short term.

In the long run, we'll see because in the next five to ten years there's going to be a whole lof of shuffling going on, and I'm betting you'll see teams that left conference A for conference B end up in conference C if not D. Football money just keeps getting bigger and bigger and everyone wants a taste of the action.

And in basketball at least this will revive the Louisville Memphis, Louisville Cincy matchups.

As a BE fan, I must say I'm very disappointed with the addition of Memphis. ECU, Southern Miss, or Temple should've been a perfect choice for the BE. Hell, even SDSU would be a better choice than Memphis despite its far distance from the current BE schools.

Of course you are.  You might win a game against them.  As a basketball school, you want crappy teams?

Well, IMO, I don't think Memphis would be a better choice for the BE but if that's how the BE wanted to do this then I guess I'll have to accept it. Plus, they're good in basketball anyway. Still, the schools I mentioned would've been a better choice anyway.

The BE is a step up from C-USA in money, so in that respect, it's better for Memphis.  Even with the teams leaving the BE, the basketball will still be very good and much better than C-USA.

That said, it's clear the BE is getting weaker in football while the SEC, PAC 12, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC all get stronger, which is all that matters when you're talking about money.

Memphis has got to make a commitment to get better in football if it ever hopes to land in a truly good conference.  Until then, we'll be playing musical chairs as conferences expand, shrink and fade away.  There's no reason Memphis can't compete, it is just cheaper to be a basketball powerhouse, especially when the city and NBA team build a state of the art facility in your backyard and allow you to play games there.  Both Louisville and Cincinatti have the same disadvantages as Memphis, yet they have been able to field very good football teams in the past 5 years.

Well....it is the bball only schools that are killing the Big East as far as being a Football conference.  Kinda of a Duh!  IMO...all the bball only schools need to keep quiet or form a bball only conference.  Kick all the football schools out if you are that confident.

My guess is you need football....then what does that make the bball only schools?
