I don't think Adams would be able to step in and be better than Backus right away. It's Backus' age that's the issue, not his play. He's still playing at a solid level, but for how long? I'd be cool with drafting Adams, but I don't think he'd be the starting left tackle this season. Also, Gosder seemed to really level-out this year at right tackle, so I don't think they'd want to risk moving him to a position that he's never played before.
I agree Konz is the popular pick, but i would rather see Mercilius DE from Illinois, or Adams LT from Ohio State. The reason for Adams is we could start him at LT and move BVackus to RT and then Goster in to Gaurd. I think that would improve the play at 3 OL positions
Sorry, guys. If Martin from Stanford was still available at 23 the Lions would run up to the podium to make the pick

6-3, 270 Trent Cole 5th

Sorry, guys. If Martin from Stanford was still available at 23 the Lions would run up to the podium to make the pick. Talk about a perfect fit at a huge need position. I also think they'd take a shot at Jenkins out of Alabama. I like the help at Center but you can get 2 decent FA centers at reasonable prices this year. shut-down LTs don't come on the market, pure and simple.Mayhew didnt run to the podium to grab the 4th OT in Michael Oher, he grabbed the #1 TE in Brandon Pettigrew. I don't see him taking a tackle in that spot over a #1 center like Konz. Also I don't think you can compare Konz to a "decent" free agent center. He's alot better than that. He steps in and immediately starts and is immediately an upgrade. As far as Martin being a shut down LT...if he was that good would he make it to 23?
Mayhew didnt run to the podium to grab the 4th OT in Michael Oher, he grabbed the #1 TE in Brandon Pettigrew. I don't see him taking a tackle in that spot over a #1 center like Konz.Yuppers, the pattern Mayhew has set is not only BPA but BPA at the posistion for that years draft. Does that make us predictable? I don't know, but Mayhew drafts up and not back. Jahvid, Leshoure. Mayhew desires talent over more picks. That has been his track record. We shall see if it continues. I don't want to be predictable in a draft, but other GMs know that if were picking ahead of them, Mayhew doesn't play games and must give in to get the player they are looking for before MM takes him.
The thing I'm not sure about, though, is whether Mayhew and Schwartz see Center as a position of need. I suspect not. We'll see.The problem I have is certain positions are favored over others. I.E. The best QB in the Draft over the best Center in the Draft. Now their both BPA at their posistions.
