2012 NFL Draft Order

February 12, 2012 12:32 pm

I agree Konz is the popular pick, but i would rather see Mercilius DE from Illinois, or Adams LT from Ohio State.  The reason for Adams is we could start him at LT and move BVackus to RT and then Goster in to Gaurd.  I think that would improve the play at 3 OL positions
I don't think Adams would be able to step in and be better than Backus right away. It's Backus' age that's the issue, not his play. He's still playing at a solid level, but for how long? I'd be cool with drafting Adams, but I don't think he'd be the starting left tackle this season. Also, Gosder seemed to really level-out this year at right tackle, so I don't think they'd want to risk moving him to a position that he's never played before.

Sorry, guys.  If Martin from Stanford was still available at 23 the Lions would run up to the podium to make the pick

Boy, I don't know about Martin, he's known as a stud run-blocker who needs to work on his pass blocking at the NFL level. We're a pass-first and then pass some more kind of team...

He's definitely a good, tough o-lineman though. I'd have absolutely no problem drafting him and plugging him in at RG; he'd be an instant upgrade there, and could be Backus' successor in a couple of years if his pass-blocking develops. And if not, well then at least we still got a good guard out of the deal...

Sorry, guys.  If Martin from Stanford was still available at 23 the Lions would run up to the podium to make the pick. Talk about a perfect fit at a huge need position.  I also think they'd take a shot at Jenkins out of Alabama. I like the help at Center but you can get 2 decent FA centers at reasonable prices this year.  shut-down LTs don't come on the market, pure and simple.
Mayhew didnt run to the podium to grab the 4th OT in Michael Oher, he grabbed the #1 TE in Brandon Pettigrew.  I don't see him taking a tackle in that spot over a #1 center like Konz.    Also I don't think you can compare Konz to a "decent" free agent center.  He's alot better than that. He steps in and immediately starts and is immediately an upgrade.  As far as Martin being a shut down LT...if he was that good would he make it to 23?

Yuppers, the pattern Mayhew has set is not only BPA but BPA at the posistion for that years draft. Does that make us predictable? I don't know, but Mayhew drafts up and not back. Jahvid, Leshoure.  Mayhew desires talent over more picks. That has been his track record. We shall see if it continues. I don't want to be predictable in a draft, but other GMs know that if were picking ahead of them, Mayhew doesn't play games and must give in to get the player they are looking for before MM takes him.

Yep, Muzzer is right on the money.  Mayhew is all about the big picture, and he has been consistent in taking top guys at a position if they play a position of need in the early stages of the draft.  The 4th OT would NOT be consistent with Mayhew's drafting pattern.  The thing I'm not sure about, though, is whether Mayhew and Schwartz see Center as a position of need.  I suspect not.  We'll see.

The problem I have is certain positions are favored over others. I.E. The best QB in the Draft over the best Center in the Draft. Now their both BPA at their posistions.

I'm creating a thread for this, beacuse I think this needs to be addressed.

Nice.  I think he fits better than Burflict who fits better on the Giants.  Both Pats and 49ers probably go WR so he should be there.  Both guys are steals late in the draft.

16. Jets-- Alshon Jeffery WR (South Carolina) The 6'4" Jeffery is just what the Jets anemic passing game needs.
17. Bengals (from Raiders)-- Jenoris Jenkins CB (North Alabama) the bungles have issues at CB with injuries and such.
18. Chargers-- Alfonzo Dennard CB (Nebraska) Chargers secondary was woeful last year
19. Bears-- Jonathan Martin LT (Stanford) Top OL available, top 3 WRs are off the board
20. Titans-- Cordy Glenn G (Georgia) Noone was able to run block for shiit last year
21. Bengals-- Courtney Upshaw OLB (Alabama) The defense for the Bengals gets better through this draft.
22. Browns (from Falcons) -- Kendall Wright WR (Baylor), the Browns are just are desperate for some playmakers
23. Lions-- Peter Konz C (Wisconsin) The Lions get something they haven't had in 10 years..push in the middle.

2012 NFL Draft Order

i think this would be a steal for SF.  I know they have needs at WR or CB, but the value is just too good here.   They couls also go Adams OT from Ohio State.  Anthony Davis struggled at RT this year and Adams could step in and help out.

2012 NFL Draft Order

February 13, 2012 6:18 pm

1. Colts-- Andrew Luck QB (Stanford). Peyton is too big a question mark. They need the future replacement now!
2. Rams-- Justin Blackmon WR (Okie St.) I know most mocks have Kalil here, but Bradford needs his version of CJ.
3. Vikings-- Robert Griffen III QB (Baylor) ** See next post for explanation.
4. Browns-- Trent Richardson RB (Alabama) Best RB to enter since Peterson, this team needs offensive playmakers
5. Buccaneers-- Morris Claiborne CB (LSU) Easy pick. Talib going to jail and barber retiring.
6. Redskins-- Matt Kalil LT (USC) Taking the BPA and protecting whoever they have under center...Flynn or Manning
7. Jaguars-- Riley Reiff LT (Iowa) Pairing Reiff with Eugene Monroe gives the Jags a pair of book-end tackles
8. Panthers-- Michael Floyd WR (ND) Almost all of the mock drafts having them select a DT/DE.  I'm goin with a WR.
9. Dolphins-- Mark Barron S (Alabama) With Reiff and Kalil off the board, the 'Fins pick up their safety.
10. Bills-- Quinton Coples DE (North Carolina) Defense sucks so bad they cant resist the best defensive player.
11. Chiefs-- Ryan Tannehill QB (Texas A&M) They need a Quarterback; their offense is terrible, Matt Cassel won't do.
12. Seahawks-- Devon Still DE/DT (Penn State) Biggest issue lack of pass rush from either interior or exterior D line.
13. Cardinals-- Michael Brockers DT (LSU) Arizona goes BPA and takes a top defensive line prospect.
14. Cowboys-- Dre Kirkpatrick CB (Alabama) He has Jerry Jones written all over him. Terrance Newman is awful.
15. Eagles-- David DeCastro OG (Stanford) Best OL prospect left and possibly in the entire draft.

26. Texans--Nick Perry DE (USC) Mario is too succesful to be retained given his new cap number and the Texans cut expenses.
27. Patriots (from Saints)-- Zach Brown ( Unc ) BPA for that scrubby defense !
28. Packers--Donta Hightower LB (Alabama)  Perfect fit for team that needs another playmaker on Defense.  I think they use like 6                   LBs sometimes with Raji the only big man.
29. Ravens --MELVIN INGRAM--The Ravens get another nice piece at linebacker
30. 49ers --Whitney Mercilus DE/OLB (Illinios) The 49ers pair Mercilus with 2011 1st round pick Aldon Smith
31. Pats -- Nick Toon WR (Wisconsin) Brady needs a WR to help spread the field.
