Five years is the Jays' deal limit; can they be...

February 22, 2012 4:13 am

mlsel, mumber one, I'm not going to call jerry an idiot for offering his opinion, if you don't agree with what he says, that's ok, but he's just speculating. If you agree then you could call jose any name in the book, that's your opinion too, players that produce at jose's level come once in a lifetime, and in my lifetime, I've never seen a blue jay hit 54 hr's before, and that's with them having two world series teams. If you think that he's a big problem all of a sudden, then send an email to AA and ask that he trades him, and they can get rid of the cancer on the club, I just don't see any player on the team having any problem with him.

Is he the leader on the team? Really? I don't see no C on his crest, I guess if he's the leader then its because teamates look up to him, nobody mentions all the time he's trying to coach guys like rasmus and lawrie on looking for the right pitch, or working on their mechanics with their swing, and this is just what I've seen on camera, who know's how many other players go asking him for his advice, and he helps out so many rookies on the team and even veterens, be it they're still young.

I never said Jose is not liked in the club house... Just that he whines alot... And not for the betterment of the franchise either... I am not suggesting anything else with Jose that you are suggesting I am... But he does whine when things don't go his way.. I am all for trading him if we get a huge package... Which I don't a team would offer one

It's amazing how you don't appreciate a current player on the roster that's hit over 40 hr's two years in a row now, but you'll rave about prospects that might be on the team in 2017.

AA and Beeston has said on separate occasions they were interested in Fielder if less than 5 years.

That's like saying you are interested in fat chicks but they can't weigh over 110 pounds.

I'm going to buy seasons tickets but only if the Jays outspend the Yankees.

I wasn't calling him a bitch or a loser or whatever. If you read, I was on the side that thought Jerry was an idiot for saying it. I think Jose is a great leader and a great player. But it's one or the other. Jerry is either an idiot of Jose is a bitch that doesn't want to win. Those are the options with what Jerry said. I lean to Jerry being an idiot but it seems many are defending Jerry's opinion....so that means Jose must be a whiny little loser bitch.

This anology makes no sense... Jays not wanting to sign Fielder over 5 years (or 9!) makes sense

Again, makes no sense but I am assuming you are being sarcastic

I wouldn't go as far as calling jerry an idiot for pointing out a possible scenario, I have too much respect for the guy, I grew up listening to him, but maybe he was off, but the truth is, I don't think the jays would pay anyone over $14M, I really believe that jose has set the ceiling.

It makes perfect sense. You said the Jays were interested in Fielder but only if it was 5 years. Since that was never going to happen they really weren't interested. If I say I like fat chicks with a weight limit of 110 lbs then I really don't like fat chicks right? The Jays were never interested in Fielder. That's the point I was making.

Again, makes no sense but I am assuming you are being sarcastic

It was sarcastic....and it still made perfect sense. I'm not really interested in buying seasons tickets (No way I could go to 81 games) but I can say I'm interested and not have to actually buy them if I put a ridiculous provision on buying them.

Maybe calling him an idiot was a little much. But I think his point was silly.

The jays were interested in Fielder... Not being foolish enough in offering Prince 9 years is a different story... Everybody knew Prince was not going to Toronto because the Jays did not want to go past 5 years... But that's not a bad thing and does not mean Jays had no interest...in some cases it may be wise to break that 5 yr rule but Prince is not that player

The only problem with the 5 yr limit is that the team will never be in the hunt for the top free agents unless they are old, top free agents in there prime will most likely command at least 7yrs, just the the way it is, incase they become Wells or Rios ironicly they have there guaranteed money longterm. 5yrs avoids the longterm problems but at the cost of getting the best.
