No. 1 Kentucky handles No. 8 Florida

Yup, it's the defense that makes this team so scary.

There is no way Florida should be in the Top 10. They barely beat an average Arizona team on their home court and just because the Gators are the 3rd best team in the SEC; it doesn't make them even close to an elite team. You are better than Georgia, Ole Miss, and Auburn, but that's not saying a whole lot.

UK shut the three down in the first half. Florida got some looks in the second, but by the time they fell it was over. The game should be closer in Gainesville. WATS UP HARVY THO?

What was that movie with Denzil Washington a couple of years ago, I believe it was Unstoppable. Kentucky is just that, I don't see them losing another game between now and the N.C.A.A. tournament. If Davis stays throughout his senior year, these Wildcats might have a lock on the S.E.C. for a few more years to come. Kentucky has to be right now as of this moment to be the prohibitive favorite to win it all in March.

Dk13beso...Florida is pretty good. They played Cuse and OSU tough on the road early. They shoot lights out. They aren't top 5, but they are top 12-10 range and should be a sweet 16 team. And, fact check, they are solidly in 2nd place in the SEC.

@dk13beso: What evidence do you have that Florida is the 3rd best team in the SEC? Because everything I've seen suggests they are clearly the 2nd best.

If Davis stays all 4 years, I'll be UK's starting point gurd his senior year. He's hands down #1 overall pick next year. UK stopped pushing the ball at the 8 minute mark. If they'd have kept running, it could have easily been 30.

Pretty good defense against one of the best shooting teams in the country.  This team is scary good defensively speaking !

Hey phillygator1137. To you and all Florida fans; I honestly feel Vandy and Mississippi State are much better than this Florida team and that fact will be proven in the conference tourney and beyond. The glory days of Florida athletics is becoming a distant memory in the rear view mirror. The motto for 2012 Florida sports is "It sucks to be a gator."

UK is impressive as hell. I really do hope that the Cats and the Orange meet each other in the NCAAs. Oughta be a hell of a good game.

Has Cal and his program, yes its his not Kentucky's, turned the SEC into the latest C-USA. When you dominate the 2nd best team in your conference one has to wonder. There are so many similarities.

To hold a team like Florida to less than 35% shooting is pretty remarkable. If Kentucky defends like this consistently, tell me who is going to beat them? They already have six guys averaging at or close to double figures. It must be a nightmare for an opposing coach to try and game plan against that. And then when you get stuffed on the offensive end, you might as well throw up your hands and take your ass whooping.

@dk13beso .... This is why message boards further the dumbing down process in this country. Miss. St. and Vandy are so much better than Florida that they each got handled by the Gators. Look, I am the first to admit this Gator team is flawed, and I thought the polls bumped them up a little high this week in eager anticipation of the game tonight. The Gators do not utilize Young enough, can't shoot free throws, and are too streaky to be a top-flight team. Anyone who watches the Gators regularly will admit that, even alums like myself who want them to win. Still, they are good. And since they handled both teams you mention, your argument is pretty bad. In fact, it is not an argument. It is an idiot with a computer and a keyboard. Look. dude, why don't you read a little instead of spouting your moronic thoughts next time. It would help America if message boards were not anonymous spaces for idiocy but rather forums for logical debate and conversation. You are helping to kill that dream. Just read a little bit each day, okay. Pick up the paper, or watch something intelligent on television. It will be better for you. You can still pretend to be a close-minded moron in front of your friends, but it would help if you didn't. Just work on though, okay. And, by the way, the glory days for Florida athletics are not in the past. Every program has peaks and valleys. In fact, such patterns are really part of life. UF is a powerful school with money and great leadership. We have excellent athletic facilities and people supporting the programs. An average season in football does not mean the sun doesn't rise tomorrow big guy. We are a very good basketball program and have the #1 team in baseball, this in addition to numerous other highly successful sports. Oh, and for the record, some of us care about academics, yourself obviously excluded. UF ranked #1 last year in Princeton Review's job placement for grads. Come to think of it, I am not doing so bad with my degree from UF. It is always "Great to be a Florida Gator." Congrats Kentucky. We are a bit short this year, so I hope you guys go all the way. Go SEC!

Oh and another thing - 11-11 from the stripe. Even the free-throw shooting is coming around. BE VERY AFRAID!!

Florida has defeated both Vandy and Miss St. which proves your assertion to be totally w/o merit.

As for Ky, they are as close to a pro team as any in the country.  Kidd-Gilchrist and Davis are one-and-doners, which is generally acknowledged by most everyone.  The only way Ky fails to win a National Championship with this team is through Coach Cal "mucking" it up, and when have we heard that before. 

Great game by Ky, as their defense forced Florida into many bad 3-pt shots, and Walker was taken totally out of the game in every respect. Davis is a defensive beast, and if I have the #1 pick in the draft, this summer, he's my man.

This is a good win, and Kentucky's awesome, but Florida is nowhere near the #8 team in the country, they're so overrated - they'd be a 4th or 5th place team in the Big 12 and probably not much better in the Big 10
