Omar Khan says .... RELAX!!!

February 11, 2012 10:37 pm

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Omar Khan isn't a "football" guy, although I'm sure he's learned much since joining the Steelers.  He's fantastic with numbers and he's in the correct position/job with the Steelers.  Why would anybody want him as a GM when he doesn't know how to evaluate football talent!? Would anybody want him to be doing Kevin Colbert's job?  Would you want Omar Khan running the Steelers draft?

Good to see Omar Khan staying with the Steelers.  He is doing great things with contracts.  For instance, he has taken care of restructuring the contracts of LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons, and Ike Taylor to free up millions in cap space for the 2012 Steelers.

For instance, he has taken care of restructuring the contracts of LaMarr WoodleyLawrence Timmons, andIke Taylor to free up millions in cap space for the 2012 Steelers.
And it looks pretty obvious that he set these contracts up last year with this in mind and will probably do the same next year. Collectively Woodley, Timmons and Taylor are due 20.375M in 2013. He can free up a lot of money by turning them into bonuses.

You can bet Khan and the Steelers have a pretty good idea of what the cap is in 2014. They are positioning themselves several years in advance when they do these contracts. Unlike the rest of the league, we won't have a ton of cap space when it increases when that time comes but the money we're investing now with these new deals will look like bargains when teams start throwing money around.
