According to the Boston Herald, Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis recently got engaged to Tom Brady's sister Julie, a California schoolteacher who has a 5-year-old daughter.
The Inside Track report indicates that Youkilis, who married Enza Sambataro in Mexico in 2008 but reportedly parted ways in 2010, was with the Bradys in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl. Although, it should be noted that the Herald gossip columnists reported in October that Youkilis was spending time with a different Brady sister, Nancy (a story that was soon removed from the paper's website).
When he wasn't battling with Ray Allen or busy putting up a game-high 27 points, Kobe Bryant found time to have a lively court conversation with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski during Thursday's 88-87 Lakers win over the Celtics at TD Garden. Gronkowski was courtside next to the TNT broadcast table while several more Patriots were courtside or just a few rows back taking in the game between the two NBA rivals.
"I told him the Eagles need a tight end," joked Bryant, who grew up in Philadelphia and remains an Eagles fan. "I'm recruiting. He's a freak athlete. He shouted at me and I shouted back. It's fun to have those conversations with athletes you respect."
Bryant took a picture with Gronkowski after the game on the court, and another with Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes, who is a huge Lakers fan. Spikes changed his Twitter avatar picture from a picture of Bryant's jersey to his picture with him immediately after the game and admitted on Twitter that Bryant is his favorite pro athlete.
Other Patriots on hand were owner Robert Kraft and son Dan, Devin McCourty, Tiquan Underwood, Sterling Moore, Patrick Chung, Julian Edelman and Vince Wilfork.
Bryant also had a message after the game for Celtics coach Doc Rivers, whose son Austin hit the game-winning 3-pointer for Duke against North Carolina on Wednesday night.
"I told him his son has some big cajones," Bryant said. "He should be very proud."
