Miami Dolphins Offseason

I had seen that reported.  I did get a kick out of some of the comments for the article, particularly this one......

"I’m pretty sure Sanchez already has the primary weapon of Sparano’s offense, the 5 yard check down, in his arsenal."

I do actually question the Sparano - Sanchez match,
From what we saw, Sparano's philosophies seem to be more in line with what Ryan wants, which may be most important but I'm not sure it's what Sanchez needs or will need to take the next step.  It should create an interesting dynamic in NY.......If Sanchez is not more efficient this year, it sure looks like he'll be the one out the door first.

I think it's worth noting that Henne, if anything, was pretty efficient in Sparano's offense..

The parallel that I would draw is the complaint some had regarding Henne's development - that the emphasis was so geared toward not ever making any mistakes it actually had an adverse effect.
Most of what you read about Sanchez has been much the same.  Where they have had him to the point where you are potentially over-thinking to a point where it a hindrance and you are not allowing your natural talents to take over.

Now how much of that is really to blame, and how much of it is Henne/Sanchez responsibility and talent (or lack there of) is certainly debatable......but I would not dismiss that it has played no role.  Much like Henne, I do not think Mark Sanchez is very similar to Pennington.......if the Jets main goal was to "fix" Sanchez, they would have been better off hiring an OC with a track record of developing young QB's.  So I do question if it's a situation where they are trying to fit a square peg through a round hole.  Time will tell......and while I do like Sparano and would love to wish him well.......for our sake I wouldn't mind if it failed.

Well, the question is, to me, what exactly is Sparano's offense? Was it the Henning version we saw 2008-2010? Or the Daboll verson we saw last season?

I tend to think more of the former, then the latter. And, I also think the Jets are wanting to go back to being a run first team which they believe will take pressure off Sanchez. I find it interesting they chose Pennington to "help" him, as you do. But, he could do far worse. Pennington is quite bright, and I think there is a misconception that he teaches others to be a clone of himself. That's not coaching, that's cloning. It hardly ever works.

A successful coach looks for strengths in a player and tries to use them to the players advantage. He finds weaknesses, and gives direction on improvement. The idea is to help make the player as well rounded as his skillset will allow. I am sure Pennington has been around enough coaches to understand this. And, being his skillset is limited as well, probably understands this better then most.

Wasn't 2006 the only time he's ever called plays? He was with Dallas as an assistant.

It was one of Bledsoe's worst years though Cry and his last.
However, Dallas finished 5th in Total Offense that year, and 4th in scoring. Do I think that's all Sparano? Maybe not, but I think it goes to show that myself, and many others may have been a bit harsh in Henning's criticsm. It is about the players on offense, and an offensive coordinator can only affect that so much.

I agree completely. Henning really didn't have the pieces in place.
