Ward tells Steelers he'll rework contract to st...

February 11, 2012 4:26 pm

I really would like to know what is going on with the Steelers. Firing an assistant that the start QB supported and the Head Coach had no say in--hiring a replacement without seeming to discuss this with the QB and the coach really seems very odd. Does Rooney Jr. really believe he is qualified as the GM and Head Coach. Now a Steeler legacy player is being shown the door even though he has offered to rework his contract. What's up? the NFL is

Here's the deal with the Todd Haley hiring. Tomlin didn't have the guts to fire Arians, who should have been fired, so Rooney basically did it for him by not renewing his contract. Rooney is sick and tired of Ben's crap and Ben is the QB so he should just shut up and play. He doesn't have to be part of the decisioin on who is hired. The Rooney's have protected his a$$ enough over the years. Someone had to step in and make a tough decision and yes, Rooney is qualified to make that decision. As far as Ward being shown the door, that decision hasn't been made yet. My guess is, he restructures his contract, comes back for one more year and then retires. One of the problems that hurt the Steelers back in the 80's was that they kept some veterans way past their prime. They can't do that again. They will be fine and in the hunt for the SB again next year. Don't listen to this media crap. They just want a good story and if there is none there, they will make one up.

For a veteran like Ward, I believe the minmum salary will be too high for the Steelers to retain him. I don't see him playing anywhere otherthan Arizona, and that's a long shot. Steelers have way too much other talent at WR to worry about Ward. It was a great run for Ward but his time is up. Keeping him will be nothing more than an unproductive distraction. Don't understand all the negativity directed at Big Ben. He's had 2 HCs and now 3 OCs even though the Steelers have played in 3 of the last 7 SBs. Frankly, I'm surprised I haven't heard more from him. Up to this point, he hasn't said really anything other than indirect or direct positive remarks about Arians. People really need to get a clue.

I would think the Steelers would be more than willing to restructure the contract of Hines Ward as the guy is Steelers "lifer" and I think he at least deserves discussion about rh tpoic with the Rooneys. At the end of the day I believe the Rooneys... being the classy owners they always have been will find a way. Oh and this is from a Cowboys fan who would loved to have had Hines Ward!

Ward will be back as the fourth reciever next year with a contract worth about a million dollars. When you have three young guys at the top of the depth chart you can keep a veteran at the bottom of it without much of an issue. The guy set the attitude for a team that won two championships during his stay, he has been the MVP of the last decade and if keeping him around one more year than he is needed will show him grattitude for that fact, then you do it. They better make the right decision.

Donald river threw that same feeler out there. Nice to keep the old timeres around if they can contribute but if there is a young guy with some potential you keep him before you keep either ward or driver. I like both of them...keick them up tot hront office as PR guys or to some sort of coaching position... Tori gurley is a better option than the twin D and I suspect the Steelers can find someone with potential to hango n to for the fourth or fifth WR slot

If he's willing to take a pay cut to stay with the team that drafted him, which we all know is not very common in today's NFL, I think that should be applauded. To have a guy like Hines Ward as injury insurance (Emmanuel Sanders has already missed significant time with injury) is a huge asset. His leadership on and off the field is a bonus too. Let him retire as a Steeler naturally. It's stupid to have him go play another year or two with another team, then have the Steelers resign him just to retire as a Steeler. Go #86

If he really wants to help his team he will retire and rid them of the entire 4 mil he is owed due to the fact that they are way over the salary cap.

Ward knows that he has one season left and, of course, wants to spend it with the team that gave hime the chance to be considered a HOF player. They will reach a deal and Hines will retire a Steeeler and will be working for the team in some capacity next year.
