I like the fact that the Caps are playing better in their own end but I too am not sold on Hunter as a coach. Still one of my all time favorite players. Fact is the guy is playing with several key players out of the lineup in Backstrom and Green. But what his decisions on who is playing is confusing. The line changes seem awkward at times- i was at the Jets game last Thursday and there was a time late in the 3rd when both teams were regular strength and we had 1 dman out there for at least 10 seconds. The shifts seem to go well over a minute and guys seems to be worn out by the end of the game- there was a time in the Rangers game today that Alzner/Carlson were on the ice for what must have been 3+ mins including an icing face off. Gotta give credit to the Rangers for the pressure but why not call a time out there? Then there are periods of time when the Caps seem to have no energy for periods at a time, most recently the 1st and 2nd period against the Jets. I would think if anything Hunter would instill in these guys it would be work ethic and heart. At the same time if Laich can get healthy and Backstom can get back (grrr borque) the team could be in a situation where they are in playoff mode for the last two months of the season which seems to be how teams are going deep in the playoffs lately.
Why have Knuble as a healthy scratch? Put him back on the top line can get his big frame back in the crease.
Why not play Erskine? Expecially over Schultz or Orlov. The guy brings toughness and cant be any worse. Orlov is a turn over king.
FYI- if you live in the DMV you can find Hunter at one of the two Irish Bars in Claredon just about any night they are in town and not playing.
Rangers looked very good.
They have been playing best in East last gamesWhat does this even mean?
