SU Vs Louisville

February 12, 2012 5:07 pm

As a Cuse fan I know Cuse hasn't won against Louisville since 06, I know Louisville likes to press after every basket or free throw they make, I know Pitino has gotten Boeheim record but I think Cuse will win both meetings. Cuse has better talent, more experience and better defense than Louisville.  Road games are hard to play but I think Cuse will find a way to come up on top. This year Louisville can't press as much if they want to win b/c Cuse plays 10 deep, in the past Cuse would only play 7 -8 deep that would frustrate them but this year is different. The Press won't bother Cuse b/c we have great guards who can bring up the basketball. I think Louisville will get some 3's on Cuse but it won't be enough. I hope Louisville will experience the pain like Cuse has over the years.   Cuse 74 Louisville 67  Any Comments?

Really rooting for a Cuse win here as it would essentially give MU a 3 game cushion(with 5 to play) at attaining a double bye. But, UL is hot right now and getting healthy. This is a big game for them obviously as well and their ability to knock outside shots against the zone could be huge. It will definitely be a great game and Cuse winning this one on the road will really say something to how good their team is this year. I like that both teams had to travel after playing on Saturday to make things as close to even as possible(although UL traveled considerably less distance). Quick turnaround game should be a great one.

Cusefan -- great points about our guards. The Louisville press will not bother this team.

There are two things that suggest to me that Syracuse will take the game tomorrow. First, Louisville has won the last 7 games against SU. Our two seniors, KJ and Scoop, have never beaten Louisville in their careers. They will be playing these two games with everything they have. Everyone will be ready.

Second, Louisville has won 6 in a row. And that's great. All the talking heads & bloggers are saying that Louisville has turned their season around. And they have. They could have just folded like Connecticut or Pittsburgh. Louisville didn't. More power to them. But the fact is that in this six-game winning streak they've enjoyed, they haven't played a single team with a winning record in the Big East. All 7 games against bottom tier teams.

Playing Syracuse is different than playing teams that are 4-8 and 4-9. Louisville is 6-4 this year against top 50 teams. Syracuse 7-1. I think we take them, 70-62.

I think its fairly obvious Syracuse has more talent but I think Louisville gets this one at home.  They are hot right now and confident..especially at home against a team they have beaten so many times in a row.  Louisville finally has some chemistry going and with Blackshear back and Kuric healthy they really are a top 20 team.  Syracuse wont have a lot of trouble with the press so it wouldn't surprise me if the Cards lay off a little bit.  I don't think either team will pull too far ahead unless Louisville has a meltdown like they did against Providence.  Good luck to your Orange tomorrow though it should be a great game.

CF25, this may be the marquis game of the Big East season! The Cards stifling press vs.the Orangemen's Length, depth and speed. I think this will be a back and forth game of runs and stops that will leave everyone tired just watching it. You'll have 22-23,000 at the Yum but you have to come up to the Tundra in front of 33-34,000 Domecidal maniacs! Good luck to you and the Cards, this will be a barnburner !!!

Looking at both teams, I think you have the cream of the crop for the BE this season.  GTown and Marquette have also been solid and both teams beat Louisville, but that was before they got "hot" again.  Both were close games and MARQ was the last time that L'Ville lost.  'Cuse beat both of them, but the games were in Syracuse.  I think you can throw the common games out the window.
My feeling is that with Blackshear and Behanan both healthy now, the Cards have additional weapons outside of their senior Kuric and soph Dieng at Center.  The problem is, they do not have the depth.  Talent, yes with their first 5 or 6, but if you get any of them in foul trouble, or if someone has an off-night, there is no one to really step in and make a significant impact.
Look at 'Cuse's roster for a minute.  Starters:  Jardine, Triche, Joseph, Melo and either CJ Fair or Rakeeem Christmas, along with Waiters, Southerland, Keita and Michael Carter-Williams coming in off the bench?  The second five could prpbaly make the NCAA Tournament this season if they were the starters.  Scary, but true.  Anyone can and does step up at any time.  The 2-3 is a work of art under Boeheim, not just a defense.   Rebounding is still a concern, but with offensive and defensive talent like this, I am not sure it is as big a concern as many "experts" and fans think.
I called a win for the Cardinals at home a few days ago because the game was at the YUM.  I have changed my mind.  Too much talent and depth and experience for Pitino and his team to handle tomorrow night.  SU 76 L'Ville 69.  STEAK OVA!

Go 'Cuse!!!

Just one more thing:
I have also heard a lot of talk about SU not having a "go to guy."  Really?  Does the name Kris Joseph ring a bell?  If not you should do some research.  29 Pts against GTown when the team scored 64 total.  That was a 64-61 OT win for the 'Cuse.  KJ is their guy if they need him.  If not, Scoop and Deion will take care of it, or Triche.
On another note:
I love Anthony "Uni" Davis from a pure BB standpoint.  He could win a lot of individual awards and probably go pro.  SU will probably only have one shot at him. Go 'Cuse!  Sweep the STATE of KY!

So let me get this straight... Syracuse will beat Louisville because of these three things:

Talent- While almost every top 25 team has their "go to" talent, Louisville has always been well-rounded. Sadly, being well-rounded doesn't get the attention, but it does get wins. And if I'm not mistaken, that whole talent arguemnt went out the window last season when Louisville was supposed to finish towards the bottom of the BE standings, and instead found themselves 3 points away from the tournament championship (BTW, Louisville was 2-1 against UConn and 1-0 against Butler, National Champ and Runner-up). Syracuse probably does have more talent, but they've had more talent for the past two seasons.

Depth-  Louisville goes anywhere from 7-11 deep. Obviously missing Buckles, Marra, and SVT hurts, but with Wayne Blackshear, Peyton Siva, and Chane Behannon all finally healthy, it really takes the load off Kyle Kuric, Chris Smith, Russ Smith, and Gorgui Dieng. Throw in some solid minutes from Jared Swopshire, Kevin Ware, and maybe Zach Price or Elijah "Bullet" Justice, Louisville has 7-11 solid players. Are they as good as Syracuse's 8-10? Maybe not, but that doesn't mean they won't play just as well.

Experience- This one makes no sense. Louisville lost two guys (Jennings and Knowles) from last year's team. Their replacements are two top freshmen (Behannon and Blackshear) plus a very streaky sophomore (Russ Smith). So is Syracuse's "experience" better because Louisville had to replace two (TWO!) guys? Doubtful. And furthermore, as one poster stated, this entire group of Orangemen has never beat the Cardinals.

Can someone explain to me the overwhelming confidence? If I'm a Cuse, this is the one team I don't ever want to play (as a Card fan, I hate playing Notre Dame because that game never goes as planned). I'm not saying Louisville will win tomorrow, but with it being at the YUM!, the odds are definitely in the Cards' favor.

^^  As I said.  Talent, Depth and Experience.

Confidence comes from a 25-1 record.

Road makes no difference.  That lesson has already been learned.

^^ Karma much?

If there ever was a "scare" game; this is it.  My brothers and I were at the Yum center for last year's game and what a beautiful place to play ball.  At any rate, Louisville handled Syracuse with ease.  That was last year; this is this year.  Syracuse is a better team this year and with Fair, Waters, and Melo stepping up their play, Syracuse should win this one in a "romp".  Now comes the intangibles.  Syracuse played hard on Friday, have a travel day and have to play Louisville at home.  Louisville is now playing some of their best ball with two freshment who have improved greatly.  They are not the same team that started the year.  I take the points and go with Louisville on this one.

Kind of expect Louisville to win this game tonight. Syracuse was a lot deeper and more talent than Louisville a few years ago too but the Cards still beat them. I don't know if its something strategically that Pitino does but everything he has done has worked against Syracuse time after time and lots of times Cuse was more talented. I like watching these games because Pitino always pulls out the stops in the big games. UL usually bombs away from 3 against that 2-3 zone and I don't expect that to change. If I'm ever going to pick Syracuse in this matchup they are going to have prove in on the court. Until then I'll say Louisville wins tonight 74-66.

This game reminds me alot of the Vandy/Uk game Saturday.  Cuse is obviously a much better team, but playing on the road agaisnt a team that has had their number....   UL (like Vandy) really needs this game worse than Syracuse and are sure to be firing on all cylinders.

I just don't see UL winning this one, in fact I think Syracuse beats them easily 10-15 points.  Louisville just doesn't have the firepower to hang with Syracuse.  If Ville tries to press, Cuse runs all over them.  If its a half court game, Louisville has a terrible time scoring and will be lucky to hit 60 points.

Where is this Syracuse fire power?  Sure they look like monsters in the carrier dome, but that's only because the cameras are 15 feet above the player surface.  They struggle to score every other game.

As far as this Syracuse fan is concerned, all the pre-game analysis is meaningless. Louisville has whipped the Orange seven consecutive times. They've beaten SU at home, at the dome, and in the Garden. Whether the Orange look like a better team (as they have several times) or a worse one, it makes no difference -- the Cardinals find a way to win.

So, short of catostrophic injury, I'm uninterested in any excuses. This looks to me like the best team in SU history, and if we can't finally get off the goddam schneid (home or away, makes no difference), with this team, then I don't know when the hell we'll ever beat the Cards (Ok, in early March in Syracuse). I know that Lousiville is a good team playing it's best baskteball of the season, but it's time for the Orange to demonstrate that they're qualitatively superior to teams gone by. So let's man up, SU.

Go Orange! Beat Louisville!

A little cut and paste action for you rondoshow:

SU Team Ranking
Big East/Divison 1

PTS/G - 77.8 1st / 19th
OPP PTS/G - 61.0 2nd / 26th

That is nearly an 18 point differential.  Camera position aside, the numbers do NOT lie.

Firepower comes from going 9 or 10 deep and if the game is on the line KJ is the guy.

SU is gonna  b i t c h slap UofL.  I touched base with my brother in Kentucky.  He sent me the guide.  How to rip a Cardinal Fan a New One and the Memphis cook book "A Chefs guide of How to BBQ Cardinals."  I'll add my own splash of Orange to the sauce.

I'm all set BBQ and Beer.  As always, a close first half and a rip their heart out second half.  SU by 10 my Brothers!

Now there is a man stepping up to the plate! SU by 10 ????? Boeheim better not do that slow-down act like he did with Georgetown.  Almost cost SU  the game.  IMO, SU has the fire power to do it, but they have to start early and run, run, run.
