KU, and mainly TT, is so bad at the end here. They have had like 4 or 5 TO in the last 3 mins including missing the front end of a 1and 1 twice. This Kansas team could be good but I am afraid what would happen in close games in the tournament.

Another W in AFH-West!!

Game ball goes to (and this one is easy): Withey with this line:  6/8 FGs, 6/8 FTs, 11 caroms, 18 pts, 8 BLOCKS!, and Jerod Hasse-like floor burns diving for loose balls!!

Your point guard has to be able to make free throws down the stretch. TT has to clean that up. Otherwise a hard fought road win in conference when your POY candidate has one of his worst cames. Good defensive effort.

Yeah, I'm beginning to get excited about him...perhaps that Mizzou game was what he needed to really come out and show what he's capable of.  Now it's 3 VERY good games in a row.  I'll give it a couple more games, but I think we're on the road now to being able to say we have 3 really solid players.  Although T-Rob didn't have his best game tonight...but that doesn't matter so much since Withey took over, posting T-Rob's average numbers.  Plus the  8 blocks...wow.

So this game was really ugly, I think.  I guess that's just the way it goes when we play K-State, usually.  Oh well.  Another Win on the Road is good.  Maybe we can come back home on Saturday and blow out Tech...that would feel really, really good right now! Cool

Any win for KU in Manhattan is a good one but this one was lacking in style points for sure. I am getting really excited at the play of Withey. That dude is becoming a team leader too. I mean how about that blocked shot then the outlet to EJ, run the floor for the alley oop jam. Plus he was getting vocal in the huddle after K-State took the lead. He is very valuable on the defensive end because TRob plays absolutely zero defense because he can't do it without fouling. TT really needs to figure out how to finish games if this team is going to make a run in the tournament.

Wow, back 2 back games were Kansas has really played poorly in the 2nd half. Whitey's emergence is great for this squad, but it's having a somewhat negative effect on Robinson on the defensive end. TRob has become so lazy in his help defense and it's attributing to a lot of unnecessary fouls. EJ is really becoming less and less of a factor, the guy has so much athletisim but chooses to waste it exclusively spotting up for 3's. Our bench was useless as Wesley and Young did little but attract whistles. Teahan continues to struggle knocking down wide open looks. Taylor allowed the Cats to stay in it down the stretch missing 2 front ends from the line. I 'm glad I don't have to take part in the Jayhawks practice tomorrow as Self is gonna have these guys running like Kenyans out there.

Withey played well, especially as a defensive intimidator, and though NOTHING was falling for us on the perimiter, we gutted it out!  We're going to need a super-solid effort from Withey (obviously) to go deep in the national tourney.  He definitely will ease the skid of losing our Senior leadership next year and provide a steady presence as long as he keeps playing this way and improving here and there.

That was an ugly win, but KSU had alot to do with that as well.  They muddied the waters up and we were content to play there game.  Lucky we came out with a win honestly.

Withey is the man (for now).  I don't expect him to maintain these outbursts, but now its interesting to see if teams pay more attention to both him and Trob or just one not the other.

TT had some amazing and some not so amazing.  Great shots for 3's when we needed them, but some usual questionable ones as well.  All in all, he played well enough for us to win this ugly affair.  Has got to hit his FT's or teams will foul him more and more as the season goes in close games.

TRob, was not a factor tonight.

EJ is all but gone, but he did rebound and show signs of being more aggresive.

Releford- don't know what to say about him right now.

Teahan- usual.

We need to figure out a way at the end of games to get the ball in the hands of the guys that are capable of knocking down free throws under pressure. Four straight failures under pressure from the line for Taylor tell me that it's time to make sure that WITHEY gets the ball in his hands when the other team is looking to foul. It's a tough spot to be in when you best free throw shooter can't handle the ball under pressure but your best ball handler can't hit free throws under pressure. Not good.

I forgot to mention but how many teams send a 7 footer to the line to shoot technical free throws? It was the right move but I was think how odd it was. He knocked them down and is easily the best free throw shooter on the team right now.

Even T-Rob has been more consistent from the line in big moments than Taylor.

But the great thing about Taylor is that inconsistancy from the line in big moments can change in an instant, wow another unexpected dip, this is the best roller coaster ever!

TRob was drilling his free throws before conference started at about 76-77%. He struggled the first 6 or 7 games of conference, but is back on as of now.

Did anyone else notice KU playing a triangle and two or box and one in the second half last night? Bob Knight didn't seem to pick up on this. I haven't seen all of the games, but this is the first time I remember seeing the Hawks play a "junk defense" this year. Any thoughts?

We went to a zone for a bit to change it up and it went pretty well. It was mainly to protect our bigs from foul trouble.

Yeah Bob Knight didn't notice the change in defense because he was stuck on the supposed TT push off which I believe was a firm flop.

Agreed. Frank Martin called it an attempted flop in the postgame interview as well. We lucked out that the correct call was made. We've been at the wrong end of some calls that could go either way lately.

Bob Knight was particularly terrible last night. He has really gone down hill this year. Normally, I find him to be pretty educational. But this year he has gotten stuck on these weird rants like he's a stroke victim or something. He just won't let things go and move on to the current action.
