I did say swamp, it is a ditch.  The green and gold does clash with the moss, reeds and lily pads.  That form of reddish hue and yellow ochre work for me.  A nice balance.  GL tomorrow Cutter, but watch that Marquise Lee...he is special.

Swamp, bog, ditch, dumpster, cal sag channel, floodplains, etc. are all acceptable substitute terms for the ditch.   They're all close enough.

Domi wins.   Man, I had to review some of Odgers work, well done Cutter.

Is it me or has the recent discussion about Capitals players completely confirmed what a trainwreck circus McPhee has put together?
I think circus is a good way to put it. I thought it was funny Brouwer says he can no longer trust Hamrlik on the ice. Cracked me up anyway.
I gotta go with Domi also. I havnt seen to much of Odgers work. I'll have to refresh my memory on him. I used to yell at the TV when Domi was in a mood..."somebody knock that smile of his face". The Proby, Domi bouts are classic and I will never forget them. I miss Probert like the rest of you, one of my all-time favorites.

What's with Whitney talking about owners not growing up loving the sport?

Many of the new owners were hockey fans long before they came into ownership, especially the Canadian owners.     The league has the best sports fans for owners they've had in at least a few decades.    It doesn't mean the owners are smart or that they aren't greedy, and it doesn't mean they aren't idiots, but to say they aren't hockey fans puts him in the stoopid category.   Some aren't but many are avid fans and have been for a really long time, and not just the Canadian owners.    I don't like the owners much but they are a much better group (in terms of being fans of the sport) compared to a decade ago.    We also know fans collectively are morons, so this may be a bigger problem than if they weren't fans.

The Range Rover is now idling at the back of the Coliseum, where the Canucks players would emerge after games. It was here, one night years ago, that Canucks defenceman Lars Lindgren gave a tall, scrawny 10-year-old his stick and then signed it. “I’ll never forget it,” Aquilini recalls.

Fast-forward 37 years. Aquilini is in Las Vegas at the invitation of Mike Gillis, the new general manager he has hired to run his hockey team. It is a meeting of the team’s scouts, one of whom is Lindgren. Aquilini sees him and extends his hand.

“Hi Lars,” he says. “Francesco Aquilini. Remember me?”

Whitney is wrong in Vancouver.

Not a bad night on the tube, one channel I have the ND game, and on CBC they're replaying the 1976 game between the Flyers and red army.

Cutter must be all fired up...Notre Dame is off to the National Championship game. I didnt think that was going to happen at the beginning of the season, never even crossed my mind. Good for them. If the Irish play Alabama in the NC game, will anyone score?

A Vikings win over Cutler and the Bears tomorrow would be nice. Go Vikings!

...and I have no clue what Ray Whitney was thinking, and Bolland is sorry for his accidental retweet.  What is retweet? Must be what Elmer Fudd did when he was hunting wabbits or something. I know...dont quit the day job.

Snowed in the ditch today, didnt stick to the walls tho.

Any player who says the owners in my eyes loses all credibility.  Why else would any of these guys bought into the NHL? I'm not sure there is even one owner who really makes his living off his NHL franchise.  There just aren't enough extremely profitable NHL hockey teams to even think they are only in this for the money.  I would bet most of the owners love the game, especially if we're talking about individual owners versus large ownership groups.  To say or even think otherwise is foolish to say the least.  Just because the owners are refusing to sign what they consider to be a terrible proposal by the NHLPA doesn't mean they don't love the game.  Just as I'm not going to accuse most of the players of only being in it for the money.  Since there are 700 players a small percentage probably lost a little love or lust for the game but overall I think both the players and the owners don't like what's happening right now.

yes i am fired up will.i doidnt expect ND to run the table at the start of the season either and considering we had the #1 strength of schedule and some real ?'s at qb and the secondary makes this year even more impressive. if brian kelly doesnt get coach of the year then they should just get rid of the award.i HATE usc and loved every minute of it. f@ck the trojans!!!

k because my piece of sh%t phone didnt send my post yesterday ill try again.good posts on domi and seems we have an educated group on the goons of yesteryear. ill throw another at you guys.both these guys were the most feared fighters for most of their careers so in a heavyweight matchup

Probie v George Laracque

gotta go w probie as tough as Laracque is and as big as he is hes more of a mauler than a fighter.not sure if this ever happened in reality, probie was on the downside of his career when laracque was coming up

GO IRISH!!!!!

There was a little history between Laraque and Probie, but I could never vote against Probert...I should probably disqualify myself:) In all honesty I would think probert would take him in a close one. I remember those two squaring off in the past and they were both very respectful of one another. So Probert gets my vote.

Looking forward to the Bears, Vikings. Hope the good Ponder shows up. I guess Cutler is going to start for the Bears.

Spent the morning climbing up and down a ladder getting the Christmas stuff down from the attick (good work out) at my moms. That will take the spirit out of you real fast. Oh what joy my @$$!!!!

Probert in his prime would have demolished Laraque.  They did dance and hug a couple of times but Laraque looked scared.

I used to really enjoy the heavyweights.  Those Chris Nilan/Jay Miller fights were some of my faves.

I think that Bettman and Fehr should get a barefoot cruise off the coast of Africa.  Followed by a tour of Japanese Nuclear facilities and then break bread with Afghan rebels.  Dinner at a Hamas stronghold.  Perfect X-mas.
