Lakers Fans Roll Call

I agree Bam. I'd hate to see them lose Pau as well. I'm not sure how tradeable he'd be anyway. He's 32 and due 38 million over the next 2 seasons. He'd only be attractive to a team that feel like his skill set will move them to the next level. Whether that's lower tier playoff team that looking to make a deeper run, or a team looking to get to the finals. Then the question becomes, how do the Lakers get anything close to equal value from that team?

I too agree that we need to see how Gasol plays with Nash in the lineup. I'm not buying the rumor that Nash demanded the Lakers don't trade Gasol in order for him to come to Los Angeles though.

Anything of equal trade value for Gasol will have to be some combo of roll players. They won't be able to trade him for a star. If Gasol still doesn't get it with Nash in the lineup, how much value does he have for the Lakers anyway? A Bargnani/Calderon combo would theorectically provide more value.

i'd personally prefer Danilo Gallinari over Bargnani, but i KNOW that trade ain't happening...

in any case, i agree that it's gonna take a while before the Lakers will actually entertain trade proposals. it all hinges pretty much on IF Pau decides to put on his "big boy pants"...

anyways, i think this li'l article pretty much sums it up...

The [Lakers] know how to play the game.

Reports surfaced early this week that the Lakers had informed [Pau Gasol] that if he couldn't fit into Mike D'Antoni's system, he would be traded. After a flurry of speculation over for what and where Gasol could be traded (we did an entire podcast on the subject), the Lakers have now played the market again.

They've leaked that they're rejecting trade offers for Gasol, including some from Toronto. [From ESPN]:

The Los Angeles Lakers, largely at the behest of general manager Mitch Kupchak, have rebuffed trade inquiries from at least two teams for Pau Gasol, according to sources with knowledge of the Lakers' thinking.

The Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves have recently tried to engage the Lakers in trade discussions for Gasol, sources told ESPN.com, but the Lakers continue to tell teams that call that they will not consider dealing the Spaniard until L.A. can fully assess its roster after the return of injured point guard [Steve Nash].

This is the same line the Lakers set the table with a week ago. So why make it known they're even going to consider it eventually?

Because the Lakers are setting a market. Should Steve Nash return and the team take off, well, no need for a trade. Forget about it, nevermind, we don't know what you're talking about, what trade rumor? But if Nash returns and Gasol continues to struggle, the Lakers will want to establish the best market for him.

The Lakers almost never lose trade deals. They always wind up on the winning end. And in pursuant of that, they would still be trading the best player involved in the deal, under any reasonable circumstance. So they want to establish the high ground, develop a bidding war prior to the actual trade, and keep it on hold.

This is pretty great maneuvering by the Lakers. It puts more pressure on Gasol, but at this point, the Lakers are through babying him. He has to step up and earn his money, and in doing so, prevent the trade that he's feared for more than two years

lol, cut a little bit of a break. i mean, they don't have any idea what it's like to be fans of an organization where gaining titles is commonplace. but then, we kinda are a little spoiled way. it is what it is, i guess...

Narcissism is a term with a wide range of meanings, depending on whether it is used to describe a central concept of psychoanalytic theory, a mental illness, a social or cultural problem, or simply a personality trait. Except in the sense of primary narcissism or healthy self-love, "narcissism" usually is used to describe some kind of problem in a person or group's relationships with self and others. In everyday speech, "narcissism" often means egotism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness. Applied to a social group, it is sometimes used to denote elitism or an indifference to the plight of others. In psychology, the term is used to describe both normal self-love and unhealthy self-absorption due to a disturbance in the sense of self.

Lakers Fans Roll Call

All things considered, I think the Lakers played fairly well last night. They appeared to make a good defensive adjustment on Westbrook as he scored 27 in the 1st half, but was held to 6 points in the 2nd half after starting that half 0-7!! Unfortunately, that's when Durant decided to Heat up. LOL!! I think the Lakers will be just fine once Nash, Gasol and Blake are back in the lineup. People keep talking about how Nash's return won't help the defense. I say yes and no on that. Will it help in a direct way as in Nash is is a great defender who can lock down opposing point guards? Of course not. Even if Nash were once a great defender (and he never has been) at 38, he couldn't be expected to still be. However, his return shoud make the offense more effective which means the Lakers can score with other teams and there should be a reduction in turnovers, which indirectly helps the defense. The Lakers turned the ball over 17 times last night, take away 4 or 5 of those turnovers, that means 4 or 5 more possessions and therefore opportunities to score. The Lakers lost by 6. Will the Lakers be good enough to beat the Thunder 4/7 after the missing players return? I don't know. I still think OKC would be favored in a series, but I would like the Lakers chances of pulling the upset alot better. Sorry about the wall of text. Still haven't figured out the formatting issue on my laptop since I upgraded my Internet Explorer. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

We have to remember that the Lakers are having to basically learn the D'Antoni offense on the fly without the one player who understands it and runs it better than anybody. They spent the whole preseason learning the Princeston offense. It's going to take time. They are on their own timetable as Dwight said last night; not the media's or the hater's. 62 games left to played. They might not have the greatest of seedings, but I think they'll be fine come playoff time.

Nash will certainly indirectly help the defense. More scores and less turnovers leads to less transition opportunities for the opponents. There are few starting PGs in the NBA that are great defensively and can defend the starting PGs of the league. That's why I always chuckle when people want to point this out about Nash.
