One could make a much better case that agnosticism is not a religion rather than atheism.

Here is the definition of atheism: The theory or belief that God does not exist.


Since you cannot know whether God exists or not then you must say that you believe God does not exist, which makes it a religion.

Why would I imagine it that way?  We're talking about belief, not food.

You BELEIVE there is no God.  Belief is taking something for truth without proof, but by faith.  You don't know there is no God.  You believe it with faith.  Thus, religion.

You have faith, there is no God.  That is religion.

The reason I have felt that Atheism is a Religion is it's element of faith. 


Without faith that their is no Spiritual World, no Soul, no Creator, then there would be no Atheism.  


I realize that one can't prove a negative and also until The Lord comes back, I couldn't convince an Atheist, or an Antitiheist, that He exists.


It's either in one's Soul or it isn't.  Maybe someday, before its too late.  Maybe not.

Nope, despite your undeserved arrogance, I realize exactly what you're saying, which is why I realize it's nonsense.  It does nothing more than make you feel superior and more open-minded.  In reality, if you don't believe in a god, you're an atheist and if you are unsure or you feel we can't know for sure, you're also an agnostic.  Trying to rationalize your way out of calling yourself an atheist isn't going to deny the reality that you are one.

As far as the rest of you and the whole atheism/faith thing, not that it's going to make a dent in your thick heads, but there is no element of faith in atheism.  Atheism is not accepting the positive claim that a god exists.  Just like there is no faith involved in me not accepting Master if he says he's an alien lizard from Pluto who has lived on Earth for millions of years.  Faith is only necessary when you actually believe something, and it's only faith when there is no evidence to back up the belief.  Believing that this computer I'm typing on exists does not take faith because I have plenty of evidence for the belief.  Believing a sky-daddy who watches everything you do exists takes faith because you have no evidence for it.  Even atheist who believe a god doesn't exist don't have faith in it, because the evidence supports their belief.

This thread has been interesting to say the least. One thing that can be seen here is that the Bible can be interpreted to support anyone's belief on any position at all depending on how one interprets identical passages or points out seemingly contradictory passages. Conclusion: the Bible is pretty worthless as a guide for moral behavior if it is so easily interpreted is so many vastly different ways. So, perhaps we should rely less on such a divisive document.

I would like to ask those who state that atheism is a religion to please explain how they classify it as such. Especially when the definition of the terms are opposites. I'm just curious. 

2000 years of Christanity have turned their leaders into people that use their position to explot people's ignorance for money and power (i.e. the Reformation and ensuing 30 year war, yeah people never fight wars over religion).

In other words, the exact opposite of what Jesus preached.
