I'd have to say the Lakers.  I live close to the SF bay area and there are plenty of Laker fans everywhere.  What do you call a person who roots for a team that has their favorite players?  For instance I root for the Heat and OKC since Durant and Lebron are currently my favorite players.

"I have noticed that there are many people here who are bandwagon fans, I'm just curious what team has the most fans that jump on the bandwagon?"

Currently? The Celtics and Lakers. There is an entire generation of people that cheer for one or the other simply because those were the two teams that were on TV when they were kids because they were the two best teams. You were either a Magic fan or a Bird fan regardless of whether you had any tie to those teams or not.

I live in Omaha, Nebraska and the ONLY NBA teams that people talk about being fans of on my floor here in the office are the Celtics and the Lakers. And NONE of those people are from New England or LA, so they get my vote.

I agree twocoach.  The reason why I would say it would be the Lakers having the edge is that Boston has close proximity to other notable strong fanbases in New York and Philly, so Boston probably didn't have as much "pull" over surrounding areas the way that the Lakers did.  Another reason that bandwagoners jumped on the Lakers is because, well, it was "Showtime!".  I mean, what kid would choose the fundamentally sound Celtics over a team that was led by a guy named Magic doing no-look passes .

"CL and TLF I agree it is by far and away the Miami Heat, the proof is in the pudding.  Notice how Heat fans won't touch this thread or the topic?"

I cheer for the Heat and have posted here. Maybe people are ignoring it because the nauseating drone of conversation about whether or not someone is a bandwagon fan or not is so boring and repetitious that no one finds it interesting.

Heat bandwagon fans have been growing for three years. Lakers bandwagon fans have been growing for three DECADES. They easily win by a large margin.

A white kid growing up in the midwest like me... My father pointed at "Showtime!" as an example of big mouth showoffs that were cocky and arrogant and at Laker fans as people obsessed with showing how rich they are by being shown on TV in the front rows of games.

There was was no choosing "Showtime" in my house. That wasn't how the game was meant to be played or how people were meant to act.

Population density shows that the white kid growing up in the midwest was and is the minority, though.

But I do see where you are coming from.  Heck the Celtics were my first favorite team when I was 5.  Bird was my favorite player.  I hated Showtime and the Lakers.  Then I grew up, and realized about the age of 10 that I live 30 minutes from Philly and my allegiance should be the Sixers.  Ever since, I am a Sixers fan.

I believe the poster that said the Milwaukee Bucks has no bandwagon fans, and he brings up a great point.  The Bucks have a fan base, the Bucks have a great history.  So why would someone living in Wisconsin not be a Bucks fan?  I remember the old MECCA and that place use to sell out all the time.
I like that his father had his opinion on the Lakers, but Dad never taught his little boy about loyalty to a team.  Maybe it isn't something that is taught in the midwest, though Chicago has a loyal following, and they did have a bunch of bandwagon fans when Jordan played.  Just like the Heat do now.

Couldn't be further from the truth. People who were around to see the Lakers play back then may hear the world showtime and think that those Lakers teams in the 80's were all flash and no substance. Totally false. They were gutty team that played hard, played with class, and played the game the way it was supposed to be played. They were a very sound, fundamental team.

I respected the Celtics back then but if any team came off as cocky and arrongant back then it was the Celtics. From Red Auerbach on down. Players like Cedric Maxwell and ML Carr are two examples. Bird and McHale endlessly talked trash.

As far as the bandwagon thing, some of you guys got it all wrong. Just because someone starts to like a team because that team is good does not make them a bandwagon fan. They are only a bandwagon fan if they jump ship as soon as things aren't going well. A true fan sticks with their team through the good and bad times.

What a clown you are. No one in my family gives a crap about NBA basketball (as is the case for many in the midwest where there were NO TEAMS). I am 3rd generation Kansas Jayhawks and have followed KU my whole life. Any NBA that I followed until relatively recently was to see how former KU players were doing. So you can take my father's name and what he did or did not teach me out of your mouth. I have devoutly followed my team all over the country into some of the most hostile road games imaginable. Being a college basketball fan is FAR more than being an NBA fan. KU basketball is religion. NBA basketball is space filler.

DUH. Every Laker fan sees it your way and every Celtic fan sees it the other way. Pat Riley? Egomaniacal A$$. Magic? Nice to have to explain to your wife and kids that you have HIV because you are so full of yourself that you can't stop screwing roadies. Kurt Rambis? Had no problem flat out knocking a dude OUT if it helped.

Everyone see it through their own team's colored glasses...

Dude that's just plain ignorance on your part. If you think other superstar player weren't and still aren't doing the same damn thing, you're crazy. They have beautiful woman after them all the time. Doesn't make it right, but Magic can't be singled out just because he got extremely unlucky. Also....He found out he had HIV just two months after he was married. If wasn't like he was cheating on his wife and family.

Rambis wasn't cocky or arrogant. That's what we were talking about. Would he knock somebody's head off to get a rebound? Hell yes. He brought a toughness to the Lakers that they needed.

Riley wasn't really arrogant when coaching the Lakers(okay maybe a little) but he became much more so later on with the Knicks, and now especially with the Heat. But the guy has been successful, no doubt about it.

I would agree with what you have stated, I would also call a bandwagon person someone who is a fan of for example, the Tigers, the Red Wings, Lions, oh and then they are Laker fans.  That is clssic bandwagon, is it not?

No, a bandwagon fan is somebody who jumps on the gravy train such as those who became a fan of the Heat when they signed James and Bosh.  I hope you're not taking a shot at me here, Hondo.  I happen to be a fan of the Tigers, Lions and Red Wings but oh then I'm a Celtics fan.  But its always been that way.  Basketball is my favorite sport followed by boxing then football then baseball then hockey.  I'm only really passionate about my favorite sport.  Being from Michigan I tend to throw my support behind Michigan teams with the exception of basketball.  Word.

Ah, the infamous "everyone else is doing it" response. I do not allow my nine year old to use this as justification for poor decisions or actions and I do not accept it from anyone else. I did not say that Magic is the ONLY person that did this whom I am bothered by it, just that it is a reason that I did not and do not cheer for him. Same for Jordan and same for Kobe and now Steve Nash. It's just a problem that I am not willing to overlook.

"Riley wasn't really arrogant when coaching the Lakers(okay maybe a little). "

I'll bet you laughed out loud while you were trying to type this... because you can't geniunely believe this. I am all for supporting your team, but leaving the world of reality is something altogether different. I am the first to admit failures or flaws in people that have played for my favorite teams. It's OK.
