You simply cannot miss 13 foul shots in a game and expect to win especially when you play a team as good as Marquette. The frustrating thing was Pitt actually had a chance to win this game. They had all the momentum going into OT after Patterson hit the game tying 3 at the buzzer and yet they just could not get anything going offensively in OT. Adams had another solid game on defense and there were some questionable calls in this game from Pitt's side in terms of shots not counting and what not but the bottom line is Pitt simply has got to shoot the ball better from the field and at the foul line. Durand Johnson needs to be playing more minutes because he looks like a guy that can knock down big shots at key moments and he is probably one of the more athletic players on the Pitt team that can do many things.
Well I posted here a week ago that they needed to at least split these next 2 games with Gtown and Marquette and they did and they still have a bunch of winnable games coming up on the schedule before they play Louisville and Syracuse back to back games at the end of the month. Going into the Pavillion Wednesday night to play Villanova even though they are a young team like Pitt is not going to be a gimmie or cakewalk for Pitt. But with that being said, hopefully they can put together another Georgetown like performance on the road at Nova Wednesday night and get their record back to 2-3 in the Big East and then you can come back home a week from today and break this home losing streak at the Pete against UConn and get back to even at 3-3 with bottom feeders like Providence and DePaul up next after that. I still think Pitt has a chance to win at least 3 out of these next 4 games if not all 4 of them and go into that Louisville game on Jan 28th at either 5-3 or 4-4 in the Big East. Another big game Wednesday night though at the Pavillion Pitt needs this win badly to get back on track once again...
Bad loss by Pitt. They used to never lose at home. Growing pains?
Adams needs alot of work, especially on his free throws. He can hit the rim, but that's about it. It's just not that hard to make a free throw once in awhile. It didn't help that Woodall couldn't play most of the game. Could of been a win and that one hurts to be 1-3 in the Big East, especially when it's a home game. You HAVE TO WIN the home games in the Big East.
It was another bad loss against Marquette today. They were never really in this one. Somehow, Marquette seems to have something on the Panthers .... especially on thier court (which I guess is somewhat normal in the Big East). A win today would have really put the Panthers in a good place. They are exceeding most people's expectations, though. I think they could win out from here .... possibly one more loss. I worry about St John's more than Notre Dame.
Surely, they will get a BE Tourney bye. Surely, they are in the Big Dance.
I agree it wasnt a very good game yesterday from the start. Pitt hung in there for the most part early on in the game and for most of the first half but that 11-2 run Marquette went on to end the half to go up 13 was just way too much for Pitt to overcome. Vander Blue was just lights out in the 1st half and Marquette shot 61 percent from the field which is ridiculous and hard for any team to be able to overcome. The bottom line is a loss here isnt the end of the world by any stretch. I had posted on here the last few days that Pitt just wasnt going to win every single game they play the rest of the way and would hit another bump in the road or two and they most likely probably will once again. The way things set up now Pitt is probably going to be a 4 or 5 seed going into the NCCA tourney as long as they dont have anymore bad losses along the way and win at least 1 game in the Big East tournament. I dont think this loss will drop Pitt much in the polls either but this game at home Monday night with the Irish is going to be a huge huge game. Both Pitt and ND have the same overall record at 20-6 and the same Big East record at 8-5 so this is a huge swing game for both teams. I like Pitt at home in a very hard fought tight game. A win here at home against the Irish can make Pitt put this loss they had against Marquette behind them rather quickly which is why it's very important that they bounce back and win this game as they finish up with 4 very winnable games against St John's,South Florida,Villanova and Depaul to close out the season...<br />
