And the big free agent signing is... Drum roll...

In my eyes, there have only been three signings that have any potential of helpng the Mets this season...

Marcum, Brown, Atchison

Net games won if all three have decent seasons...+7

MrB, They are roster replacements for players from last year who are no longer with the team, but I don't know how you calculated the net 7 wins. If you compared them to our 3 worse players in terms of WAR; Pedro Beato, Chris Young and Bay, they are a net 3.9 games improvement. However if the names of R.A. Dickey, Scott Hairston and Jon Rauch are compared Marcum-Brown-Atchison are a net minus 4.3 games.

MrB, Using WAR they are a net 3.9 games better than Pedro Beato, Bay, and Chris Young. However use the names R.A. Dickey, Scott Hairston and Rauch the Atchison-Brown-Marcum replacements fall to a minus 4.3 games.

Yogi...nothing so scientific...I just figure if all three players play well, the Mets win about 7 mores games than they would of without them...most of it belongs to Marcum...

Add on a good year from Harvey and 10-12 good starts from Wheeler and you can add on another 8-10 wins...

So now they almost make back the 20 wins from Dickey last year...still not a .500 team though...

Looks like we may have a new potential closer...

NY Mets nearing deal with veteran reliever Brandon Lyon, according to team sources

The Mets were confident that they were close to a deal with veteran reliever Brandon Lyon, even as a major league source said that Lyon was still negotiating with other teams.

Two team insiders said the Mets expected to sign Lyon, 33, a move that would likely round out their bullpen. In 67 appearances for Houston and Toronto last year, Lyon was 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He saved 26 games for Arizona in 2008.

If the deal is completed — and multiple sources said that it would be — Lyon would join veteran LaTroy Hawkins as new additions to a pen that includes Frank Francisco, Bobby Parnell and Josh Edgin. Other candidates include Jeurys Familia, Jenrry Mejia, and the recently signed Scott Atchison and Pedro Feliciano.

GM Sandy Alderson has had doubts this winter in Francisco’s ability to close games, indicating that Parnell and perhaps others will compete during spring training for the ninth-inning job.

“Coming out of last season, looking with what Frankie has been dealing with in the offseason as far as his elbow is concerned, I don’t know that we could have a lot of confidence in where we are,” Alderson said on SNY last week.

Sorry, bad format. Lyon is a decent pickup though if it goes through.

I'm split on the Lyon signing. It makes me feel sort of ridiculous but sometimes fantasy baseball memories just give me a bad feeling about a player and Lyon is one of those. Still though really looking at his stats over the years, he's really either on or not.

Really it seems that when he's given the closer job he performs well, and it's just when he's a part-time closer that he's bad. Old memories die hard and I think of Lyon as being the guy who went 0/7 in save chances back in 2006. He also only went 4/8 in 2001 and 1/3 in the last two seasons.

However when full-time he's been very good. 14/15 in 2005, 26/31 in 2008 and 20/22 in 2010.

Hey who knows, at least he has closer experience and should be an improvement over Francisco.

Mets signed LF Mike Wilson today to a minor league contract. Yet another .240 hitter and that was for triple A Tacoma
