Thoughts on the D-line

No offense intended but thinking we are one QB, a couple of coaches, and an inside linebacker away from being 'good'...that's what got Scott Pioli fired.
I heard it with my own ears. He said it. "We have 3 good QB's" Pioli got fired because his right 53 couldn't compete and he wouldn't admit or correct it.

They were on the field this season more then any other defense in football! 3 n outs contribute to that.
NO they were not....the Chiefs Time of Possession was 30 minutes plus....2.5 minutes behind the #1 Team in ToP Houston.  They had the 3rd lowest # of offensive plays ran against them......They allowed 4.5 yds per rush and allowed the highest yardage per reception at 13.2 yds per reception.

The defensive line sucks....and if they are stopping the run, well you can always throw it to your RBs and TEs because the Chiefs can't cover anybody with their LBs and Safeties.

Ganja....we think a lot alike.  I see a defense that did only one thing okay....limited receptions to WRs.  I see a defense with a Free Safety that is always three steps to the ball slow.  He has no instincts.  I see a strong Safety who can tackle but does have problems covering people in space (RBs & TEs).  I see a defense with no pass rush other than the two OLBs.  I beleive that they played all season with out an ILB opposite DJ....because neither of those two guys showed up to play in most games.  I see one good corner.  They were a better defense last year with Palko at QB and no Jamaal.

I must have read the numbers wrong I apologize, but back to my point you cant expect Tyson Jackson to be Seymour, or Neil Smith. Yes, he was drafted to high we all know this but you cant blame him for the reason this team sucked.

You have to understand I do respect everything said on here I just dont think every team is set at every position on the field and we can't expect the Chiefs to be either. I mis-typed what I was saying. I do believe adding a QB automatically puts this team in the middle of the pack. Adding the other pieces is what will set us apart. If you dont think this team could have won 6-7-8 games possible last season with a respected QB then fine, but I am not putting this all on our defense. Yes they had slip ups, we had an odd season with the completely dissapointing play, along with the Jovan Belcher situation.

Why does everyone want to blame the Offense so much? Guys, it started Week 1. Cassel played as good as anyone could expect the first half and the Chiefs Defense couldn't get off the field. The D didn't force a punt until 4 minutes were left in the game. Week 2, they let Spiller run wild early and the tone was set. A couple fumbles later the game was out of hand.

For the season the Chiefs D was tied with Dallas for the fewest INT's (7) in the league, tied for 25th in the league in fumbles recovered and was the 4th worst team in sacks. AND, they were tied for 2nd in the most runs allowed over 20 yards. It was a group effort and the D should not be let off the hook for how the season unfolded.

It's easy for a team to be conservative, run the ball nearly every down, and not turn the ball over when they are up by 2+ touchdowns.  Our offense was terrible.  Stats can be misleading.  You have to understand the score and situation.

Agree A_NATION. The Chiefs were behind so much teams ran the ball more trying to run the clock. I'm not saying we have a top 5 D-line but I do think the numbers can be construed to make them look worse than they are.

...Yeah how did they get up by two tds to begin with, the defense aint that good.  Look, the stats don't lie....bad defense, bad offense; 2-14 record.  The most telling stat that belies that arguement Nation is the fact that the Defense was terrible against the pass also.  They allowed the 3rd most yardage per completion.  What this says is even if they stopped the run, they could not stop the pass and a high percentage of that yardage was against the LBs and the Safeties.  One corner...no ILBs...no safeties were good against the pass.  They were tied with Dallas as the team with the least Passes  Defended or intercepted...32nd in the league.

You can't throw out every stat or discount them all just because they don't support an argument.

Only Pitts and Seattle's D were on the field for less snaps. Like Budah has said, ONLY 2 teams gave up more yards per completion. They couldn't get pressure on the QB and they couldn't defend the checkdowns to the RB's and TE's. The Chiefs D gave up an average QB rating of 99.9. The WORST in the league! That's like playing a Manning or Rodgers EVERY week. What is misleading about that?

Yes, the Offense stunk, but putting it all on them and defending the D is silly. When you don't get sacks, you don't force turnovers and you give up big plays time after time, you are not going to have much success.
