HALLELUJAH!!! 2

The Chargers came under fire today by the NFLPA because of their doctor!!! The NFLPA is asking...closer to demanding that the Chargers fire Dr. Chao and hire a competent medical doctor...something I've long lobbied for. Here's a couple of links...

It really makes you wonder what the heck is going on in the front office when the team tries to retain a doctor of such ill refute.  Brings back memories of the drug scandels in the 70s and 80s.  This certainly reflects badly on the Spanos family in my opinion.

Believe it or not... Dr. James Chao performed surgery on me 2 years ago.  He attatched a vein to an artery (fistula) in order for me to receive plasma pheresis treatments.  Nice guy and an excellent job with the surgery.  Weird... I had never connected the name before today.  Should have hit him up for some Chargers tix.

He was also a pioneer of sorts in the 90's for Sports Medicine and changed some of the workout programs to better suit professional athletes - one of the reasons the Chargers picked him up.  He really isn't a quack - but maybe he started getting lazy once the gravy train hit?

I don't know what it is about being the Chargers doctor, but there's a jinx or something once they hire you. I too actually had four shoulder surgeries performed by a former Chargers doctor, Dr. Gary Losse. Best doctor by far I've ever had. Took him 30 seconds to determine my problem, then sent me to SDSU, who at the time had one of three MRI scanners in the state of California to get his diagnosis confirmed. It was weird if you ever had a MRI back in those days compared to today. They had to house it in a huge building and the thing was literally gigantic with this little hole in it. Anyhow, today my shoulders are fine, probably better than most my age, in fact. The funny thing is that Losse was the doctor who actually initially developed both the procedure and invented and designed the tools for shoulder arthoscopies. Until he did, they only performed arthroscopies on knees. Both of my shoulders were really torn up. In fact, they were so bad, and so odd, that he had me sign a waiver so he could send videos of his surgeries to other doctors and universities. Now, I'm wondering if I maybe should have asked if he wasn't making money off them and asked for a royalty fee Cool At any rate, somewhere my shoulders became famous...even if I didn't.

You know, this got me to wondering so I just did a quick search and found this very, very interesting article from the UT. An interesting read about our medical staff past and present.

Looks like Rumors are pointing to Chao being cleared, and subsequently retained by the bolts.  I am pretty sure thats not a good idea...

I'm beginning to get really tired of cbssports message board ERRORS in posting. If you make the mistake of pre-typing your post in MS Word instead of Notepad, like I try to do in order not to have to retype everything again then you get a bunch of hard to read hieroglyphics included in your post. I don't have these problems on the other boards I visit, and the have way less money than CBS.

At any rate, AZ, to reply to you again, I did see that a few days ago. However, a day or two later the NFLPA came out and stated they are still not satisfied and are concerned the Chargers players are not getting the best medical treatment they deserve.

Yeah - I saw that too. What I do not fully understand is the power of the NFLPA in being able to make this type of demand and have it stick. They can probably complain, but there is a lot of support for Chao too. I actually own some of his sports trianing books and love the approaches, so I think the guy knows what he is doing on many levels.

I guess I just want to see the final results - in or out?    Out is probably the right call all things considered.  Change is not always bad.
