So we all know that early in season this team had success.  And we all know what's going on right now...

Queston is why??

Well IMO I remember those early games having good defense consistenly, but the most important thing I remember is that we moved the ball very well and took open/good shots.  The rythmn we had was just great and we weren't missing alot of shots.

Last night against Sparty, I saw the old Illinois team shooting quick shots as soon as they got across the halfcourt line.  These quick shots are a result of bad discipline and impatience.  I don't see the ball movement, the players moving without the ball, and I hardly see Abrams putting it on the floor and taking it to the rack or dishing at all.  It's a stagnent, slow moving offense (going through the motions) and I hope Groce goes back and watches the tapes from the games early in the season.    Those early games were great because we moved the ball quick in a half court offense and with a purpose.

And why is Betrand not playing more?  Henry?  Those are 2 good athletes!  It's time to empty the bench and sit a few guys if they need it.

Cool

Ok I can see everyone loved this thread.  And now FEB has hit and we took down IU at home and Minny no the road.  It's all about ending strong.  Maybe they found something and can run with it.

It's all about defense and quick runouts.  Looking at the Indiana game it was a our defense that won that game for us, despite Indiana shooting 50% from the field and shooting 60% from 3pt range up until about 8 minutes to go we still found a way to win.  I think we forced 16 turnovers while only committing 7?

Tracy and Griffey have been the key I believe in the last two games in conjunction with just good all around effort from everyone else. Paul is still slumping, but man has DJ kicked up into high gear over his last 6 games.  Egwu needs to learn to stick with the quick hook shot.  He's too hesitant, his strenth is catch and shoot.  He also needs to work on footwork and muscle for next year to help improve his game when his back is to the basket.  He plays such great defense when he stays out of foul trouble though and gives us a chance.
