Something needs to change.

Are you stupid or something?  Did you eat paint chips as a kid?  You can't replay a judgment call.  That's why they call it a judgement call.  Your judgement may be different, but then again, YOU'RE NOT AN OFFICIAL.

I rarely call anyone names, but you're a moron.

Replay for penalties???

February 5, 2013 9:59 am

THAT MAY HAPPEN AFTER THIS AND ALSO SEATTLE/PITTSBURGH.

It has been several years now since the Pitt/Seattle Super Bowl.  But I cannot think of a single penalty that would have been overturned or changed, even with replay.  At best for those folks who still want to whine about that game, the calls were unusual and/or ticky tack.  But they were still penalties.

What Seattle and the Niners should have done is make more plays.  Maybe then they would have won.  Everyone needs to stop blaming the refs when they lose.  I know that there are Steelers fans out there too, myself included, who complain about refs at times. But in the end, your team just didn't make enough plays if you lose.  Everyone needs to stop looking for excuses when their team loses a game.

There does not need to be replay for penalties.  That is just stupid.

One thing that I would like to see when it comes to penalties in the NFL though is for them to change the pass interference penalty to 15 yards instead of the spot of the foul, unless it is less than a 15 yeard attempt.  These 60 yard penalties for as tight as they call the games now are ridiculous.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!

The NFL agreed to Jim Harbaugh's request that the play in question be reviewed. It was determined that the play in question was indeed a penalty. Jim Harbaugh was very pleased with the result, and the Niners were then awarded a TD because it's assumed they would have scored anyway. Harbaugh also argued that they would have used up the clock and forced Baltimore to waste their timeouts, so Baltimore would have had only 30 seconds to move down for a game-tying FG... as Harbaugh also contested that a 2 point conversion was a gimme. Harbaugh completely agreed with the NFL's assessment. He was on the verge of issuing a press conference proclaiming that justice had been served...

However, in the spirit of fairness that Jim Harbaugh asked for, the NFL also reviewed a 2nd quarter play where Culliver interfered with and grabbed Torrey Smith preventing an easy TD catch. Instead of a punt, the Ravens were awarded a TD because it was also considered automatic like the Niner's score was. Harbaugh was incensedFurthermore, the running into the kicker penalty was reviewed as well. It was determined no contact was made and that Akers flopped to draw the call. The FG miss stood and 3 points were revoked.

Word is that Jim Harbaugh has cancelled his press conference on proclaiming justice. He's in the process of scheduling another press conference bitching and moaning that this is sooooooo unfair. The NFL offered to go back and review the NFCCG as well, but Harbaugh said there was no need for that. The end result of that game was perfectly fair to him.

The end result stays the same and the Ravens actually gain 3 points.... Hmmm, I guess this wasn't really breaking news since the Ravens still won.

Oh well. Life goes on.

Nooooooooooo

I wish they would get rid of Insant Replay all together. In all sports. It's a time-consuming joke. Train your officials better.

Know a lot about momentum, football or otheriwse.......last time I checked original defnition from physics = impetus gained by moving object = niners scoring their first touchdown of game = change in momentum, not a freakin' extended time out i.e. power outage.  Just so happened two unrelated events coincided. Again, with no power outage, niners proved they could come back and change the momentum themselves, thankyou very much..

Oh, you must mean the drive that was extended in the first place by a clearly, irrefutably INCOMPLETE pass???? just checking ;-)

What do you think?

I think you need to stop crying and get over how your team screwed up the last 4 plays of the game.

Replay for penalties???

What do you think?

No way

This is why instant replay was removed from the game for a few years. The officials become incapable of officiating the game. The game stops to look for PI or holding were insane. All a coach had to was lunch on the sideline and the officials ran off to the booth looking for a penalty

You'd be out of challenges after 8 minutes in the first quarter.

And this. There are elements of human error that simply cannot be removed from the game

And that first TD just so happened to come after the stoppage.

Please. The Niners were sloppy all game, and then all of a sudden they score on 4 straight drives, 3 of them TDs. And damn near scored on their 5th and final drive after the stoppage.

It was night and day for how their offense looked before and after the stoppage. To say it had NOTHING to do with it is just unbelievable.

Disagree 100%.  Power outage had nothing to do with comeback-ravens age + fact niners adrenaline finally kicking was reason = coincidental events.
No way. The 49ers were reeling. Brian Billick said that giving up a TD on the 2nd half kickoff wss the worst thing that could have happened to the 49ers. The 49ers were down for the count and woozy. The power failure gave them 34 minutes to get their faculties back, calm down, and make new plans. If they didn't have that extra time to fix their attitude and plan a new strategy, no way would they stage a comeback the way they were moping around with their heads down.

That 34 minutes was just what the team needed to shuck off the beatdown and get into the game again. The break also also hurt the Ravens, who did not want a break in the action while they were having their way with the 49ers, who could do absolutely nothing to stop the beating. The power outage brought the 49ers back from the dead, took away the rush the Ravens were on, and almost completely turned the game around.

Saved by the Bell is a real thing in sports (and a terrible TV show), and a fluke power outage "bell" worked greatly to the 49ers advantage.

The power outage was just an equalizer for the earlier change in momentum in LaMichael James fumble...  It should not have been a fumble, the refs missed the face masking call...   so both teams were given momentum that should not have happened... therefore it is not a big deal...

That fumble was a clear face masking penalty
Did you come to that conclusion all by yourself cause the replay there is not even close to enough evidence to prove that you saw a facemask.  I see his hand on the helmet but in no way can I tell if its a facemask or not.  Its absolutely hilarious what people choose and choose not to see.

And for anyone to think the power outage didn't severely help the 49ers, then you are severely delusional.

It should not have been a fumble,
Clearly a fumble.  Again what people choose and choose not to see.  His forward progress was not even close to being stopped.  How can anyone look at that play in real time and think it wasn't a fumble.

its funny how niners fans are complaining about this when in 2002 the Giants had a bad snap on a FG attempt to win the game against san fran.. the ball was thrown down field and the guy on the niners tackled a giants player a few seconds before the ball was there and no flag was thrown.. not so fun being on the other side of it huh

It would be funny if this scenario allowed for such a call

It was later explained that there is no interference that can be called on a play that unfolds like that

It looks bad, sounds good, but the rule book says otherwise

Even though Eli has 2 rings/mvps I don't care who's better than who.
All I know is San Fran didn't win jack the last two years and the collective tears of all their "fans" makes me feel all tingly inside.
