Recruiting Update 2/5/13

February 6, 2013 1:27 pm

So far, looks like, Folston aside, we had zero defections (not counting Anzalone).  A huge sigh of relief from last year.  I guess there's still a shot at Vanderdoes, but I also heard there was a foul up and ND put out a release saying he signed.  Vanderdoes took to twitter and voiced his frustration at such reports, which if you're the paranoid sort, could read into him turning off to us if its really that close between UCLA and us.  All the chatter trended that we may yet land him, I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Of course I recall the NSD drama with Davonte Neal, he was going to sign, he wasn't, his press conference was delayed, he was arguing with his dad, and then ultimately signed with us.  Sounds like more of the same, and this circus may help sell website subscriptions, but isn't really healthy for all involved, players, coaches or fans.

Assuming status quo, still a very strong class.  Assuming we lose Foston, that will be a disappointment, but still a solid class.  Getting Vanderdoes is good for momentum, but not a huge let down IMO.

Anyway, almost as sweet is watching the USC class implode in the last 48 hours.  Apprently, they are down to 12 commitments, Issac not among them, and of the six who could have faxed it in but have not yet done so, only a couple reside within California, so its not a time zone thing, some of these guys sound like they're getting cold feet.  They'll still have their class of mercenaries consisting entirely of 4 and 5* guys, but they are going to have a huge depth problem with a class like this.

Interesting side note too, there was a video I saw on ND Nation yesterday interviewing recruits and the crazy things that go on during the process.  Issac was a bit too candid maybe and let slip that he's been offered a car (he didn't say by whom, but being committed to USC for a while now, one wonders).  If the NCAA has any sense left, they'll probably want to talk to Ty about that one.

And now all we are waiting for is D-Lineman E Vanderdoes.Once his LOI is in hand,ND will have finished one of its greatest recruiting classes in over 20 yrs. There is alot of talent at key positions, some places 2 deep. And even though last yrs. team went undefeated during regular season,I see some of these guys having significant roles right away.

Yes,it was a great job by the ND recruiters.Even though the ND Football team helped itself with great play on the field, the recruiters still had to go out and get these kids to come to ND....

Deontay Greenbury and U of Houston--He and the team had a below-amazing year.
