I knew I like Mark Buehrle

February 7, 2013 12:00 pm

Back in November we learned of the dog dilemma faced by Mark Buehrle‘s family. They have a pit bull, but Ontatio has outlawed pit bull ownership. This meant either getting rid of the dog or Buehrle’s family not joining him in Toronto when the Blue Jays’ season starts.

Jerry Crasnick reports that the family is going to leave Mark on his own:

Mark will spend his 14th big league season in Canada while Jamie lives more than 800 miles away with 5-year-old son Braden, 3-year-old daughter Brooklyn, Slater and the family’s three vizslas, Drake, Diesel and Duke. As the family settles in for spring training in Dunedin, Fla., Buehrle is struggling to accept the idea that togetherness is short-lived and he will be coming home to an empty house in April.

Pets can be well more than pets to some people like myself.  They are family members.

Yep.  There are still people stupid enough in this world to think that most or all "power breed" dogs are menacing killers.

A sad but good example Bulldog.  My under-educated $ .02 guess on this would be that the dog was abused early in its life.  I know my dog picked up some bad habits and traits in the year he was alive before we got him, and some still register 9 years later, no matter how well we treat him.

It's not nature that makes a dog bad, it's nurture.

I dont believe that totally that ist fully nurture, i am sure that there is such thing as a bad dog... the only thing i know for sure is that it is not breed related...

It's really a result of the owner of said dog.  A lot of dogs who are considered "terrible" and bad really are ok if the owner treats them well and exposes them to actual humans.  Doesn't mean it's not in the dogs to be mean but for the most part they can be "trained" to be good.

This isnt true in dogs , dogs are a lot more nature than nurture . Dog breds that have been breed for a certain character trait will not be nurtured away from these traits . Even the chitty american show dogs have some of these traits still in them .

Wrong , are you telling me a golden retriever and a pitbull are both just as likely to want to fight other dogs ? I think the biggest problem we have with dogs is not understanding them enough .

Welp, everything, to sacrifices so much for a dog. Sorry, to me a dog is a pet. Nothing more, nothing less. Doesn't mean I want them to be beaten or being abused, or anything like that. But, they are just a dog.

well, that may be true but I guarantee you a dog with an abusive owner is more likely to fight than a dog without.

Not taken, especially as you seem to be becoming a poster I really like interacting with.  For me, especially lately, good new to me posters seem to be hard to find.
