Does Frazier deserve to get a long term extension on his contract or should the braintrust give him a short 1 or 2 year agreement to further prove himself?

The players appear to really like him and play hard for him but IMO he needs to be more aggressive in his approach to coaching the team.

I like the guy but am really not sold on him yet!! THOUGHTS.....

Peterson is the reason we made the playoffs, not the coaches.

The play calling in the wild card game was terrible. Webb should have been running alot more and Rudolph (best hands on team) should have been passed to more than three times (he caught each one).

More aggressive?  If you don't have any to begin with, more is out of the question. I really don't think he did any better this year than he did last year. With out Peterson and a stout 2012 draft, we would be talking about another guy.

I really think you have to at this point even though I'm not sold yet he's the long term answer. I agree AD had alot to do with our success but IMO the lack of injuries was probably the biggest reason for a turn around. We had a very good year injury wise. The thing I did like about Frazier was he went for a few 4th downs in a few games on plays alot of coaches would not have. I like an aggreesive coach in that area so that was a big plus for me. I have complained about coaching in the past but this year IMO they made some nice strides as the year went on (exception...the play off game with Webb). The offensive play calling IMO was more about Ponder and trying to play to his strengths which are limited than it was about the coaches. The biggest question mark IMO about Frazier or any chead coach for that matter is knowing when your QB can or can't get you to where you want to go....can they execute the offence the way it needs to be to be successful. We have a very tough schedule next year, add in we lose a home game when you travel over seas and it's going to be real challenging. How Ponder developes or not and how Fraziers prepares and handles it will make my mind up about Frazier.

As far as giving him a long term extension I think you have to......it's about results and we finished 10-6, 4 game winning streak to make the play offs and won 3 divisional games. The run game was better this year, the O-Line was better this year, the defence as a whole was much better same goes for special teams. The only area that was a disappointment was Ponder. As much as it would be great to give him 1 or 2 year agreement I think he's earned better and would be a slap in the face not to give him one.

Coach Frazier reminds me a lot of Tony Dungy.  We let Tony get away without knowing what we had.  What a mistake that was, Dungy built that Tampa Bay team and Chucky got the credit.  Then he goes on to win a ring with the Colts.   I'm not saying Frazier is going to win every where he goes.  I just think we should wait and see what he can do.  The plan was to give lots of short term contracts to young guys on the up and up.  I say give Frazier a three year deal.  That should be enough time to see where the team is and give him some time to develop.  Besides, the players really responded to him.  We could also get him pretty cheap.

In todays NFL I don't think many warrant long term deals, players or coach's.With that being said,I do like what he has done in his short time and believe he should be retained.Imo he has been able to accomplish two things that are integral to/for a winning team.He has instilled both a winning attitude, and team unity..Other bonus's include a 4 game win streak at the end of the year,a sign that everyone is getting on the same page??.And something else that is very important and appearently very evident is that the players like/respect him,it is amazing how much more a player can/will give if he has his coach's back.So with many positives on his side I would offer him a 3 year deal comparitive to other young coach's.
As far as his play-calling in the playoff game, once Webb showed he had NO CLUE how to throw a football/complete a pass, there were no running lanes for anyone including Webb. And if there is a knock on Frazier it would be that he didn't have the team ready to play with a back-up qb in a playoff situation, knowing during the week that that might be the scenario. But after the year they had,I give everyone a pass for the playoff debacle.
Obviously Viking ownership/gm have a better understanding of whether or not he is the right "man for the job",and hopefully they can get something done where everyone is happy..  Go Vikes...

Go for the two year deal.  I think he will see where this is going.  I think he has done a good job so far but not enough to warrent a long term deal.  Go Vikings!

I think this was a good move on our part.  He did a great job this year with all the young guys.  I'm sure we got him for a great price, now its time to earn his money.

I thought he did well managing the whole team.  Play calling doesn't make a great head coach, IMO.  Getting the respect from your team and leading does, and I felt he did that.  His OC is the coach most should be upset with.  Fraizer is a DC root, so it wasn't like he could have taken over play calling. Hope this works out, I always felt he had the demeanor to be a good head coach.

I think this settles one area and atleast Frazier can feel a little more secure.......On the OC, I'm giving him a pass....I want to see what he can do with a real QB....hopefully we get one soon.

Well....it looks like it's only a 1 year extention....Not the long term he was probably hoping for. In away I like this....this next season we need to get the QB situation figured out and that position is going to have alot to say in how this team does. We are going to have one of the toughest schedules we have had in awhile. AFC North and NFC East...only 7 home games and one of the away is in Seattle. If Frazier and this team can be successful next season like this one then he'll definitely be in line for a long term deal. Better bring in a really good back up Frazier...

Do you really think its that simple Mary Jane? It might be just a tad easier extending the head coaches contract that giving a huge extension to a player that reports say doesn't want to be a Viking

I like that its a 1 year extension. I do think he has improved as a coach a lot but I'm not completely sold on him. He's only had the 1 good year so far.

I will echo umn's and pretty much everyone else's thoughts that the 1 year extention was very smart.  Something I had hoped they do.  Things can turn sour so fast, and they did after Childress signed that lengthy extention.  I think our FO has learned this..... from their own mistakes.  And Fraizer is classy enough to accept a 1 year extention.  Seriously this makes me appreciate him even more.  No stories weeks long about extending them.  He took a 1 year extention like a fresh grad out of college.  I hope he is allowed some say into his OC and DC in the future, though because they are VERY questionable.  I like this signing because it just seemed like there was NOTHING bad said about Fraizer from a player stand point (besides the Harvin blow up which I think he handled it better than any coach could, something I admire) the only thing bad said was play calling, which goes on the shoulders of the OC cause a defensive HC doesn't call plays...ever.  HC need the backing of the team, he probably got it, but I hope those same players said something about a few BS OC play calling.  Forget the play calling of genius HC like Belicheck because they are not common.  Fraizer has appeared to be a steady leader.  Besides offensive play calling... something fraizer knows nothing about.  Can the Fraizer haters tell me what else he does wrong that makes him fireable?  Cause I don't see it.     Forgive the lengthy run on sentenced post.
