A weight limit in the NFL?

February 11, 2013 8:25 am

I don't remember, I think I  just did. I was really happy this name was taken. I was sure it would be long gone. Seems every time I signed up to something you have make a user ID, what I wanted was gone.

fair enough, but when you look at the size of some of today's players, they dwarft the players from yester years. They are bigger and stronger. I think lets take away the size part of the equation, and it should help bring down the strength part too. Add that with better equipment, smarter players....

Yeah I am not sure either, I tried and all I got was error messages stating I couldn't do it.

yes but this is a different game then in years past.  I mean technology is greater, there are more "supplemants" out there in todays world for players to take.  Also society wants people to be bigger and stronger then they were back in the good old days.  Yes players are "big" but even those "big" players have more muscle then in years past.

Weight limits would never work. It's not the 320 pound linemen that cause the worst damage, it's the 200-230 pound safeties and linebackers who usually hit with the greatest impact and cause the most injuries.

A minimum or maximum weight limit?

Because Trindon Holliday dying on the field is more likely than Aaron Gibson or Michael Jasper hurting anyone

The sport doesn't need to be safer

If guys don't want to get hurt, don't play - Period

Nobody's holding a gun to their head to play

I'm all for it if they're going to hunt down whine-tards like you and the OP

The way I see it people like you and the OP are ruining the game with the 'save them from themselves' mentality. It's a rough game. Guys are going to get hurt and f'd up while making a lot of money. Don't want that? Don't play football. Are we clear, princess?

The Iron Horse = Ftballgenuis

This is bar none the DUMBEST thread ever

Uh-oh, I think you used up all your amo on that one. Please stop yourself, if insults were weapons, you are attacking me with a plastic spork. Wow, that is the best you can do? Comparing me to Ftbidiot? Oh no! My ego has been destroyed, like your butt was, whenever the local YMCA basketball team got done using it. Save it son, no more PMs telling me that you became a Raiders fan because Al Davis stuck two fingers up your ass. And no, no matter how hard you try to spin it, that does not qualify as you lossing your virginity. You are the hypocrite here, let's take account, shall we? You insulted me first, not once, but twice. Then I return fire, and it seems that it hurt your feelings so much that you have posted non-stop here trying to heal your bruised ego. You wrote that an Internet Tough guy stalks, well, you keep posting here. Is that not stalking? Oh no you say, cause it has to be mutliple threads? So you get off on a technicality? Face it, you are out of your league son. Your verbal jabs are as weak, as melted butter. Your best move is, to move on. You haven't brought anything to the table, except your nonsensical dribble.

of course it does to you. You know what has never been said in the history of humanity? "Boy, those guys over at the CBS NFL board sure are smart". Thanks for the great input. If you don't think the idea would work, at least give a reason. I know for you that means, putting down the bag of glue for a whole hour, but you can do it.

Alright, but here is a question. Why is it okay in Pee-Wee league to have a weight limit, but not in the pros? I think the idea is still the same, helping protect the players. I get that we want bigger, stronger and faster. but what has not caught up is our bones, and their abilities to take a collision.

And kudos to you for being civil, and actually being able to maintain a debate without having to resort to silly insults. It is a rare trait in this board for sure.

there is validity to this statement. Still, if you can curb some of the impact from the bigger guys, even if its a little, it is still a step torwards the right direction.

Hey Iron Horse, you stopped responding after this:

likewise buddy, spending an entire hour looking up the weight of every starting NFL QB over a hypothetical?
So now its just a hypothetical. I see. Earlier you implied that the only reason it wouldn't work is because people like me weren't progressive enough for your amazing new ideas. It took me about ten minutes of my time to completely obliterate your little folly of an idea, so now you downplay it like it was only a hypothetical and you were never seriously suggesting it to begin with.

Please feel free to explain yourself.

you are so narrow minded, is incredible you are still alive. You think the NFL will survive as is? Hell no, dumb players go broke all the time, and are looking for money. Lets sue the NFL, I am not saying the players are right, but they will try to get the money. And if the NFL doesn't start and make some drastic changes, the NFL will go the way of the dodo bird.
