New helmet

My new avatar is a photo of what is supposed to be a new helmet option for WVU...  leaked by Shelton Gibson.

Any opinions?  Reminds me a lot of the old helmets worn by Ollie back in '79 era...   just flying WV instead of state outline.  

Personally I'm still waiting on a black one!  

I read online that the white one isn't actually something the team will be wearing. It's supposedly a miniature helmet sold by some sporting goods company in Hawaii.

I hope that is all it is.  Looks too much like the Miami Hurricanes to me.

Interesting.  Are you sure it's this same white one?  The source it came from could have been making an assumption on this one...  but usually VERY reliable.

That's what I was thinking.  White on white has become one of my more preferred uni's...  would look good with the white helmet, me thinks.

I know there are a lot of "traditionalists" here who like the old Nehlen era blue on gold.  I like the all blue the best probably.  I have grown to like the canary suits when saved for a Gold Rush night home games.  HATED the grey this past season!  But for away games, I like the white on white and like the white helmet to wear occasionally.

I prefer the old blue with the gold flying WV.  I was never a fan of the banana unis and the grey was awful expecially the helmets. That helmet beats those.  I did like the Nike pro coal mine theme we had against sPitt two years ago.  We should use them more.

The white on white with the new helmet should look good for away games. 

For those who are younger and dont know the History.  WVU has not used the White on White because years ago it was Penn States uniform known nation wide as "White Hats and Black Shoes.  Sooo to avoid any conflict with them over Uniforms WVU stayed away from the all white Uniforms with a white helmet.  I myself prefer the Dark Blue with the Golden Flying WV and dont mind the All Golden Uniforms but would go with a Golden Helmet with a Dark Blue Flying WV.  Also I dont know if they changed it yet but for the longest time there was never any names on the uniforms of the Penn State Players either.  At first I did not care for the all Gray but have grown to like it as I did the Nikie Coal helmet.

I have yet to see anything about this new helmet, but I like it with the all white unis.  I have always thought the blue one looks out of place on those uniforms.  After all, the good guys always wear the white hats, don't they? 


As for the PSU issue. since we no longer play them, I think we can put that behind us.  At least we all know what Nittany means now.

We don't have them anymore. That was a one-season thing. That being said, I agree...those were really sharp-looking! I wish Nike would do something similar again. Either way, I'm glad we're experimenting with new looks (I was a fan of the greys...still HATE the mustard uni's). Kids love them, and getting the attention of recruits that can help us win is never a bad thing.

I love the white helmets... if its with the right color scheme..

We all have our favorites but it doesnt really matter what we think... its what the kids think...

and we have heard Dana... the players... and recruits all comment on how important it is to have different color combos...
