So the Packers are just over the cap, you take out Driver's contract and i believe their under cap. You then figure they save money with Saturday retiring and assuming they don't resign Jennings, also restructure or cut Finley,Woodson and Hawk.

I figure they wait to see what type of year Raji has before signing him long term, same might go for Mathews he'll get paid but the yearly Hamstring injury might make them cautious thou. Rodgers deal will get done, probably during the year.

So what i'm getting at is i think the Packers might have some cap room to play with.

Biggest needs for FA or draft

1) Figure out LT if you have one in house or not.

2) ILB, need more talent

3) Safety both positions, same as ILB

4) DE, need depth Pickett aging and Wilson just ok. Hoping Worthy and Daniels come back stong. Here's where i can see maybe bringing in a big body in FA, maybe an older vet on a 1 year deal.

5) Figure out Center, i'm thinking drafting one mid round.

6) Figure out RB position i figure mid round pick here too.

7) Depth at WR and TE, later rd draft or FA

Haven't seen who is all going to available in FA just yet, so no ideas of who to go after just yet.

Don't hold your breath.  T squared has already demonstrated that he is not a big fan of free agency and I don't expect him to shift gears this season.

Packerzrule,

Not thinking TT is going to make a huge splash, but maybe a big body DT or a veteran S. I really think we could use some experience in the secondary.
Not sure we can get the ILB help i think we desperate need in FA, really hoping ILB in first 2 rounds.

I don't think we can afford or do i think TT will spend for a LT but one can hope since we need to figure out LT before Rodgers gets killed or kills himself. Also need to solidify Center.

Just hoping for maybe 2 signings in FA maybe an aging veteran on D line and Safety.

I know it won't happen because of money and the fact he wants to stay with his team but Dannell Ellerbe would be what I think we need.  Yes he will resign with the Ravens but man would I like for TT to make a run at him.

Would Teddy pick up someone in free agency, yes. However he usually waits a while to do it, by the time May rolls around the vets on the market get a little antsy and they're more likely to sign a decent offer as opposed to using said offer as leverage against other teams. Only fools dive into FA this early in the game unless of course you see someone like a Julius Peppers or a Mario Williams.

Don't know why S is on people's list.  Burnett is young and has improved and the young guns they have did a great job filling in for Woodson when he was out without penalties.  ILB and O line is the biggest needs.  Move the guy that played right tackle to Center.  He's scrappy enough that he might do very well.  I'm fine with the TE's we have once Finley is gone.  Quarless is still a guy that can maybe provide some speed if he's healthy.

burnett is not a physical player and doesn't scare like even the kid for the vikes....harrison.  his cover skills are ok, but we need a safety to play along side him.  we have no one right now unless mcmillian comes through.  time to get a good player if we can find one.  we also have little depth at safety unless you think jennings, maybe richardson.....these guys are reaches

McMillan can tackle and could be the guy.  Could also move Williams to FS and let House and the other guys play DB and nickle.

Woodson,

People point to the lose of Jenkins that really changed the Packers defense a few years back, but i still think it's the lose of Nick Collins.  Burnett is just average and Mcmillan and Jennings are very young and stated above, we could use some depth at the position and i would personally like veteran depth.

I would still like to see Woodson moved to FS. The only issue I have is the collarbone. I believe he can play another two to three years, just not at CB.

Burnett may seem average, but so does the rest of the secondary when you lose all of your best pass rushers to injury for several weeks or the season. Losing Bishop was a huge blow as was Perry. Had we not lost those two guys our season would have been completely different as well as the play of the secondary. I'm not sure what to think of Worthy, except that he seems a bit unworthy. I really hope he can show up next season and not be another J Harrell.

We need to address both lines before anything. Protecting Rodgers has to be a priority. QB's like him don't fall into your team's lap every year. When you have only one true pass rusher, and he's injured 4-5 weeks every season for a hammy, even having Revis on your team isn't going to help.

Sure wish we could figure out a way to keep our guys healthy.

I just looked at the top 100 free agents and am not overly impressed.  There are one or 2 guys that could help but not really anyone that stands out from what we already have.  I am not trying to be a rah-rah guy for TT, but I am trying to be realistic.  There are some guys we may be able to pick up on the cheap as role players, but that's about it in my opinion.

I agree that not much available if your talking big name FA that the Packers can afford. I'm thinking more along the lines of some veterans that will get cut because so many teams are over the cap.  I think the Packers could find a veteran DT or Safety, you can add almost 100 players that will get cut in the next few months.

I agree that we could maybe find one of those veteran guys on the cheap that might want to play for a contender with the possibility of winning a Super Bowl.  I'm talking about the big name guys.  Krueger would be nice, but he is going to want more money than we can give.  Maybe someone like Canty might fit on our defense.

I don't think Green Bay needs a big name free agent. We could use a few small name free agents that could really benefit the Packers. Like these guys:

1. Ricky Jean Francois: He is a back-up DE/DT for the 49ers. He has experience in the 3-4 and he could be relatively cheap.

2. Victor Butler: Again, here is another player with experience in the 3-4. We all agree that our entire linebacker core needs a makeover (minus Clay Matthews) so why not give this guy a shot?

3. George Wilson: Wilson is an awesome safety. If anybody watched a Buffalo Bills game they know what I mean. He will be pretty cheap when compared to other FA safeties like Ed Reed, LaRon Landry, Jairus Byrd, William Moore, Dashon Goldson. George Wilson and Morgan Burnett would be a great Safety Tandem.

4. Dustin Keller: Green Bay should cut Tight End Jermichael Finley and sign Dustin Keller in his place. Finley costs too much money, and he can easily be replaced by a better handed TE like Dustin Keller.

George Wilson and Dustin Keller would be nice pick ups.   I think Finley will soon be gone anyways.  Some other FAs that would fit in the Packers lineup would be Shonn Green, Glenn Dorsey, Rey Maualuga, and maybe a Josh Cribbs or Brian Hartline to lock up the 4th WR position.  I don't know what these players were making but most of them have only been in the league 3 to 4 years.  Wilson, Green, Dorsey, and Maualuga are all physical, something the Packers are in need of.

With the proper cuts the Packers could end up right around 50 million under the cap.

If I were TT, I would use the money I saved on Woodson, and throw it all at Mike Wallace. Could you imagine our offense with him? If we don't sign him, he could very well end up in our division, I mean could you imagine Megatron, and Mike Wallace on the same team?
