If Hubert isnt good enough to play more than a minute against Duke then why does Roy think he should start against other teams I wonder? Hairston proved why he should start tonight, and start at the 4 at that. That small lineup is our best option.
UNC- 13-23 Ft
Duke- 17-20 FT
We lose by 5...there is the ball game
While I think this is a morale victory for this team to rebound as well as they did from that blowout at Miami in a much tougher environment, it will all be for nothing if the boys don't carry this effort and momentum forward over the rest of the ACC schedule.
Great defense in the 1st half by UNC, but you knew eventually Duke would hit shots, even if contested. They got some loose balls to bounce their way too in the 2nd half. I got nervous towards the end of the 1st half, because Duke wasn't playing well and were staying within close range over. Free throws were a killer tonight too.
Legitimate question though. How much did the refs get paid to not call 5 fouls on Plumlee tonight? That came was called very close the entire first half, and then as soon as Plumlee got his third, they swallowed their whistles until the final 5 minutes. I'm convinced that the only reason Plumlee got to 4 is because he damn near killed Bullock's knee, and the refs knew they would get fired if that wasn't called. Between throwing his shoulder into McAdoo consistently or running square into the chest of Hairston who clearly had position outside of the circle, that was ridiculous. Once Plumlee realized he could start man handling people and didn't have to play so conservative with 4 fouls, it changed the game as he got back to the post for his hook shots.
Alright - rant over. Hopefully the boys can carry this game forward, and hopefully Roy recognizes how well tonight's line-up worked. It would be tough to play it against a team like NC State with Leslie and Howell down low, but it's clearly showed more promise and spark than the usual.
Congrats to Duke - hope to get revenge when you come to Chapel Hill.
