2013 Texas Schedule

lol, Stampede just shut the freakin door on this stupid thread.

WT looks like the boy who just found out there is no Santa Clause. He has that look that is a combination of confusion and tears.

The strange thing about is that Auburn is a pretty cool little school. Very nice campus. Very good Academics. And they have a football program with some tradition. If I where a Tiger I would be proud. I would not care that nobody outside of the state gave a dam about my school. I wouldn't care that more than half the people in my state did not give a dam about my school. Which leads me to believe that WT has barely whiffed the campus and the only education he has recieved from Auburn consisted of reading the inscription on a statue/plaque and a game program.

Alabama plays the 4 worst SEC teams, a FCS team, an ex-FCS team playing as a FBS team for the first season, their best OOC game is 7-6 Virginia Tech, 9 AQs and only 5 bowl teams from 2012. Auburn plays 2 of the 4 worst(Auburn being the 2nd worst) SEC teams, a FCS team, their best OOC game is with a non-AQ team(Arkansas State), their best OOC AQ game is 3-9 Washington State, 9 AQs and only 7 bowl teams from 2012. <sarcasm begins> Stellar! <sarcasm ends>

They will still play in the biggest most hyped game in Texas this year and Texas A&M will have the sidelines loaded with recruits that are for an experience that Texas has no hope of duplicating this year.  Honestly that should piss you off.

2013 Texas Schedule

February 14, 2013 9:32 am

People don't tune in to see who Texas is playing.
People dont buy tickets to see who Texas is playing.

They tune into to see Texas.   They buy tickets to see Texas.

Texas is a national brand.
Love them or Hate them.  Texas moves the dial more than any other program.
They have legions of fans and diehard haters (both who watch the Horns play).
Most of the other teams in the Big 12 rely on Texas for their biggest game of the season.
It is not the other way around.
The same can be said for Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, or whatever super-elite name brand.

Name brands dont need to sell the opponents to be a big game.  They are a big game by virtue of their own name.

There is some truth to that, but there is more to it.  Texas fans will tune in and watch but thats about it.  How many times do you think they will tune in to watch Texas play Wyoming, New Mexico, Rice etc.?  OU is Texas' biggest game of the year because there are two schools with a national brand name and it usually has NC implications for at least one team.  That game generates the most interest. Texas needs quality opponents to generate intrest at a national level and excitement among its own fans.  I know the OOC schedule gets better in the future, but that isn't going to help this year.

Look at Notre Dame.  In the 90s they had their own TV contract because they were a top team and could draw a national audience.  Their games had importance in the NC race. They faded from being a NC contender and so did the ratings around the nation.  Their fans still tuned in but the casual fan that was looking for a big game wasn't.

The SEC has atleast one game every week that effects the NC hunt.  That game gets the national showcase game.  A&M bennifited greatly from that this past year and took advantage of it against Bama.   Before last year A&M had next to nothing for a national audience.  After several showcase games and the emergence of Johnny Manziel, A&M has some interest from outside the Great State of Texas.

You can keep your head burried in the sand and say "we are Texas, everyone wants to watch us" but the fact of the matter is it takes two to tango and to teams to make a game that generates buzz and excitement.  This year Texas only has 1 game that does that.  That's OU.  Hopefully the game isn't over at half time and the stadium is more than half full by the 3rd quarter.

Is this how pathetic Auburn has become???
Auburn has to pimp their opponents to sell tickets???
I guess they have a very weak brand identity.
Deflection?  I think so Auburn is a proven commodity when it comes to rating and even though we had the worst season in 50 years we still pulled in a top 10 recruiting class and that says a lot.  After all we held the record for years (and believe we still do) of having played on ESPN more than any other football team and that doesn't happen unless you are a brand.

Texas is a national brand. - Really because I don't see their gear everywhere I go and their TV rating don't prove this as true either.
Love them or Hate them.  Texas moves the dial more than any other program.  - Ego issues?
Most of the other teams in the Big 12 rely on Texas for their biggest game of the season. - Lame excuse for having a crappy schedule.

It is kind of pathetic if that is what AUburn has sunk too.....  Are things that horrible at little brother U?
Check the record books Auburn has been in the national picture as much or more than Texas over the last 30 years:

3 undefeated seasons:  1993, 2004 and 2010
1 National Championship (got screwed out of the 2nd in 2004 but you know that don't you)

Oh and we have done this when LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Florida have all been playing some of their best football in decades.  Texas has benefitted from a weak Big 12 for years and now some of the teams are having marginal success what happens?  Failure.

I've been to Austin 3 times (brother went to Law school there and I have seen them play Auburn, Baylor and Rice) nice place but there was no comparision of the energy in the stadium when you were playing Auburn vs Baylor or Rice.  That is my point you can have the nicest home in the neighborhood but still throw a lame party.

Sigh, When in doubt, go to the mythical "team SEC".

This was a complete fail of a thread trying to bash Texas' schedule.

After being thoroughly dismissed (by Texas hating Nebraska fans no less), it reverts back to the schedule of "team SEC"

I didn't realize Texas needed to compare the value of its individual school schedule with the 14 teams of the SEC combined schedule.

SEC fan "Texas has a crappy schedule because it is not as good as the entire SEC's schedule of 168 games????????"

Ok, whatever.....

This further makes the message board SEC lunatic homer fans look like idiots.

Real World fans of SEC teams dont have some mythical team SEC they cheer for its week.

Real World fans of SEC teams dont somehow delude themselves that all the games played each week are part of their schedule.

Hey Stampede,

The reason I used the SEC schedule was due to the fact that A&M was involved in a couple of those games this year and received a national audience from it.  They made the most of it by beating Bama in front of prime time national audence.  How many prime time games did Texas have last year?  The only one I can think of was TCU on Thanksgiving.  I don't think that game had anywhere near the audence that A&M/Bama had.  Inspite of the fact that Texas was playing. You don't have to compare t.u.s schedule to the entire SEC schedule. SEC teams get their big games from the conference schedule.  Texas does not, other that OU.

I don't cheer for team SEC or the SEC team of the year.  Just like I never cheered for Texas or OU.   I was just pointing out that the SEC generates interest every week and that effects both teams in hte game.  More interest than the great Texas Longhorns generate by playing Baylor, or Iowa St.

Text Book Denial!  Please ask yourself the following questions:

1.  Does it piss me off that the biggest game that will be played in the state of Texas will be held at College Station, will probably be one of the highest rated games of the season and does not include one single Big 12 team?  My guess is yes and if it doesn't it should.

2.  What home game do I want my best recruits to attend this year?  Is it Ole Miss, Texas Tech or Okie State?  Seriously those are your choices.

Ok I have never been but I doubt Kyle Field is a Hell-hole that is just the Texas in you coming out.  However lets say it is if you throw the biggest party of the year does anyone care where it was held?  Just think about it and you will see that I am correct Texas has a "Big Game" issue in scheduling that needs to be addressed.

So did ND last yr. I am not really sure of the pt. Ever conference that has a top 5 team has a game that effects the NC. Wake Forest v ND had potential to effec the NC. Does that make it a great game? Baylor v KSU or Stanford v Oregon might have been the most important NC effecting regular season games of the yr. In fact you could argue that A&M v Bama had no effect on the NC picture.
