suggestion...so don't crucify me

There's been a lot of talk about Rolle's big contract. I just read where the Packers are cutting Charles Woodson and he wants to play for a contender. They moved him to safety last year...so depending on what kind of cash he's gonna ask for, what would you think about bringing him in with a 1 or 2 year deal? He was a pretty damn good corner in his day so you know his coverage skills would be above average for a safety. We can then see what Brown, Hill, and TT (if he's moved to safety) can do given a season to prove themselves. I think I would be comfortable headed into the season with Brown, Phillips, Woodson, Hill, and TT.  What do you guys think?

I don't think you'll be crucified for your idea.  LOL.  But, be prepared for a lot of disagreement from other posters.  Some of them think Antrell Rolle is Mel Blount and the Giants defense can't live without him.  I think they should let Rolle walk if he won't restructure his contract.  But, Charles Woodson is old.  Furthermore, the 49ers carved him up in the playoffs.  He got beat a lot.  I just don't know if he's the same CB.  I'd rather the Giants invest in a long term solution than a temporary band-aid that may not even work out. 
I don't agree with moving Terell Thomas to safety.  He's a CB.  Keep him there.  It's hard enough to recover from yet ANOTHER ACL injury without having to worry about leanring a new position.

i dont think anyone was suggesting that.. most people were concerned about just letting him go with no viable replacements on the roster.. Will Hill has barely sniffed the field so you dont know what you have with him, sash is a nobody and t.thomas has a better chance blowing out his acl getting up from his couch than making a smooth transition to safety


with that said i think woodson is worth a look.. a veteran leader who still might have something left in the tank

I agree Charlie about Woodson playing CB...He's a lil long in the tooth (but still better than most CB's in the NFL) to play CB but I think since he made the move to safety, he'd be pretty decent in that position. Here's a question to debate...Do you think that Woodson could replace Rolle and do just as well?

you might be able to get similar production if he can stay on the field.. he wasnt healthy last year in his first year moving to safety.. nobody even knows if he can play the position. rolle hasnt missed a game as a giant and has missed just 1 game since his 2nd year in the league.. and that was because arizona had clinched a playoff spot and couldnt do any better seeding wise

nah, not a good fit.  

The Giants can certainly use Woodson's availability as bargaining leverage over Rolle to re-do his contract or else threaten to replace him with Woodson. They could probably sign Woodson for about 2-3 mil a year in a  2 year deal. No one expects Woodson to be anything but a Safety, at this point.  Honestly, would our defense be any worse off?

I'm with Torch,  at least try and use Woodson as leverage to get Rolle to redo his contract... if not, we were 31st right? We can only drop 1 spot "without" Rolle... but the chances are if we lose him and replace say Blackburn (who I love) with an actual solid MLB, to go along with Woodson for cheap, our defense can get better, because Rolle, even if he was on the level of a top 5 safety isn't changing the face of our defense on this defense. We rely on the front four and we would get carved up the middle (if Rolle was that good of a safety) but if we sure up at least the MLB, and we can move Kiwi back to DE, that could help out any of our DB's and make them look better. With Spags Webster looked like he was one of the best DB's in the league, with Fewell he looks like one of the worst... while most of us agree we don't have the players to fit Fewells scheme, we shouldn't be paying Rolle (9 million) to not fit, and Webster (7 million) to not fit, and I love Webster, but he needs to shed some of that salary too...

I'd much rather have rolle and Woodson on the roster.. Nobody knows if Woodson can even play safety.. I think he might be a good fit as the 3rd safety in the Deon Grant role...playing the TE and playing down in the box

Stevie Brown needs to start, and Will Hill can be the 3rd safety. Which means Phillips or Rolle have to go. Rolle is expensive, but Phillips can't be counted on with his injury history. The best thing would be to get Rolle to re-structure and get rid of Phillips.
