Next years UK team

College Gameday just said that if, and that's a big if, Noel and some of this years team comes back next year with the recruiting class coming in, that everyone should just go down to Dallas and hand UK the trophy. "Here Cal, you got another one". A good point, but what do you think?

In my opinion, that team would be absolutely SICK! But, to say just hand them the trophy without playing the games is absurd. As a UK fan, I know that all the talent in the world does not = championship! Anything can happen. But, man I would love to see that team play for 4months!

I mentioned the other day that I thought that it would do Noel some good to stay in college one more year to develop some sort of a shot.  IMO, he is not even close to being ready for the NBA and am quite surprised that ESPN believes he would have been drafted this year NR 1.  He got his lunch handed to him by Young last week and Young is probably not even a 1st round pick.  That said, with Cauley-Stein, Wiltjer, Poythrus, Goodwin and the incomming group; Kentucky will be awsome; with or without Noel.

This is a ridiculous comment. First of all you have no idea how all the new players coming in will gel. We all thought Kentucky would be really good this year with all their freshman but that is not the case. You'd expect them to be really good, but you have no idea what other teams will have and how UK will react to the new players, plus the unknown of injury, etc.

Good point about Noel getting his lunch handed to him by Young. I agree 100%. But I say Goodwinand Poythress will ultimately be gone next year, even though they are nowhere ready.

But if we can land either Gordon or Wiggins, it'll be real fun to watch! I really want Gordon, Blake Griffin made over.

I think UK loses four to the draft the way it looks right now.  Nobody outside Noel has any business declaring for the draft in my opinion, and that is only because he is projected as a top 5 pick.  He can't really improve his stock at all by coming back.  I think the number 1 next year is a lock to be either Wiggins or Parker so if anything he probably slips down a little.

I should add that I think the other 3 leave only because of being projected into the first round of what will not be a real strong draft class.

Is this the official UK fan "Throw in the Towel" thread for 2012-2013?

I agree totally. One, nobody knows how much team chemistry the players will have. Secondly, nobody knows if the incoming players will live up to the hype. Let's face it, most players don't. As I posted on another thread, last year's team was an exception rather than the norm. That team had great chemistry and the recruits lived up to the hype. I expect most Kentucky teams will fall somewhere in the middle.

I'm not coming on here to bash UK but I wouldn't say this about ANY team considering what happened to the cats this year. This also is just a slap in the face to all of the teams, UofL included, that will have very good teams next year as well with experience and depth to go along with what is coming in.

UK might be assembling the highest ranked class in history but I don't put all of my stock in the kids coming in from highschool until they play in college. It's not the same. Check Goodwin and Poythress for example. Both were off the charts good in highschool and both are flops IMO. Goodwin is a cancer to this team. He's all about himself and in the words of Coach Cal "Uncoachable". Poythress just isn't what he was billed to be. He might have been hanging high numbers in highschool but against the strength and speed of college players he's average at best. He has no will to win...thus far. Now they both might prove me wrong but after playing this many college games, neither has impressed me. When UK has some veteran leadership to go along with these rookies I would believe it.

I look forward to the rivalry rematch next season but I'm not looking ahead to next season. We're still in the prime of the one that matters...this season.

Noel isn't coming back.

We'll see how the freshmen gel. The Harrisons are a bit overrated imo (Andrew is getting Rose/Wall type hype even though he's not NEARLY the athlete those two were), and while Lee will be a great shot blocker, he's not on the level of Davis and Noel. Johnson will have to adjust to the speed/athleticism of a lot of college bigs (he's slow, has a 2-inch vertical, and isn't nearly as skilled as a guy like Sullinger who was a similar athlete).

I honestly think that the most immediate-impact of Kentucky's incoming freshman is Young. He's longer and a better athlete than Lamb, but has a similar skill set. The Harrison twins will be good, but not as good as a lot of people are saying. If Noel, Cauley-Stein, Goodwin, and Poythress leave as expected, and UK adds neither Wiggins nor Randle, then UK should be a Top 5/Top 10 type team, but not a crazily dominant team like a lot of UK fans like to think. Adding either Wiggins or Randle would change that, though. However, it seems like Randle will go with Texas or Kansas while Wiggins will go with FSU.

Either way we will have enough to take the sec back and give good payback to all the losses we took this year, and besides that how do you know how good the Harrison twins will be???

Highly debatable.

I don't know for a fact how good they'll be; it's just an educated guess. I'm not the only one who has questioned their athleticism and attitude. We'll see. It wouldn't be the first time that a massively hyped five star didn't completely work out.
