"Watching KU tonight.....it's ridiculous that they lost 3 in a row."
Tell me about it. KU has done something no one else in the BIG 12 has done, lost to TCU. Go figure. A great game tonight though. Looks like the JayHawks are back on track.
This game was over very early. Even with only a 13 pt lead at half time ("only" a 13 pt lead! haha) I still never doubted the outcome of this game. We were forcing bad shots and TOs and running in the open court and if we were wondering if the win v KSU was a fluke tonite's performance answered that question.
I realize this is a young TX team but I've never understood all the hype about sophomore Kabongo. When you consider previous Longhorn guards that were legit stars like DJ Augustin, TJ Ford, Daniel Gibson, Royal Ivey, AJ Abrams, and Corey Joseph, Kabongo has a long ways to go. His freshman stats weren't awful but its hard to figure out how they warrant the hype he's rec'd (the hype even before the suspension).
I think Kabongo and the fandom saw the rate at which UT has "churned out" elite guard prospect (whether you agree with the skill set of some of the latter combo guards, they still were elite to get drafted 1st Rd.) and had this run for several years on the talent,
It seemed destined for him to be the next in line (sorta like every PG believes he's a lottery choice in Calipari's teams from Memphis forward)...I remember they were talking prematurely about him going pro after his freshman year out here in Austin...ludicrous!
Texas is still loaded with talent. Kabongo will be a good player. They have some nice players, but they are lacking an explosive offensive player like they are accustomed to having.
I do have a feeling that since the arrival of Kabongo they might finish rather strong and get some wins. I think they are capable of finishing above .500 overall yet.
Good win, but at times we still showed signs in the first half of not scoring. We had some good looks, but just nothing was falling. Better overall than our 3 game skid, but We have to be much better to outscore Okie St.
Myck Kabongo was ranked higher than Daniel Gibson and DJ Augustin and came out of the same school as Avery Bradely and Cory Joseph so there was legitimate hype around Kabongo coming into Texas and deservedly so. Not everybody lives up to the hype they have coming into school for whatever reason and Kabongo is someone who isn't quite as good as his rating would suggest. Elijah Johnson is another player like that for KU. EJ came in as 5 star PG and didn't see many minutes as a freshman and didn't start until as a junior and is unlikely to get drafted by an NBA team in June. That's a disappointment for a guy who many thought coming into KU would be a major factor for KU from day 1 and be around for 2 years after being the first guy off the bench as a freshman and slide into the starting line up with Tyshawn and Josh Selby as a sophomore and be gone after that. It didn't happen for EJ who really didn't become a factor until his junior year and has just never lived up to his hype and potential for whatever reasons.
