comments about LaMarr Woodley

One teammate blamed Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley's 2012 injuries and poor performance on Woodley being out of shape.

"He was awful," the teammate said. "He tells us he works out, but we didn't see it. He wasn't in shape. That has to be a reason why he was always hurt." Woodley was also injured often in 2011. Beat writer Ron Cook opined that Woodley looked "heavy and slow" last season, resulting in a career-worst year. Woodley is plenty capable of turning things around, but it's fair to wonder if he packed it in a bit after getting paid in 2011. That August, the Steelers signed Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed. Source: [Ed Bouchette on Twitter ]

Sorry but I agree, while he may do good things with his money charities and things of that nature, and may be a good all around guy, I feel he has the "I gots mine" attitude when it comes to performing after you get yours, just because you get yours doesn't mean it's time to slack off, if you want to be mentioned with the best in the league you have to prepare like it, you didn't see the Michael strahan's, Greg Lloyds, jerry rice's, Emmit Smith's of this league mail it in after they got paid, hell I'll use his teammate from the same draft, Timmons, actually improved after he got paid!!

The only thing I don't really care about and it seams that neither does Ryan Clark, is that this publicly got leaked, instead of doing it in house!!

Don't forget he also denied Tom Shaw's offer to work out with him in the off-season.

I don't like the fact his team mate has gone public but this could be a good thing in the long run. Woodley needs something to get him going again and being called out on something like this is bound to give him a chip on the shoulder. Look for a big 2013 for Woodley.

I'd have to know who the teammate was before I took it too seriously. If it was a veteran player that's one thing but it could have been some obscure player that spent two weeks in Pittsburgh and is never coming back. All Cook said was he was a teammate. That could have been anyone or it could have been made up knowing Cook. These writers will do anything to get their names mentioned.

Yeah thats a good point. I find it hard to believe a veteran would even question Woodleys work ethic nevermind blab to the media about it. It's got to be a young guy but I'm sure we will find out who it is in the next few days.

Really?  Didn't Ward and Harrison comment on Ben to the media?

That said, it's really a lot of nothing.  As said, it could have been anyone.  It could have been Dennis Dixon for all anyone knows.  The positive to come out of it all is that Woodley may now have a point to prove.  Players are prideful.  He won't come into came out of shape again

Ha yeah I think you might be right, I cant remember exactly what they said but It probably was deserved with the poor decisions Ben used to make.

Yeah thats exactly what I thought, Kinda like how Flacco reacted to Woodleys comments, slightly different to this situation but he had a point to prove and it got the best out of him. Lets hope he works hard this off season and is ready to go week 1

You keep hoping that.  If you don't mind, I'm going to hope he comes into week 1 at a weight that would make JaMarcus Russell say "Damn, he's fat" Laughing

For the 3rd time on this page.......It was Ryan Clark! He also said the team was losing the older players and needed some younger players to step up and take the leadership role. Which none seem to be doing and less players on the team have SB rings. He said their a younger team now and some younger players are going to have to step up and take the torch that's handed down....If they want a ring?

So no! It wasn't a guy that was cut or on the team for a few weeks. And it wasn't Dickerson. It was one of the vets that has been in a few Super Bowls. And we all know Clark isn't afraid to speak his mind.....about anything! And personally, I have to agree with him. Woodley was almost invisible last year compared to the years before. He's not earning his paycheck and that's not good....

Cooke said it was more than one player that said that.  Why do you think it was Ryan Clark?  He was on the NFL channel saying whoever  has a problem with Woodley should keep it in house and not tell the media.

He's got gradually fatter as his wallet has gotten fatter. And what I said from the beginning of his career has been proven true for the most part: Most of those big sack seasons he had, had a lot to do with a healthy James Harrison on the other side and QBs consciously or sub-consciously leaning more towards LaMarr's side.

With a healthy in his prime James Harrison, I dont care who you put on the other side, he's probably good for 10 sacks.

Clark Haggans only got 4 sacks in 2007 on the other side of James Harrison.
Woodley is good, he'll get his sacks regardles of who's on the other side.  He just has to make sure to come ready to play.

Clark Haggans is still somehow in the NFL.

How about thinking it like this, maybe the player doing this used this as a ploy to motivate Woodley and that now that he is on everyone's cross hairs he will work to get back in good graces and will know he needs to work hard?

Woodley can take it one of two ways, get annoyed and sulk that he got called out or use it as a fire to set the world on fire again, heck could he have been in on in from the beginning to manufacture some motivation?

Ward questioned Bens toughness when Ben sat out for a concussion but Ward did it publicly and it was noyhing that he wouldnt have said to Ben's face.   Least It hink thats is what is being refered to about Ward speaking out on Ben.  <span style="color: #333333; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11.818181991577148px;">

Why do you think it was Ryan Clark?

I thought i heard them say it on the FAN on the way home from work. I didn't catch the the full conversation , so maybe I'm mistaken. But I could of sworn Clark's name came about who was the one that said something. They were talking about it, but maybe I mistook something because I didn't catch the whole conversation from the beginning.
