NYJ went into the toilet because sanchez was throwing to you and me out there. once holmes went down, they had NOBODY at WR. keller was in & out of the line-up & showne greene is the softest back in football. their OL wasn't the best in the biz either. i actually thought their secondary stepped-up with revis out of the line-up. cromartie played pretty damn well in his place. problem now for them is landry wants bazooka bucks. this team has become what its fostered: high-price babies. we used to be it and i don't wanna go back. i don't argue revis's skill-set. but if he was b i t c h i n g on a team that went to the AFC CG two years in a row with a HC who thought he walked on water, how long do you think it would be before the wheels on him came off out in OAK?
devil - it is a compelling thought of revis down in TB. they are getting close and with NO hiring rob ryan, that could set their defense back from 32nd in the league to 44th. brees aint no spring chicken and if they don't get back to what got them a championship (running the ball in addition to throwing), brees could have another down year. ATL is a team that COULD begin to fracture. 1 playoff win would not get me all that excited with the amount they have riding on this existing group. TB is an exciting team to watch IF Josh Freeman can take that next step. im not sure he does. the division still goes IMO 1. ATL 2. NO 3. TB 4. CAR but there is not much seperating the top 3. CAR has work to do on defense if they wanna compete late in the year but a revis in TB could translate into an addtional W or 2 and that could be all they need IF freeman builds on last year and the other pieces progress and not regress.
Thats what makes football so interesting and a year round sport. You just dont know what can happen but its fun to speculate with moves. I look at the Super Bowl champs and say you very well could see them transition back to a 43. Cody has been as bad as McClain has been here. However if you go back to the 43 and have him and Ngata side by side up the middle, thats commanding a lot of offensive lineman to slow that down. You have a legendary linebacker that just hung them up and you dont just replace that guy but you have a guy that very well may not be back in Chicago in Brian Urlacher and he has only played in a 43. Upshaw could put his hand in the dirt alongside Cody. And that could allow Baltimore to draft a DE to play opposite him this year. They have the secondary at least at corner and they have depth.
Winning draws a crowd and whatever happens with Reed, a guy like Woodson or even if Adrian Wilson is released, they could have another one year fill in until they can address the position long term.
That's probably the sorriest list of potential franchise tag players maybe ever? I wouldn't use it on anyone if possible...but that doesn't mean I don't want most of those guys back, either. It would raise their salary way too much for the production we've seen for most. Lchler maybe, but Jesus do we franchise a freakiing punter? I hope not.
I think RM may use the tag on someone we dont sign by the deadline. BC remember we can take the tag off after we get the long term deal ala-Tyvone Branch. I think Lechler is gone, I think the only person we may be putting a tag on could be Matt Saughnessy, because he's been in the league for a minute, and we all know he's poised to break-out, so he probably wants that big check that he's due for. Des Bryant will be kept happy with a medium sized deal, so would Wheeler, I believe we've got him. Myers may be falling under that boat too. Which leave Matt, he'll be tagged because we'll put him last to negotiate with, and we'll get a deal done with him in the pre-season to free up some space. But the priority is to shore up Wheeler, Bryant, and Matt to keep those pieces in place to have the defense to improve. BC those were the corner stones of the last few games. Wheeler was very bright all season, and he probably is worth more than what we're gonna give 'em.
matt shaugnessy is a raider nation favorite but lets not distort the facts. he had 31 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year. i simply cannot see a case where RM applies the franchise tag and guarantees him the average of the top 10 at his position in the league. hell, he's not even the best DE on the friggin team.
its time to start operating this place like a business and im hoping thats what RM starts. that briesel contract was beyond moronic so im hoping he's learned from his mistakes and shaken off his percieved bullet-proof vest. dumb contracts like that get people fired. lets try and avoid the self-inflicted wounds going forward. franchise shaug and its only gonna drive-up houston's asking price to an artificial level we don't need to go to. why set an unecessary floor on a better player with a guy who hasn't proved he deserves franchise type of $$$? IMO RM should try and get a long-term deal hammered-out with shaug NOW and avoid having to show him the door. we can get him on the cheap(er) and he gets stability. if RM plays his cards right, everybody can win here without causing us even more contract pain than we have been thru the past decade +.
I think the only person we may be putting a tag on could be Matt Saughnessy, because he's been in the league for a minute, and we all know he's poised to break-out
Nobody that's going to be a free agent for Oakland this year is worth top 5 money at their position. Matt Shaugnessy does not deserve to be paid like a top 5 DE
Sorry, he's definitely not worth 8 figures per year. I'd like to keep him at a reasonable price
Seriously, with Oakland being so bad recently you'd think we'd be able to get our guys signed for cheap...obviously they haven't produced to make us win! Shaugnessy, Dez and Wheeler should re up for another 3 years 12-15 a piece. They aren't worth much more. I'm really only concerned that Dez will leave. Shaugnessy had a off year but I think he's ready to go off as well. Comin off a serious should injury he should get that power back we saw in 2010 this next season, I want to keep him on.
