I thought I would post a little tidbit about Semi. He broke the Kansas Basketball High School Scoring Record on Tuesday with 26 points in an effortless win. A very good friend of mine, who is a Duke fan, went and watched him last night. I wanted to go but Tuesday's are the most busy night in our household with my daughters' own sports activities. Actually, finding a free night period is difficult but they are talented in their own right, so I don't mind!
Anyways, Semi plays for Ottawa HS and they are 4A in Kansas. Our state classifies from 1A-6A with 6A being the largest schools and usually the better squads overall. However, there are always good programs at each level that can compete with the big boys. That being said, Ottawa played a school called Eudora and they are not very good at all and sport a 6'4" kid as their tallest player. My friend, Dru, said that Semi played well and he said he barely broke a sweat in doing it. He said that he flashed his athleticism at times throughout the game but he really didn't have to play that hard. He said he could have scored 60 if he wanted too. Dru played basketball at a high level, Division II, and he knows his hoops. In fact, he still plays competitively here in Kansas. The team he plays for is laced with all former college ballers on it. They play against college teams in the summer months and I have watched him a few times. I only mention this to give insight on my buddies info. He knows the game very well and I trust his opinion as much as my own!
Dru said that Semi will be an awesome addition to the Duke Team! He said he shoots the 3 extremely well and is more of a slasher at 6'8". He said the kid can jump!! He mentioned that he would love to see him play in a game where he actually has to give it 100%. We are talking about going to the State Championships in Salina, KS , which is 2.5 hours straight West of KC to check him out. There is another team, Highland Park, that is undefeated in 4A and we think that he will have to apply himself in that game, if they meet. Either way, he will probably bring it because it will be the State Tournament and he will want to shine. I will definitely update what I see when we go the State Tournament Finals. It is impossible for Ottawa to not make it. There is no one who can stop him in Kansas, so they will be there.
Anyone else worried about the progress/status of MP3 come next year? I watch him when he goes in for garbage minutes and to spell the bigs for a minute or two and he looks lost out there running around. If he can take Mason's skill set this year and build on it for next year and the remaining years to come, he will be nasty out there. I just don't see it. He reminds me more of Miles than a Mason.
