Rockies Opening Day 25 Man Roster...

February 21, 2013 8:32 am

...as predicted by Bleacher Report. I can't say I agree. I think I would start Rutledge at SS and LeMahieu at 2nd and I'd give LF to Colvin over Gonzalez. That would move Tulowitzki and CarGo to the bench but I think it's good to have a strong bench.

2. RHP Jhoulys Chacin
3. RHP Juan Nicasio
4. LHP Drew Pomeranz

Relief: RHP Wilton Lopez

Rockies Opening Day 25 Man Roster...

Well, here is where I would make adjustments:

I would drop Josh Outman in favor of Miguel Batista, yeah that sounds crazy but I really don't like Outman and Batista pitches better when healthy, he won't hold in that spot for the whole season as I don't trust his health at all, but since we are talking about openning day I take Batista over Outman.  Daniel Rosenbaum might be a seperate option to go with over Josh Outman.

I would take Reid Brignac over LeMahieu since he is out of options and LeMahieu still has options.  Since they want Rutledge to stay at 2nd rather than filling in at SS we need someone who is completely comfortable at SS and Brignac would be the pick there, he can also back up Rutledge at 2nd.  LeMahieu is a better option at 3rd but we still have both Pacheco and Young on the bench (they say they are going to try Young out at 3rd and 1st as a super unitlity guy).

On the road we are carrying one less pitcher and one more bench player according to the current plan  I am going to assume Ottavino is going to be the pitcher most regularly bouncing to the minors and either Ryan Wheeler or DJ LeMahieu as the bouncing bench player for a little more depth and defense at 3rd.

Actually after thinking twice about it I say go with Rosenbaum over Batista.  He is young, has some talent, and we need to protect our pitching options.  If we don't carry him we lose him.  I am not sure he is ready to be carried at the big league level but would rather hold him rather than giving him back to the Nationals.

If that is the rotation order it is really stupid. The first three pitchers were injured most of last season and Francis was the only one who consistently got wins. Pomerantz had control problems amongst other issues. I don't really have faith yet in what DLR is going to do, if Chacin can be consistent as he had some problems in winter ball, and whether Nicasio can stay healthy.  Otherwise the roster looks pretty much the way I expected it to look considering they didn't really do anything in the offseason to change it.

67 I think you probably nailed, only change I would make is at the end of the rotation I would put in huge letters:  AND OTHERS
