I don't either but for all we know that is what this year without a definite #1 and over a dozen #1 seed contenders at this point of the season could mean.

Loses are all equal more or less except that Kansas lost to TCU while Florida lost to Arkansas.
That is the only positive thing that Florida has on Kansas.
i agree, in hindsight Florida doesn't really have a "bad" loss.  Arkansas has proven they are a different team at home this year... and even with that, they had to shoot 75% to beat Florida.

Kansas obviously has a better record against top 25 and 50, because they play them.  The weakness of the SEC this year has hurt Florida in that regard.

The only one note would be that Florida appeared to have the Georgetown game under control to start the season before they called it due to the slick floor.  That would have been a solid top 25 win that doesn't count assuming they didn't pull an Arizona and blow it (and there are no guarantees on that!)

Not sure where you got 75% from, Arkansas shot 49 percent in that game. It may have seemed like 75 with all the wide open shots they were given. Usually a high shooting percentage is a sign of bad defense. I don't care much about that loss, it happens. But call it what it is, a blowout in which Florida failed to show up.

Hdawg, saw that one....What SEC means is that Arky shot a remarkable 75% in the first half, putting them so far ahead that even when FL got it within 10, in the 2nd half, it was too late:-) Sucky play by the Gators, but Arky has certainly beaten almost everyone at home minus a buzzer beater to The Cuse.

I actually think the Big East will take the numbers...maybe not the VERY top ones, but more teams since they seem to always get the advantage on that due to the parity in their conference alone. They should enjoy it this last year since all the best teams will be picked off next year certainly...but a year like this means that anyone can take out almost anyone in the top 20 at least....hell, we have all been saying that the SEC is a "weak" conference this yr, but FL was beating GT before the game got cancelled due to court safety issues, GT only beat Tenn by a point at HOME, and GT lost to a Marquette team that FL beat by 35pts! So who really knows what will happen with the tournament pressure on...

Looking at KU's overall record, the TCU loss is not enough to keep them from a #1 seed if certain things fall in place over the final couple weeks.  If KU were to run the regular season table and make a deep Big 12 Tourney run (or win it), it'd be hard to keep them off the #1 line.

Michigan State lost again as I predicted they would and they will lose at least one more. So they will not be a #1 seed like I predicted they wouldn't be. The hype can stop about them.

I think if KU can win in Ames, they are a solid #1 seed at this time?!?  Gonzaga can't be a one seed with a SOS of 65!  Sorry, I draw a line there.  I know the old song and dance "Nobody wants to play us home and home"  I do understand that.  However, still a 65 in SOS is not a #1 seed.  It will probably drop more after the next two games.

RIght now i see Indiana a solid overall #1 seed.  Next would be either Duke or Miami.  I really don't think the ACC can get two #1 seeds?  Then a combination of Florida, KU, Michigan, and Gonzaga for the last two slots.  I am not sure if I want to  be a #1 seed this year looking at possible 8/9 games and teams that could be there waiting.

You could see teams like UNC, Creighton, NC STATE, Maryland, Wisconsin, UCLA, Wichita ST who knows, but those would be tough games for any #1 seed.

I know some would not agree with this,  but #2 seed for KU wouldn't hurt my feelings alot this year, even though I want to see us get a #1 seed.

Lets say right now our #1 seeds are:  Indiana, Duke, G-Town, and Kansas.  The #2 seeds would be:  Miami, Florida, Micigan and Gonzaga.  #3 seeds would be Michigan St, K-State, Arizona, and Louisville.  Basically any of the Top 12 seeds could be a #1 seed.  Its going to be a tough process this year.

Right now Georgetown is a 3 seed. Maybe a 2. However when all is said and done it could be what you said. I would think Gonzaga is a one despite the SOS, Arizona is a 2 and Kansas State likely is replaced on the 3 line with New Mexico.

GoKU, agree with Joe that as of now Georgetown would be a 3 seed, and I have IU overall 1, Duke/Miami winner, Gonzaga or Kansas, and Florida as 1 seeds. I believe that Kansas is playing well enough to win out AND win their conference tourney which gives them the 1, IMO over Gonzaga who shouldn't lose( but a possible 2 due to SOS). Florida should win out except they suffered yet another injury in the last win over Arkansas.... If they get upset at TN ( who is on a 10 game steak right now) or at Rupp against KY who just beat Mizzou at home, then I have them at a 2, as well....which you are correct in saying that may be a better place to end up than taking on a 1 seed right now;-)

Look, the only sure bet at this point is none. But, with that being said Gonzaga, baring a horrible loss, like losing to someone not named St. Mary's in the title game or BYU in the regular season is just about a shoo-in. IU at this point even with a loss to Michigan has just about clinched at least the 4th #1 seed, because at worst even with a loss and a loss in the conference tourney, they would only have 5 losses.

1 Indiana
2 Gonzaga
3 Duke/Miami winner
4 Michigan/Florida/Georgetown/Kansas, Duke/Miami loser/Arizona (yep, they beat Florida, and have some solid wins)/ Michigan State (yes they still can) State has 6 losses, but 3 are to IU twice and Miami. Some of these teams are going to lose for the 5th and possibly the 6th time, so don't count State out yet, and don't count them out to beat out say a 5 loss Florida team even if they lose the conference tourney to IU for the 3rd time. State's RPI is around #5.

Also, has anyone considered, granted it's a long shot, but New Mexico's RPI is in the top 5, I know that they're like 14th in the polls, so right now 3-4 seed, but if some of these teams like Florida, Miami, Arizona, even Duke or Kansas start losing to bad teams again, the New Mexico could climb into the top 10, like 7th in the polls, have an RPI of 3rd, and end up wit the 4th #1 seed?

Again it's a long shot, but I could see NM in the top 10 soon.

#1 seeds:

Indiana
Gonzaga
Duke/Miami winner
Kansas, Georgetown and Michigan in that current pecking order.

Kansas has a tough game tonight @ Iowa State. Win that and their remaining regular season schedule is very winnable.
Michigan still has games against Michigan State AND Indiana. Win both and they are easily a #1 seed. Split them and they're probably a #1 seed. Drop both and they aren't.
Georgetown still has Syracuse. Tough game but will give them a shot at earning a #1 seed.

It will play itself out in the end, especially with additional head-to-head results in the conference tourneys.

Two Coach,

I agree.  And you said currently ranked teams, becasue CO State, UNLV, SD State, Boise State, and Wyoming have all spent time in the rankings or at least the others receiving votes. So, I agree they haven't played the SOS as some of the other top 10, but the way things are, they could find themselves in the top 10 by this week even.

If it comes down to a tie between two teams for that last #1 spot, Kansas hurt themselves last night given they should have lost without the refs blowing the foul call which would have send Whithey to the bench with 3 mins left.  Everytime he went out of the game, the Cyclones extended their lead on Kansas which is why Self brought him back in so early.

Kansas got lucky... and regardless of what people say, if it comes down between two teams factors like that will be noted.

On the other hand, the seeding may not matter this year.

i looked a Florida in one bracket as a #3 seed... and they would have to play Creighton and New Mexico to get to the Sweet 16.  Meanwhile the #1 seed would have to play Lousiville in the round of 32.

Call me crazy... Creighton then New Mexico or Lousiville?  I choose New Mexico any day.  Lousivlle may struggle some game, but they have the talent to win it all when they play well.  New Mexico is a great team, but not as tested as teams like Louisville.

Bottom line: seeding may not matter or could hurt the upper seeds depending on how things play out.
