Resign Cullen Jenkins!

February 25, 2013 2:00 pm

The defensive makeover in Philadelphia has begun, as the team announced today they had released defensive tackle [Cullen Jenkins].

Jenkins was part of the “Dream Team” offseason of 2011, signing a five-year, $30 million contract. But like most things that offseason, he didn’t quite work out.

They’re looking to get younger and faster on defense, and a 32-year-old with a $1 million roster bonus due in March was a bad fit, even though he has experience in a 3-4 defense.

Yes sign him. I would much rather have him than Chris Canty. Jenkins can still play, and will add some much needed pass rush to the DL. I would say sign him to a 3 year $12M contract.

Resigning Cullen Jenkins is not a good idea.  His first year was good with Philadelphia but he didn't do much last year.  That is why the Packers let him go, they would rather let a player go a year too early than a year too late.  That theory holds with Jenkins so there is no way they will sign him now and they shouldn't.

Even though ever since he left the defensive line has declined? He had 4 sacks, 1 FF, and he has experience in Capers' system. He'd be cheap too.

Why take time away from guys like Mike Daniels,Mike Neal, and Jerel Worthy. These guys are showing a lot of promise while Jenkins is only getting slow and old.

I think bringing Jenkins back could be a very good move, even if he's not cheap (which he will be).  He's better in the 3-4 than the 4-3.  He made the Packers' entire defense better in 2009 and 2010.

Bring him back.

I wish that cbs would delete this thread for us.  The stupidity on here is giving Packer fans a bad name.  Just look ^

Interesting that you brought up Jolly as I was thinking the exact same thing.  Wondering if the FO is thinking along the same lines?

I didn't like admitting it at the time, but the loss of Cullen Jenkins was the single biggest factor in the Packers defensive fall from 2nd in 2010 to 19th in 2011.  He was also the single biggest factor in the defensive fall from 2nd in the league in sacks to 27th.  He made the whole DLine play better, the pass much more effective, and thereby the entire defense.

Just reported that the Packers had Chris Canty in for a visit. I wouldn't mind seeing Cullen back in green and gold.

I've read Worthy still not guarnateed for training camp, dealing with ACL. I can personally tell you 1 month removed from the same surgery not a fun injury.

I've been saying all off season i would like to see a vet on D line to get in the rotation with the younger guys, hopefully TT can find someone that has something left in the tank.

Jenkins sucks and this is why I cant stand homers.  Every player that gets cut Packer fans want.  Every player coming out of Wisconsin in the draft the Packers should draft.  Homers please quit listening to the fools on the radio and quit watching The Round Table.

I rarely watch TV and NEVER listen to the radio. I'm not apart of the 98% brainwashed Americans who get their opinions and "facts" from mainstream news, newspapers, radios, etc. The defense fell apart when Jenkins left and it wasn't just a coincidence. Obviously, three years later he's not going to be as productive, but he also won't cost too much and he brings talent and leadership to a defensive line that could certainly improve. Ted Thompson is a good GM because of his drafing ability, but GREAT GM's do whatever means necessary to build championship caliber football teams, and that includes free-agency. Think the Packers go to back-to-back SB's in the 90's without Reggie White, Santana Dotson, and Desmond Howard? No chance.

Reggie White, Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Desmond Howard, and Don Beebe. All free-agents that helped lead the team to multiple Super Bowl's. I mean, we don't even win the Super Bowl in 2010 without a player we signed via free-agency in Woodson. Ted Thompson never makes a run at anyone, which is a detriment to the team, fanbase, and also sways anyone worthy from coming to GB because they know who the GM is.

If hes cheap sure why not, but we could find someone in the draft to fill the same role since this year is deep with defensive lineman. Yes Jenkins was a good lineman for us but that was two years ago. He might have one more "productive" season in him but im still confused why green bay hasnt cut ties with Pickett yet either? Aging lineman dont improve a team they just eat up cap space

I would only sign him if he came cheap.....very cheap, with no guarantees of a spot on the 53 man roster.

The Packers tend to have a fair amount of injuries at the D-line every year.  There are no guarantees that Worthy will be ready by training camp.  Neal is always injured it seems.  I would not keep Jenkins at the expense of younger players with more potential, but he would be an insurance policy in case injuries thin the depth at D-line.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong!  The defense fell apart when Nick Collins got hurt.
