That's because the last 5 minutes is all that mattered.

And there goes any credibility you might have

Here ya go Master....

Watching that EJ drive the first thought that entered my head was, "You dumbarse!"....then when no call was made, I was like, "seriously?!  What a lucky SOB!"

There were bad calls both ways and at the end of the day that was a good game and both teams deserved to win....unfortunately you can't have two winners.

"You know what would be nice?  For even one KU fan to say, "Yes.  I know we caught a break.  But that's sports.  You win some, you lose some."

That would be much better than KU fans trying to pretend they deserved the win more than Iowa State."

Just shut up. That has been said in every way, shape and form here and on other threads. Get over yourself.

That's hilarious.

"But realize if Iowa State had caught that break, they would have won.
"

They DID catch that break at 15 minutes left in the 2nd half when Withey went to the bench after having a garbage charge called on him.

Inaccurate.  It's only been said once.  By the only KU fan with class.

"I don't know this to be fact, cuz I didn't even bother to seek it out, but if KU fans did make a big deal about the Marcus Smart flip, than shame on them. "

You know what else KU fans did not make one mention of as being "classless"? The completely unnecessary DUNK at the end of the game by the Oklahoma State player. I didn't see any fans of other teams streaming onto Okie State boards to call Phil Forte "classless" when he dunked the ball as time ran out and OSU was already up three.

I've stayed away from the boards for awhile to avoid all of the garbage going back and forth, but 3 days later, here we are. Twocoach and Phoggy, long time no chat. I've always appreciated the respect you have both shown for my Clones over the years.

Just my two cents. There were bad calls through the game. The goaltend that wasn't, Withey's bogus charge, Withey's missed moving screen(s) - don't pretend you didn't see them, at least two missed ISU travels.  I know every call matters and will conceded that all of the time.

My only objection is that a bad call with under 10 seconds IS worse simply because there is less time to recover. I know Withey sat awhile for a bogus call, but he rarely gets called for a moving screen and hardly ever for an over the back call.  I'd argue that the calls for/against him balanced out by the time that game was near its end. Most honest fans of our teams know what players on their teams get away with certain things.

I agree that it is VERY possible that even had that last charge been called properly, Niang misses a free throw (or two) and KU hits a desperation 3 to win or tie. I also concede that ISU has more than enough opportunities to put the game away and didn't.  The frustrating part is that many KU fans say that "If ISU played any defense, they would have won".  Well, a charge is playing defense. If the names on the uniforms were swapped, KU fans would have been livid.  We're all fans.

Given ISU's heart-breaking loses this year, I hope you can understand the passionate fans' reaction.  Having a very large of KU's fanbase troll our boards telling us to "stop whining" or "take the loss" really only fuels the animosity.  It was a great game, both games were.  McGee was crazy good for awhile. EJ had an insane game. I could care less about the dunk at the end. Didn't change a thing. Big deal. A little classless, but <shrug> oh well.

Beating KU is a big deal when it happens and it's a bigger deal when we fall just short like this year.  Take it as a compliment. Most of us are moving on to OU and beyond. Hopefully the disrepect going both ways will end. Just know that the loss will sting until next year.  It's a big deal. (just being honest)

BTW, apologies for the dumb-a$$es that threw stuff at the players, charged Self, tweeted slurs. That's not the ISU I know and love.

In this case, ISU had an entire 5 minute overtime to recover.

Coolerifyoudid, first off congrats on such a great ID... love the movie and that line was funny.  By the way did you see the beating Randall 'Pink' Floyd took at some bar or something and subsequent arrest?   Anyway to the point, I've stopped commenting specifically on the calls and non calls but I just wanted to say I appreciate your sensibility and logic and I understand your frustrations.   A few bad apples doesnt ruin the bunch and I still have a great deal of respect for the ISU fan base regardless of what a few knuckleheads said on twitter or did after the game.   KU has a few villages missing their idiots as well.   Also I welcome ISU as a true potential rival of Kansas going forward.

Withey's missed moving screen(s

coolerifyoudid,

Good to see you back writing.  I would submit that Withey isn't the only one who sets moving screens all the time.  It is the plague of college ball.  If kids really used it better, it would be the way to score at least 16 point a game because it seems it's just not called.  WIthey is just easy to see because he makes it really obvious.

Are there still people...ISU or otherwise, that still think that Elijah drive was a charge with Niang already falling backwards?

It should have been a charge, although it was one play in a long game with lots of calls going ISU's way. I don't like calling a game the wrong result on one play when it was going the other way for most of the game. The ref froze by not calling anything. He deserved to be reprimanded for not calling anything one way or another. If the game was only the last few minutes then ISU got hosed but it was 45 minutes. I hope ISU makes the tourney, they deserve it but one bad call doesn't make a game. As much as people don't believe it, a basketball game isn't only a game inside the last minute or two.

Hey, it's been a long time. Welcome back.

"My only objection is that a bad call with under 10 seconds IS worse simply because there is less time to recover. "

Didn't ISU have an entire 5 minute overtime to recover? If the no-call led to Kansas winning the game in regulation then maybe I agree, but the game went to OT and ISU had every opportunity to win that game.

"and hardly ever for an over the back call.  "

There is a difference between "over the back" and "over the top". Withey just reaches over the top of people without making contact with them. That's not a foul.

"Given ISU's heart-breaking loses this year, I hope you can understand the passionate fans' reaction.  Having a very large of KU's fanbase troll our boards telling us to "stop whining" or "take the loss" really only fuels the animosity."

I don't know what boards you are referring to. There doesn't seem to be any fans, ISU or KU, that use the ISU boards on this site. I don't use any other boards than these, too much of a hassle to keep track of them all.

"BTW, apologies for the dumb-a$$es that threw stuff at the players, charged Self, tweeted slurs. That's not the ISU I know and love."

Agreed. ISU has always been known as a passionate fanbase so these things were very surprising to all KU fans, regardless the circumstances surrounding the outcome of the game. Best of luck to ISU. I really do hope that you find your way into the ncaa tourney. A win against Okie State coming up would be a good start. Good luck, they are a tough team to handle.
